  1. Re doing the sealant/caulk - I seem to remember that an old credit card works well.....mind it's a while since I did it!
  2. Would that it did! - it objected strongly if the same letter appeared in the same place two months running! Try replacing Tunnocks with Sundays3 - and because the third letter was the same - uh-oh!
  3. Working, as I did eventually, for a local government department after I left the RAF, we had to change our password monthly - it wouldn't let you use less than 8 symbols/letters/numbers and it also wouldn't let you use one that you'd used previously - I can tell you that trying to do that is almost guaranteed to make you write it down and leave it somewhere - like in a desk drawer or under a mouse mat - security? Hah!
  4. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=2019103171515092&set=gm.773538876359892&type=3&theater is an example of a small(ish) portable layout on Facebook by Dan Dossa called Hawkins Chemical - that would certainly keep you occupied for a while doing switching
  5. Like Andy (298) says, if you can squeeze in another 6", making the board 54" instead of 48", you will find it a lot less limiting. With 48" you really are limited to small engines and 40' cars. It IS possible to build layouts in 48" (see Carls small Layout Scrapbook - http://www.carendt.com/ ) - for loads of examples, but be aware that there are hardly any track plans that haven't already been built, and that you will be very restricted in your switching abilities. I'd also suggest a removable, or folding, fiddle-stick extension of one form or another - that way it can be removed for storage, and take up less space
  6. Thanks, Guys - your help in locating this is much appreciated!
  7. You may very well be right - I didn't know about the searchlight beams at the WTC. - thanks for that
  8. Just as a matter of interest (to me at any rate) this is my £3 backscene (135 x 45cm.) I had to darken it a bit as I couldn't work out how to turn off the flash on my camera - and it looked as though there was a rain/snowstorm in progress. Does anyone know where this is? (my thought was Chicago, but I'm probably wrong). There is nothing on it to identify the actual location - I'd like to try to do a yard with lighting but have some LED multi lights on a strip that the colour can be changed on, but cannot see how to connect them to the power supplies ( fairly clueless about them.)
  9. Long gone I'm afraid - currently playing with different backscene ideas for Fiddlestick Switch Job (you may be able to find it in the archives) - and changing scenery on it - I also picked up a picture of a US City night scene for £3 at our local charity warehouse to use as a backscene - so some ideas trundling around in my noggin atm -of course something else may catch my gadfly attention in the meantime! That is what usually happens. Edit Fiddlestick Switch Job can be found here -
  10. Al, you may already know about this site, but on the off-chance that you don't, and need French buildings, Google "Minifer" with no exclamation marks

    1. Barry Ten

      Barry Ten

Thanks, Jack - I must check out some of their stuff, it looks good.

      cheers,

      Al

  11. 2 things - the site is in French _ though it can be put into Google Translate - and it is built in O gauge - but what superb modelling! http://teamtrack.soforums.com/t1501-Industriel-models-layout.htm?fbclid=IwAR3IzUcPyn9mtrWTtfXJk_BNjzitSH1FBeZK24P6Q9vyK3gHHKlHqoiSyv8
  12. While RMweb was down I was looking for the French Minifer buildings site - I came across this and thought it may be useful for some continental layouts http://papermau.blogspot.com/2017/01/a-ww2s-style-house-somewhere-in-europe_7.html Hope it helps
  13. Glad to have triggered your interest, Dave - Incidentally the DPM series is done by a guy who was a friend of my friend, Carl Arendt (sadly missed!)
  14. AH, The Victor - the tanker version (aka the Flying Brick) would take the entire runway to get airborne, and barely clear the fence at the far end - it was said that it was why the road traffic lights were fitted at the southern end to stop lorries crossing when a scramble was taking place!
  15. As an ex- air trafficker, when people asked what I did and I said "I talk to aeroplanes", I used to get some funny looks......!
  16. Mal, really sorry to hear this news - may your future be as painless and gently smooth as possible - the Big C is a bu99er!
  17. I guess I'm about to upset a lot of people - for many years I drank coffee, and then , one day and for no discernable reason. I switched to tea - and not just tea, but the powdered, freeze dried tea in a jar from PG Tips, and have remained with it ever since - I do have a cup of chocolate in the evenings, and my other half is a confirmed drinker of STRONG coffee
  18. Borrowed from FB - and who said the Americans can't do satire? If you watched the play-off (particularly LAR and NOL) you know EXACTLY what I mean!
  19. They obviously didn't listen to "You & yours" on Radio4 at lunchtime today - some of the call-ins were REALLY frightening. including one regarding her father who was partly blind and being told which way to go by his elderly wife giving a running commentary! - may be it was the one that Tony met in B&Q!
  20. Seen on FB - be warned - this is dreadful! Finding a woman sobbing that she had locked her keys in her car, a passing soldier assures her that he can help. She looks on amazed as he removes his trousers, ..... Rolls them into a tight ball and rubs them against the car door. Magically it opens....... "That's so clever," the woman gasps. "How did you do it?" "Easy," replies the man. "These are my khakis".
  21. You'll only use it to replace trouser zips once - lots of "OUCH!" and detachment with scissors....
  22. Re the post above - I have just discovered that the "Super Blood Moon" will take place tonight - I shall still be tucked up under my duvet! If you want more info - see https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-46908305
  23. Apparently if you were supervising Ben between 0330 and 0530 this morning, and had clear skies, you'd have seen a blood moon eclipse - which won't happen again till 2029 - needless to say I was tucked up in my nice, warm bed
  24. I know we have members who suffer from this debilitating malady, so please excuse this copy across from FB - it just may be of interest (and use) to them
