  1. Is it a mould seam or a reflection? I've not noticed it in other photos and it doesn't appear to be there on the black version.
  2. Thanks for posting updates and photos from Kettering, wasn't able to get there myself this year.
  3. Hi Giles, isn't Uckfield the following weekend?: http://www.uckfieldmrc.co.uk/exhibition.html
  4. I find wine bottle foil too thick, even in 7mm. Instead I just use thin paper painted in gunmetal, then weathered down. Easier to cut, fit and fix.
  5. I personally don't see the clash with GETS as an issue. I've been once and don't think I'd bother going again. I can play the sardine game on my train trips to and from Birmingham or on the London Underground. The two events seem completely different and I think will attract different audiences. The Statfold event is certainly in my diary. I just hope they start beefing up the capacity of the catering to cope with the visitor numbers. Being only 5 miles down the road I'd happily offer my cameo layout for a show in 2025. Photos courtesy of Jamie of this parish.
  6. Yes, I loves a bit of roofing. (That's what you were referring to, yes?)
  7. Is this the right thread for an argument? Just asking for a friend...
  8. Exhibitors don't weather buildings? I beg to differ... And another currently being finished... There are a significant number of layouts out there where everything is modelled and weathered to an overall convincing scene. Just a few examples from layouts I've been involved in: (Above 3 photos taken by Jamie of this parish) (Above 2 photos by Andy York)
  9. Great news. Just 10mins down the road.
  10. Certainly isn't the original plate: To be honest, none of the numerals look quite right, and the spacing is off. You'd like to think an organisation like the NRM would get stuff like this right.
  11. My thoughts exactly. I'm not at all bothered if others want to put the FS on a pedestal but all the hype turns me right off. I'd actually rate a pannier tank as more iconic (what have I said). In my eyes there are better looking, better performing, more powerful, and faster locos that I would put ahead of it. Ditto, don't care about it but not bothered if others like it and it makes them happy. Stunning. Iconic, particularly before the engine was silenced. Brutish performance. Simply the best.
  12. Seemed to be a few things not in the right place. It was only the main hall, north shed (archive and FS den) and a kiddie play area that was open today. Another area was closed due to having a new roof fitted and everything on the other side of the road appears to have been demolished. Interestingly, the hall was swarming with families, kids and pushchairs. So much for the theory that the general public don't do trains anymore. Lots of kids running around excitedly looking at stuff and making various choo choo noises.
  13. Day trip, via Birmingham. The day totally spoiled by the lack of any sort of pannier tank, even in model form. I shall be writing a sternly worded missive to my MP.
  14. Apparently it's the world's most famous train. Had a good look at the rear of the tender. Seems shorter than I remember...
  15. Good to to see a Charlie guarding the entrance to the FS virtual experience. Was absolutely gutted not to be able to get tickets.
  16. More joy for you... Doesn't get much better does it? No, hang on, you also need to see the FS sacred shrine: Repleat with that must have item... FS coffee:
