  1. Hmm... that's interesting. The separate NDM (R3948) is motorised, so when added to the yellow fronted set (R3973 / 370003/004), you effectively get two motors. I guess if I get the black fronted one, I could use R3948 to add a boost of power. Thanks for replying.
  2. Thanks for posting the packaging photos - helps me work out how much space to allocate the boxes and I'm not joking! Do you know if both NDM's are motorised? I saw an earlier Hornby train formation image that suggested that one is a dummy but I can't believe that would be the case. I know a separate motorised NDM was available for the yellow fronted APT set but not yet seen confirmation of the NDM in the black/yellow APT set. Thanks in advance, Ixion.
  3. That would go nicely with 73005, from Signal Box a few years back... I remember seeing both in the real world back in the day. 73004 was probably the better looking one though, with the yellow cab sides giving it a real character. I would be after one if they did it!
  4. Have a very well earned Christmas break and best wishes for 2022! Ixion.
  5. Got my first Cavalex models - the KFA Warflats! Wonderful models and along with the various other models, a testament to your efforts. Really looking forward to the 56 and coal/china clay hopper! Have a wonderful Christmas break and best wishes for 2022!
  6. Everyone at Accurascale has done a superb job, not just in announcing wonderfully detailed models but also with the proof in the pudding (Christmas pudding perhaps?). Clearly lots of enthusiasm for the subject, lots of attention to detail and with a great customer support base too. Hope you all have a wonderful, safe and relaxing Christmas break and best wishes for 2022 !
  7. There are plenty of one-offs out: DRS: 66405 Malcolm Logistics 66411 Stobart GBRf: 66779 Evening Star 66789 British Rail 66783 Flying Dustman 66731 Thank You NHS 66709 'Sorento' 66705 Medite... EWS: 66111 with Highland Stag 66177 white cab roof... ...doesn't have to be GBRf specifically (Europorte or other). But I do agree, it would be good to see more 'ordinary ones' though.
  8. I expect it's a matter of confusion... unless they're holding back the 1st batch until the 2nd arrives so they all go out at the same time... not normal business practice though. Pleased to hear it looks good though - hoping to place an order for one myself. I'm glad some of these one-off liveries are being caught... adds for a bit of variation.
  9. I wonder if they really meant the 1st painted sample rather than saleable stock? ...and a second sample (often with revisions) next year?
  10. Hi Farang, I guess you could also consider train packs/sets, where the loco is held in a larger polystyrene frame with other vehicles, e.g. 3 coaches or a few wagons, maybe a controller and/or track. Also more drawer-like structures, e.g. the VSOE sets. Coaches and wagons were (still are?) in a card box with a clear acetate window backed by a removable white card sleeve, but a shiny, thin plastic insert which screeches when you slide it out. Some older wagons (perhaps others?) had folded card inserts, stuck inside to the main package body, to support the vehicle, e.g. I have an old R007 (U.D. Milk Tank Wagon) in such packaging. These were subject to the wagon easily shaking around and sliding along a few millimeters, so not great support but when detail was nowhere near today's standards and small add-on bits today were molded on or not even there at all! As for DCC - the 2006 Hornby Catalogue does mention DCC but not on a loco-level basis, just the controller section. I suspect it was slightly earlier in time though (2003/4) when the 'Super Detail' Class 50 came out for which I believe all had DCC sockets (8-pin). Certainly the 50 Years catalogue of 2004 had the 50's (50035 in large logo as one of them) and the Hatton's product database shows it was a 2003 release. As for NEM coupling... no real idea, sorry! Hope that helps Ixion.
  11. I expect the sound ones are taking time and were probably quite popular pre-orders. I gather they fit their own sound modules at Rails, so they warned that they would take longer. It would make sense for them to send out the non-sound ones first to make some space, so possibly fewer hands to help out (any spacing restrictions aside). I'm looking forward to my black, sound one too. I really like the black locos, though I've only ever seen 18000 in green at Didcot GWS. Always wondered what the real thing sounded like but I guess having a sound model of one is the next best thing. The down side is I'm also tempted to get sound for all my other early experimental locos too (where available)!
  12. I quite like the 58020 with 'Railfreight' plate on the front... I remember seeing plates on the real locos, first wondering what it was until I got close enough. It gave them a special character in my view. I particularly liked 58050 'Toton Traction Depot' in Coal Sector with a black 'Railfrieght' plate on the front... but the red stripe will do me too
  13. Looks like Dapol corrected the name on 58002 - originally showing as 'Dowmill Colliery' (some shops still showing this).... now corrected to 'Daw Mill Colliery'. I might be tempted for another coal sector one
  14. I was really pleased to see this on their website yesterday. I first thought it was just an update on 18000 but then a second glance revealed it was 18100! Like a certain other manufacturer, pleased Heljan have helped develop models of unusual locos over the years and hats off to Rails for commissioning these two models (18000, 18100). These unusual locos must have been quite something to see out on the rails at a time when experimental vehicles were laying down the future of rail travel and as for gas turbines?! I'm certainly interested in getting at least one... I guess a gas turbine one will suit me with no overhead wires Well done Rails and Heljan - hope this one is a success too!
  15. I was always fascinated by how these had an 'upstairs'... My Dad told me how they worked, though not sure he had ever seen one. Then one day I found a video (film) somewhere of people getting in one and it made more sense. I never rode on one - I only remember doing so on the unusual (at the time) 210 units... engine on full revs with little movement! These unusual concept vehicles really suit my kind of interest but I will need to see anticipated prices and I hope to get one (probably BR blue) but good luck to KR Models - certainly keeping up with a reputation for going for the unusual vehicles. I am sure there is a market there for people like myself as well as those with layouts that suit the era/location of the models... or just want something a little different - all good for the hobby and collector, alike!
  16. Have the DRS Mk2f's come in now as they say they're bringing some along to the event? I have got a set on order already, so expecting the postman soon, if so... (and the 20's!). Wish I could go to the event but sadly not this time. Hope it's a good day for all that do!
  17. I only have some of the older Farish coaches but these will help model the later scene. I have always been interested in the Pullmans, so a good call! Something to go behind Tornado? Will almost certainly get a rake... or two... Well done Revolution Trains (again in one day!).
  18. I remember seeing an underground train at Oxford Model Railway Exhibition back in the 1970's! I felt it was probably N-gauge as despite me being small, it looked small to me and I could see it from the side wall of the layout I always wanted to see an N-gauge one, so this is a real positive surprise! Well done Revolution Trains! I especially like the IOW interest in them... definitely one to order
  19. I have just checked mine (S2101-01) and there are two pieces of paper with it - both regarding the model itself (DCC, parts, etc.). I don't see a separate note as such (receipt or on the box), though I do put in good faith that a donation was made... checking back it looks like ~£8? from a Newsletter. As far as the model itself, I'm generally a diesel person but was happy to support the venture and very glad I did. The thing that stood out to me was the fine level of detail. I don't have many steam locos but the work put into this comparatively small engine was very pleasing to see. I'll be keeping eyes open on this company (I already have a number of the great little VEA vans). So, well done to the team, especially Sam, on this first loco in N from Sonic Models.
  20. Hi Ben - pricing error on 59206 (Freightliner Orange / analogue version)? I think there must be a price typo on the 59206 'John F Yeoman' DC/DCC Ready version on the Revolution Website - showing the same as the sound fitted version: Freightliner Orange - 59 I'm so glad you announced the 59 as it's one of my favourite locos. When the other manufacturer's model in N was temporarily suspended (understandably, I might say), I felt disappointed. However, I was really hoping for 59001 in FY Silver... so I am sure a decent order will be coming you way very soon. My only other hope is for 59002 'Alan J Day' in the special livery Thanks, Ixion.
  21. So many options, details and a couple of new ideas... well done Bachmann! With other manufacturers showing what they can do, it's good to see Bachmann attacking this loco class with similar levels of detail. Look forward to hearing the new announcements Additional...I wonder if the BCC will do a special version of this loco as its next/future release? I was only thinking about it the other day, believing it never would happen with the current tooling but with the new tooling, maybe the option has been provided for...
  22. I'm no ace at building models but I'd be pleased if I had done so well as you! You've obviously had one for some time... now I can't wait for my 'easy-route to having one' one
  23. @96701 I too am looking forward to receiving mine and most of all I am sure, like you, will enjoy owning one and most likely running it. I've never seen the real thing but all experimental locos fascinate me either through their engineering or just their general uniqueness. Buying models gives me the chance to experience what it must have been like to see various locos long since gone, either in action or to admire their general presence or perhaps tell a story of development through the ages. Although I fear how many experimental locos are becoming or even could become RTR reality, I welcome manufacturers to offer them so I can continue my enthusiasm for and enjoyment of them. But hats off to KR Models for attempting some of the most unusual ones though!
  24. In essence, the brightness is down to the current magnitude - basically, the number of electrons dropping the energy level per second As the diode changes little in forward voltage for fairly significant changes in current, a potentiometer will do the trick to a first order... though using a log pot may make it a bit sensitive at the one end. Also worth putting a fixed resistor in there too so when the pot reaches near to 0 ohms, it limits the current to the maximum brightness of the LED. I tried getting some photos of the Kytes models but they are not quite what I was after - if I can, I'll try to get some better ones tomorrow. The models are quite expensive but then they are quality models with a lot of manual work behind them. They often supply a small 2 x AAA battery box to power the model but also do a proper regulator if running off 12V or another voltage. I remember them telling me not to use rechargeable batteries in the AAA box though as they had heard of cases of the LED's blowing when the batteries were found to be running above 1.5V...not heard of that myself but I bow to their experience! They often put warnings on the boxes saying '3 Volts DC Only' so using one of their regulators should protect over a wide range of voltages. As I say, they are good models with very bright flashing blue lights. Just checked the AA van - the two yellow lights on the rear flash in quick succession then off for a brief period before repeating. I might have to create a 'On The Workbench' like thread... I don't post too much myself but more than happy to share comments, ideas and maybe one day details of a layout!!! Will look into that and let you know... Cheers, Ixion.
  25. Just found this video online of an ambulance and a fire engine - Emergency Vehicles - Kytes Lights. Judging by the track this is OO gauge but they do N gauge ones too. I vaguely recall that they couldn't fit one or the other light, maybe the headlights, but they are pretty impressive things. If I can, I'll try to get an N gauge one out over the weekend and see if I can get a photo. PWM control will allow you to technically do any kind of light animation but the potentiometer way is easiest to start with. Glad the 31 is still running... hope the emergency response vehicles won't need calling out Have a good weekend, Ixion.
