  1. Progress on my other 33 , covic has locked down the motor repair. And another one for curiosity on the go , a Q-kits 56 with shawplan widow frames , I need to file the resin down a little more, and, figure out the best way to locate and wire up the power units as surprisingly they both fire up and run well. And also tempted to get the Dremel out and attempt to convert it to a class 69.. perhaps someone will do a 3D print run of the exhaust. ,
  2. Another interesting publication from Key presents , covering rail testing from 1960 to date, picked up a copy today at WHS , so no doubt available at the usual outlets.
  3. Looking good so far is your cab Genesis ?
  4. Thank you everyone, the airfix 31 is very marmite, but given proper servicing especially the bearings they will run quietly, and With flush glazing makes an excellent model and in some aspects better than the Lima offerings which is let down by the massive coupling, one area where airfix were years ahead of the curve.
  5. Hi, this might help..opposite end view of 31215 with the additional lights.lots of good photos on the net depending on which colour scheme is the preference... and schoolboy error on my part in filing down the wrong head code end.
  6. Some Class 31 oddities using the Airfix model that as rtr will probably not see the light of day from Hornby. 31/0 , 31101 with no head code at one end, 31215 with the unique paint job, and 31294 I think was the only green one to carry a tops number. And an effort on the unique 56042...a bit of a Heinz... Hornby body, on a mainline chassis with Hornby class 58 bogie frames.. still need to sort out the steps, but it was an interesting exercise in adhesive’s and trimming.
  7. Hi Vivian , thank you for the note, do you have a rough sketch of how to run the wiring?
  8. Can the power bogies used on the ex Lima models such as on the 47/66/59 be wired up without the pcb board.
  9. Sits nicely on the bogies, something that Heljan do very well, and an area that lets Bachmann down with their 47.
  10. A nice balance of 47/37’s with prices to suit tighter budgets.
  11. If you can track one down Hornby pack x 9284 .. eth pack for a class 50 is not a bad option.
  12. Cracking kit, and I wonder if anyone has adopted one o gauge !!! , our family game each Xmas is always a Lego build... add a piece as you pass by.. always been cars until now.
  13. Looks definitely a kitmaster from the blue Pullman, I have one under a dc kits cravens parcels unit, runs well for a power unit of its age., better than a triang unit with its grated wheels.
  14. Many thanks for your help, a livery that seems rarely photoed or modelled.
  15. Did any Peaks in green ever carry a full yellow nose prior to the introduction of BR Blue ? I have seen it mentioned but never any photos to back it up.
  16. Mmmm the built peak looks nice , good to see the glazing fits !! , I picked one up off eBay recently ,the photos didn’t really do it justice needs a little additions but is nicely built with twin triang powered bogies. Shame with the kit that hattons just don’t take that little effort in the photos to show all the parts, as credit to most eBay sales ,people make a really good effort to show you what you are buying.
  17. The Dapol/ mainline... and then passed to Hornby 56’s are as dagworth says absolute flyers, and although pan cake power units , a long way ahead of anything Lima offered and very smooth runners with nicely profiled wheels, and the best rtf diesel that was available in the 1980,s, they will squeal if not oiled.
  18. I like the 24/25 , a great starting point for a rebuild, like a number that come up on eBay, and without too much effort can be turned around into a decent looking loco... that’s why I enjoy the challenge of mtk locos , lends vastly to enhancing my skills.... and of course look forward to seeing your finished product!
  19. Excellent call ..... I am surprised that none have popped up on any of the forums.. unless it’s a struggle to obtain the nanking blue , I think fox do the transfers...and the world is awash with early Hornby hst power cars , although the bogies are poor to say the least.... I’ll join you running for cover.
  20. The yard at Chelmsford still sees aggregate activity with class 66 & 59’s, as to the centre road I recall as a child in the 1960’s seeing parcels stock parked there, but would also be interested to know if it was ever used as through road , and when it was formally taken out was it just after the ammo train derailment in the late 60’s..... and yes I could never understand why it was not reinstated with growing traffic volumes.
  21. Great memories, the upsiding at Chelmsford was always the home for a 7.45 stater in the early 1980’s, and I think the loop at boreham was used On occasions. When Stratford started the silver roof lark it would be quite an occasion to see a normal visiting 47! And of course the icing was probably in the very late 80’s when a scotrail47 worked a freightliner forwards the capital. ’

    Top Gear?

Yep top gear is now entertainment for the masses, there probably is room for an school more foused offering. As for the grand tour, the programmes are far too long and too self indulgent a shame really as the trio are capable presenters in their own right.
  23. If it sells well enough why don’t they expand to coaching stock etc... could run for years
  24. For me part of the trick is the glazings as even with rtr models the face can look wrong without flush glazing, it always seems to go without saying that Mtk glazing can be consigned to the bin. I am getting to grips with the liquid products .... just takes loads of practice. I generally use thin Perspex sheet and file with nail files from boots, the sheet doesn’t burr unlike some products and can be a nice tight fit, .. just takes about 20 mins per window, and takes paint well such as on cab side windows. I have experimented also for the latter with cutting an insert and adding in thin plasiticard which can look even better.
