  1. You've made a damn good job of weathering those signs. I always keep an eye out for printed signs and posters in railway monthlies after discovering the computer printed things fade and loose their colour. Sad really as I had a lot of LNWR black & white 'finger' signs printed but they simply fade so quickly. Larry
  2. It is a shame there is no continuity with this Workbench thread Moz. Could you not 'add-on' as I do with my coach thread instead of posting separate entries (which end up all disjointed). Also a shame about the solebar issue. No pictures? Larry
  3. You posted this at 10.10 and its now 12.10.. I thought you'de have built it....!
  4. I've got to hand it to you, you scare me! Removing sleeper ties so sleepers can be re-spaced at correct intervals for 30ft track panels when most people would just be happy they are modelling in P4. It makes the use of 00 Peco points look like slap dash modelling.... Seriously though, I take my cap off. Ths Delph Branch is going to be really something when completed. Re the M12 'Oerlikon' push pull trailer, only a few were built because I got bored handbuilding the interiors! Have you got a photo of this coach that I could post in my LNWR WB by any chance? Larry
  5. By heck, that's lookin' nice Peter.
  6. Quick work Moz. There is something wrong as I cannot move the bottom of screen slider over to see whats in the menu blocks. I wonder if your posted pictures are too big and have pushed things off screen? Has anyone else has this problem?
  7. It looks bl**dy awful...............Just like the real thing. Well done and well observed. (Had you going there..... ) Larry
  8. You must have arms like an Orang-utan the speed at which you work Moz! What happened to yesterdays Midland diners....... on thier way to Mr. S...? Aren't these the Highland TPO's that lasted in to BR days? What livery will they get? Larry
  9. You've got the application of HMRS lining transfers down to a fine art. Looking good. What's your next project then? Larry
  10. The ex GCR motor fitted coaches I saw in LNE brown were 12-wheelers built in 1905 (originally finished in GCR two-tone livery of the period). I would descibe the brown as slightly darker than mid-brown but was not as dark as GWR chocolate. The coaches together with converted steam railmotor coaches operated OA&GB services until around 1956 by which time they carried BR gil sans running numbers.

    The Devil Incarnate?

An example of the fear I mentioned is, typing in 'Cock your hat' in Google and find yourself facing a warning that you are entering adult content!

    The Devil Incarnate?

I suppose it's a measure of the fear within today's society that any humourless look@me' can pick an item as innocent as this off the web and feed it to the hyena's. Someone is happy though as it deflects attention away from the things that matter.
  13. Thanks for this Arthur. In the 1960's I simply depended on my memories of ex GCR 12-wheel push pull coaches plying back and forth between Oldham and Guide Bridge and mixed some cellulose to match that in my memory! Later on my cellolose was matched to Precision track colour paint. Everyone said it was "as they remembered it" and I got away with it! The spraygun used in the 1960's was a 'Celspray', a glass bottled scent spray look alike. Anyone else remember them? One developed deep sags across the palm of the hand after weeks of squeezing the rubber bulb. Larry
  14. How did you go on fitting those recessed doors Moz? Also, did you have to roll the etche brass roof?
  15. I wondered why these pictures are not part of your original WB blog on building these models Moz? Coaches are coming long nicely....you are a fast worker! I notice you have fitted "my" pukker Midland Railway 6-wheel bogies (they went to Davids Coaches & Castings then 247). Larry
  16. Your P4 track looks very good Dave. But I'm more interested in those little pots you have used for holding the track down. I use them for paint indoors so if you have a couple spare, please bring them with you next time!
  17. As you might expect, a thoroughly absorbing topic to me. I too would love to see what the NPCCS LNER brown looked like. Was it similar in shade to the stuff the LNE brushed over the coaches it bought from other railways such as LMS ex Mildland Clerestory's used on M&GN lines? Larry G.
  18. This I look forward to watching this develop being a Midland carriage fan. I found clipper-sided bodies not the easiest to build squarely. Larry
  19. What a beautiful model. A thread to keep an eye on this one. The retaining wall in front of the station (road access leading to level crossing) is particularly superb as are the lattice signal gantries. Larry G.
  20. This shot really highlights the difference between Peco HO track and British P4. However, I wonder why your group didn't use SMP for the 00 track seeing as it would have been a better match and the differences would not have been quite so obviouse. Larry G.
  21. Your coaches look very neatly painted, enhanced by the workaday finish. I agree with the above webber that detail is not so pronounced as people imagine. Larry
  22. It's a perenial problem I'm afraid. Nowadays I do swops of BR transfer sheets with a colleague....He has my S.Region 'S's and I have his M.Region 'M's... Your 70 footers look well. Whose kits are they, Phoenix? Larry
  23. I'm also glad you are continuing your excellent layout in these new pages. Doing away wth llandudno and Llandudno Junction is an interesting concept, although I wonder what happens to the great and the good living in Llandudno.... The 15.00 Cardiff to Rhyl and 19.06 Rhyl-Cardiff in 1989 could be extended to your station as these trains were the first on the North Wales line to make use of Class 37's. 37407 Loch Long, 37 427 Bont-Y-Bermo and 37430 Cumbran spring to mind. All carried large-logo livery. Larry G.
  24. Rail magazine July 1990 front cover announced 'New Look Departmental Livery' with a photo of 31541 in 'Dutch' livery. A report in 'Rail' (October 1990) went on to say.... "The mid 1980s onwards has seen an explosion of liveries on Class 47 fleet. However, for 47333, the misery continued with the application of the much critisised Departmental grey livery......fortunately, no. 47333 will soon have the 'Dutch' yellow band applied." In the same issue, Lima referred to it as 'General livery' in their were advertisment for grey Class 31 No.31568. By December. the magazine was reporting : - The first Class 26 to recieve the Civil Engineers yellow and grey livery was no. 26026 which was painted by staff at Eastfield depot in Mid-november 1990. (It carried the roundel Group depot plaques and looked quite neat). Larry G.
  25. Amongst the proliferation of liveries, there came an all-over grey livery. I'd have to search out the relavent 'Rail' to find the exact details. Someone thought the grey looked too 'Utility' and so a yellow band was added to brighten things up. It post-dates the blue era but as has been pointed out, the blue lasted quite a long time, in fact it was occasionally revived!
