  1. Big thank you to @Modelu Chris for sorting out the issue I had with the holderbats. Excellent customer service.
  2. And I bet nobody returned a Pat van due to the cat not having enough whiskers, the red being a shade off or the wheels not being round...
  3. Rrom? Is that Welsh dear sheep. Are you going native on us?? Be sure to post a photo of the pannier.
  4. Well said @AY Mod I've not bought anything from Hattons for a good 5 years (except some plasticard in their closing sale). I've not visited Warley show for 10 years (hated the crush). I've not been a member of a model railway club for over 20 years (but support my old one when I can). On that basis I'm totally doomed and can't possibly do any modelling. There are other forums for sharing info, other shows to visit, and other places to buy materials. Life goes on, stuff changes and we adjust.
  5. Did the survey and used the then given 15% discount code on ordering some bits in 7mm from the guttering range to add to what I already had. Now a question for @Modelu Chris, I've just tried to I sett the recommended Evergreen 2mm dia rod (ref 212) into the O gauge 3" holderbat. It seems miles to big. So I've put the calipers on the rod and and it is indeed 2mm. Even after chamfering the tip and running some wet and dry around the road it still doesn't fit in the holderbat. A 2mm drill bit won't fit in the holderbat either. Is the recommendation of 2mm Evergreen rod incorrect (3" in 7mm scale is 1.75mm)? Have others got it to work? Have the holderbats shrunk?? Any help or advice welcomed.
  6. So, I've discovered a very useful feature on the phone which makes Pannier tanks disappear. The AI involved has had some very impressive results but this approach to making one of Sheepster's Panniers disappear is absolute genius IMO. Before After. Nice bush....
  7. What a week for news! First Hattons then Warley show - two Hobby flagships going down, all be it responsibly and for good, understandable reasons. Both will be remembered for adding a lot to the hobby for many people over many years. That said, having moved from 4mm to 7mm stuff in 2013, I didn't have much need to shop at Hattons. I also stopped going to and exhibiting at Warley around the same time. Too crowded, too much NEC generated bureaucracy, too expensive a day out, and so many of the small traders that I wanted stopped going. Despite not availing myself of Hattons or Warley, I have still been an active modeller and have enjoyed what I've been making. Perhaps that's the key, I enjoy making stuff rather than opening boxes. For me the world hasn't ended but I appreciate that others, with different modelling preferences, these news items have been bombshells. The workforce at Hattons also have my sympathies. On the bright side, if you're looking for an alternative big show, visit Stafford. Much more space between stands, free parking, cheaper ticket and so much more relaxed. I've been demonstrating there for a few years and really enjoy it. (Cards on table, until about 2010 and moving away I was a Stafford club member). For those that like moaning about the great unwashed and backpacks, I'm pleased to report that they are also available here... Here's hoping that the Warley club go back to their roots and go for a smaller, more manageable, local type show. Good luck to those involved in their future endeavours.
  8. Absolutely superb observation and implementation. Cracking little scene.
  9. I think that the overall end result is most important. It's all very well concentrating on one element (with track and locos being favourite focuses) and getting that right to the nth degree, but if you apply a lesser level to scenics, stock, running, presentation (for instance) then for me the overall effect is diminished. I believe Rob's layouts are successful as he applies the same standards to everything and the results are consistent and believable.
  10. A slightly belated Happy New Year folks Been down here: Was a slightly wavy... A very yucky trip back up home and somewhat damp underfoot back in the village... (That river above is normally a road)
  11. I know, l know. Some people simply can't be stopped running DCC sound pannier tanks at midnight. You have my sympathies CK.
  12. Seasons greatings to Ewe and yours (excluding garden sheds, panniers and the Flying Scotsman). Was a pleasure to assist at Railwells, would happily help again. Advice for 2024? Watch your head on low ceilings...
