  1. Nail varnish - I use it on some points to prevent some of the wider wheels using a short on DCC. Does need reapplying eventually
  2. E-mail them about the slide bar it may turn out it can be bent back in easily. One of the bogie rear splasher's was a bit to far forward on mine and fouled the wheel. It adjusted back with no problem.
  3. My first suggestion is if you haven't updated Java then do that. That could be why JMRI will not run.
  4. Splashers fitted OK on mine when set in towards the wheels but I cannot get them to fit for 18" curves without a bit of trimming. The shiny metal strip could be one of the strips that goes from the cab to the 8' splashers. One of mine fell off. It fits into a small hole in the front of the cab and sits in an indentation on the splasher. I refitted mine by using a very small amount of PVA on the strip where it fits on the splasher. Still on at the moment.
  5. If its as well packed as mine it should be OK. The model is in a clam shell surrounded by foam in a sturdy box. This was in a poly bag and wrapped in about 5 feet by 2.5 feet of a foam material similar to what is used under flooring. Then around that a good cardboard box and finally a poly delivery bag.
  6. Well that was lucky. Checked my e-mails before going out. Nothing about delivery. Got home and as I was getting out of the car APC pulled up. A quick look and I have to say an amazing model. Further examination , running in etc will to have to wait as I'm going out again. (The chains have survived the journey)
  7. I did mention this used to occur on buses which are public transport and were also used by children under 11. If miners could curb their swearing in a public situation then why should people have to listen to a group of women 'F ing ' and 'C ing'. I never said that women should not swear and to the best of my recollection men back then did not think that women should not swear. It all came down to time and place.
  8. Yes we need to remember that not all women are angels. Rather a long time ago now (mid 50's onwards) my father was a coal face worker and like most miners tended to use some colourful language at times but most knew when to curb it. Down the hill from the pit was an egg packing factory which was mostly women. So they frequently found themselves on a bus at they same time. The women were mostly North Staffordshire and the miners who were mostly Geordie or Welsh were disgusted with the language coming the mouths of these women.
  9. In the shop I frequent most these days I've seen people trying to get a discount on items already at a similar price to Hattons/Rails. On one occasion I got fed up of one individual keep saying it was cheaper in Hattons even though the prices were the same as or only £1 or £2 more so in the end I told him to go to Hattons.
  10. When I was working in a model shop another common approach was the 'I know what they are worth' and then they get offended with what you offer. I got tired of explaining how we worked out the price so basically just started telling them if thats what they wanted then sell it on e-bay
  11. Best boss I ever had was a woman
  12. I'm sure Stoke Cockshute roundhouse was once a subject on here. But i suspect its archived now but there may be some links in that. So google for stoke on trent cockshute roundhouse and it may find it. (I remember because I used to live near Newcastle under Lyme)
  13. The point of model railway/railroad , playing with toy trains is to have fun , enjoyment and pleasure. If emulating real world and using the correct proportions of locos. coaches and wagon does that for you then good. But the same applies to the guy (or gal) who owns the complete classes of Princess's and Princess Coronation's and runs them with a couple of 3 coach rakes. I sure that at exhibition's you would get some people that like the real world scenario with maybe 2 trains a day and others who like to see the not realistic express belting around.
  14. I'm sure there are plenty of ways to look at this. Here's a possible. I run 2 trains , 1up 1 down say like London - Edinburgh. So we start with 2 sets of coaches and 2 locos. So on arrival into terminus I need 2 more locos for the return trips while the first 2 go on shed for coaling oiling etc. Now we have 4 locos and 2 sets of coaches. Really should have 1 spare at each end so were up to 6 and maybe a couple in works. making 8. Oh dear, that means I now need to stop buying A4's
  15. Your quoting what is posted on the ICO website but that does not mean you understand things. If you wish to make a complaint you need to make it to the Data Protection Manager/Officer responsible for Locomotion Models. He or she can then investigate to determine if a breach has occurred. Then if a breach has occured they have 72 hours to report. But you don't know if they already have. I also notice what your omitting to add in is that failure to notify is up to 10 million euro fine or 2% of global profit. Your going to be really popular if that happens.
