The triang model with its faults is mildly transformed with ultrascale wheels.. much smoother and quieter..unfortunately there is usually a long lead time for their excellent products. Earlier this week on a well known auction site was one with ultrascale wheels , plus a non running trix model.

Just taken delivery of my Zebedee package, very impressed with the moulding and overall delivery .. roof box and glazing unexpected.This is the second time I’ve used NIU .. great attention to detail with quality as a brand being most apparent.

Oh yes a bit of filing on the roof , but that aside the overall face is good. even if the cab side window frames are too square, also trying a new filler product, Holts cataloy knifing putty,seems quite good and less hassle than isopon body filler. I will power it with Hornby 25 gubbins as my retailer had one going cheap. The result will look reasonably like a class 24 , unlike the car crash of the 47 , I have one to start and will try extreme etching window frames to try to improve the face.

Something to keep the thread alive. Finally pressing on with a 24/1 .. needs a little tweaking and needless to say the mtk glazing stand’s little Chance being suitable.

Hi , back in May there was a thread on class 50’s , I have dug out an mtk example I picked from eBay sometime back ..and still need to power it, it had been fitted with headlights which do work. The photos compare it with the Lima offering, the mtk model has a better windscreen curve , the head code box is a bit too extended going back down the body but otherwise a good representation , and a vast improvement over the jedinco offering. Hope this is of interest!!

Hi , looks like a great restoration project, and certainly appears to have been dicked around with.The attached photos might help. This is a liliput model I think from 1971, the lion logo is a transfer, as opposed to the numbering which is moulded.

Great humour, the loco looks spot on , and let’s not forget in comparison how good the silver fox moulding is which has gallantly being flying the flag until now.

The glazing looks impressive and a far better fit than the alternative, thanks for the cd case tip , one to consider.

Starting to look good , what will you power it with ? I have an MTK one started some time ago when black beetles were available, and took an easy bogie route using early Lima mk2’s with smaller diameter wheels, which although not entirely accurate provide a nice ride height and easy to mount into the floor.

Credit to all concerned it looks a nicely detailed model and as some have noted in tune with pricing for a niche item which makes sense , I guess some of us will have to keep waiting for an 84,74 and HST prototype….and of course these could be also deemed to be niche. !!

David , thanks for the GE pictures from 1979…brings back memories of my first year year of commuting from Chelmsford when the trains were run regardless of the weather and for the benefit of the public… the icing on the cake with full credit to br staff in getting customers home , was travelling in a BG from Liverpool st. How times have changed.

Never ceases to amaze me the number of kits that surface/ survive, my 47 has never had the parts opened from the original wrapping and has the original water slide transfers.. however the AC electrics do seem more elusive and command high prices.

Hi Andyman , do I take it that your blue 47 has had some fettling on the cab front windows ? As they look a vast improvement v/s the standard casting…. Current looking at one I picked up yesterday in comparison.

No doubt the MTk v/s mainline Peak debate has many corners, the latter looks very toy like without flush glazing. The photo might be of interest by way of a comparison, the mainline model being one I picked up recently with an approach to glazing I have not seen before which works very well , and the MTK model uses the kit supplied glazing. Personally I like the mtk model with its weight, and although perhaps a little narrow v/s the mainline appearing a little tubby, the former was very good for its time and one of colins better offerings.

A good read, and worth noting the section on the class 92, and the level of detail accurascale have gone to in capturing the body/bogie springs.

Hi, the TPO was a regular on the late pm Liverpool st to Norwich service, I recall that you could post items whilst the coach was at Liverpool st, and I think it may have been post marked accordingly, and may have been the last br train where such a service was provided… i could be wrong of course, however do remember seeing the service on one occasion with 14 coaches, which was unusual for a Norwich service.

And perhaps a slight observation..with the costs of new models being on average getting close to £200.00 has that pushed up the prices second hand locos a bit ? With reduced supply fewer swap meets and people hanging to their collections?

In the late 1970’s/ early 80’s the departure board at Liverpool st for the evening Hook Continental… was always wooden slats! And often… may have only been on specific day’s ,was enterprising maintained to list Moscow as a final destination for connections .. I wonder if any other Uk station captured anywhere so distant ?

Picked this up recently as a bargain, for the twin motor and flush glazing, and as a weathering project. Noticed there is a switch underneath and what appears to be a speaker..see photos does anyone recognise the speaker type? runs well on dc with no sounds but yet to try on dcc.
