  1. Note to self, remember to save some Christmas money for the the two NCBs on order .....
  2. Nice work Tim, when are you tackling the signal wires?, looking forward to pics.....
  3. Cheers Torkard, I saw Sherwood's flyer for those wagons at the Woodborough Show, might be interested in the H J Redgate one, but not the other - pricey too, I could do my own now with the HMRS transfers I ordered today
  4. Don't joke - we had a RIDDOR reportable injury because a fitter did not do up his bootlaces and just held them on with cable ties ......
  5. No problems with the cold Mark, I was warned and had my fleece with me, funnily the chap from brilliant Baseboards didn't seem to have been so warned and grumbled most of the day
  6. Scooby is all packed up ready for this afternoon's sprint "down south", don't think I've left anything
  7. Sounds like you were way ahead of me - just didn't want you to turn up at a show and find the wagging finger of a PAT tester .....
  8. Tonight I have to pack up Summat Colliery ready for the trip down south for Wycrail on Saturday, so no time left for futher fiddling - frankly I'm getting ready to pack it away under the desk and get on with some other modelling. It's the last outing until the Mansfield show next year - I could do with a few more bookings, so if you have a space to fill ....... So, hope to see loads of you at Wycrail, there's a lot of new detail etc on the layout since Member's Day and the Derby show, not least the operating signal that caused me so much heartache over the last month or so. I have a Golden Arrow Crosti 9F conversion to do before Christmas, so will detail that on my main modelling blog step by step
  9. wooden box for the electrics? - not mains I hope?, a lot of exhibition managers take a very dim view of such things. Wood gets wet and then starts to conduct ... Ramrig set out the case very well on the old forum
  10. Hi there mason, Howes still do the Craftsman detailing kit http://www.howesmodels.co.uk/Railways/viewProduct.php?ProdID=341 - I'd also agree Shawplan should be able to supply loads of bits and bobs. How old is the Duff - is it the plastic ringfield or the better and earlier metal Fliechmann derived unit?
  11. now you're thinking about those Noch figures I was thinking about putting inside the store should anyone care to peek inside.
  12. Popped in to my local purveyor of all things electronic (been using them for 30 odd years!) and bought a 2.5mm mono plug and matching screened metal cased socket. Soldered the plug to the end of the bulb wires and drilled a 7mm hole in the baseboard. Glued the socket in said hole and connected wires to the 18v DC bus and hey presto Also bought a new right angled speaker plug - I use these to connect the DCC signal from the controller to the baseboard(s) - This one has screw connections and takes nice big flat section flex - so a new hook up cable from Dynamis to layout has been made that can be modified to work with say a PowerCab if Dynamis lets me down ..... I've also planted more flowers and added ivy to the explosives store.
  13. Can't believe anyone on here does not have one yet, if two total BR Standard steam nuts like me and Ramrig have them what's your excuse? Get one while you can, there's only 4000 of 'em (I'd phone Gareth at Trains4U, he needs a boost following the break-in at the weekend)
  14. like the difference in grass texture between the railway and the rest of the world - somehting I am trying to achieve with Summat Colliery - trimming down the hanging basket liner one side of the fence and teasing it up around the fence the other
  15. Looking good Ian, I'd leave the hillside "wild", that group of buildings looks too cramped in my eyes. What backscene will you use, one of the Into the Town series?
  16. Well, I'm hoping it's here in time for Christmas, SWMBO has been primed to tell "Santa" ........
  17. Does anybody know when? - in time for Santa?
  18. I bought a load of long leaded 6v bulbs at the Derby Show this year and last night I started to add a few to the layout. I made some 3mm holes in the back panels of the "Bus Garage" and poked the bulbs through. Then followed a good hour playing around with combinations of series/parallel wiring to get the level of illumination right. I ended up with using 5 in series which with the 18-19v laptop PSU voltage available gives a nice warm glow to the building. Not permanently wired up yet, will have another go tonight and take some piccies. Won't be too good though as my cameraphone does not do low lighting very well must get SWMBO to buy a new camera
  19. Good news and bad I guess for you Andrew, good to see sales are going well and stock is not sitting on the shelves, but a real shame that this excellent kit is no longer available. Can't understand why the rights to build have not been passed on to someone else. Can't be the price if you have sold the remainder of your stock in the last few weeks
  20. as you should be able to see I got it working ... all I can say is take your time, read the instuctions and take it steady .....
  21. Well, in less than an hour we have this .... Shame that Major Clanger (Wizard Models) only has four or so left of these servo kits left, even I managed to get it up and running
  22. look forward to seeing the results - I too am in that phase with Summat Colliery, I've bought some min-ature ivy and flowers and have experimented with making my own foliage too. I've also been toying with the idea of the bracken stems since seeing them on a layout in Hornby mag
  23. Two years ago I started Summat Colliery - my first real attempt at a scenic layout and a portable exhibitable one at that If you want to follow the path I took over the last two years, it's here on the old forum, but this blog will show what happens next and give details of shows etc that it is booked to attend. I've added a Exhibition Diary block which will detail shows that Summat Colliery will be attending
  24. eh? since when was Mansfield & Shirebrook not in the midlands? Lion would be tempting though, I must admit ......
  25. Ready for April 2010? - might be able to sqeeze you in otherwise looks good for 2011 .......
