    In the 1970's and 80's we were promised that the working week would get shorter, leave entitlement would increase and the retirement age would lower, because of the huge efficiencies that Information Technology would bring. Oddly, that didn't quite work the way we expected.

    I think a projection of 5 feet only 9" deep could be constructed to self support. There would be steel beams inside perhaps 8" deep, clad with light weight panelling in polymer coated sheet steel, or composite materials. The length along the frontage of the building doesn't matter. Don't forget to consider how the rain will be directed away from the pedestrians. In a model, that detail will be very visible.

    Yup. That will work. You don't need anything resembling a bus for a short layout like this. Just keep the wiring tidy and sensibly laid out for reliability and maintenance. Get stuck in!

    Personally, if anything goes BANG I'd like it to be in a big, well earthed steel box than anything flammable like plastic or wood. Incidentally the ex burglar alarm box had a cable restraint and a fused-phase, earth and neutral terminal block ready fitted.

    There have been a few threads on superlatives recently, and I'm going to start another. Which town or city in the UK has the greatest number of Railway Stations per capita of the population? For this to be meaningful, London, Brum, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow are excluded, not because they are big, but they are really conurbations and defining boundaries is difficult and will lead to arguments. My first shot is Falmouth. 3:- Docks, Town and Penmere. Population 21,797 (2011 census), one per 7,266 people. GO!

    There is a list of compromises in the article, most of which are fixable, except perhaps the over-wide firebox (required for the Lima pancake I assume) which would be tricky to corrrct.
