Thoroughly enjoyed the weekend putting new layout HO/HOm Auswiss through its paces. A useful learning curve!
Great atmosphere, very good layouts, and excellent hospitality. Last but notleast, thanks for all the support provided by Les and his team.

Well, that was a most enjoyable weekend and a pleasure to have been able to participate in a very successful show.
Thanks to Mark and the team for being so helpful and welcoming. Sue and I look forward to having another opportunity to contribute in the not too distant future.

That preheater tower looks very convincing, are you going the whole hog with rotary kiln, Leopold grate, clinker conveyors etc?
Thanks, those elements are appealing and I wish I had the space to add them. There will be some raw materials silos, elevators, conveyor sections, and distribution silos. The rest will be ‘assumed’.

OK, update on proposed Cement Works, for new layout AuSwiss, to be shown at Preston MRE in March.
First target was to start on the Cyclone Preheater Tower, referred to above. Plastruct & Javis items were used to create the framework components.
Next are decking and one of the many main tower pipes so far - the background screnshot shows the complexity of the real tower. The final structure will naturally be less complex, but lots more to do.
So, here is the first stage skeleton of the project.
Update 1st Nov 2023: taking shape - more to do:
4.11.2023 further development stage - but not yet complete. The next post will give a preliminary size perspective.

Hello
We see some excellent creations on this topic, invariably presenting finished work. My project will be to create a Swiss Cement Works; re-using as many leftover scrap components as I can to start with.
Just as a teaser, this pile of bits dumped on my desk, plus a 1 metre pipe from a builders merchants, and a speculative plan, represent something embryonic. Construction progress will follow.
Of course, plans can change!
Update: 28.10.2023
An initial crude perspective of a basic Cement Works concept, just to indicate what is manageable in the space available. Note the use of the sophisticated modelling techniques :-). :

Thanks for all the comments guys. I managed to spend 5 hours at Westbury last week. Plenty of 66s and 70s during that time. I hadn't realised there would be such activity in the Westbury yards itself. Anyway, after 4+ hours, it looked like my hope for a 59 was going to be thwarted. There was not a lot of activity on the avoider tracks. Then .. the 14:06, 6L21 Fhh Whatley Quarry to Dagenham Dock A.R.C with 42 wagons @ 4400 tonnes arrived hauled by 59201 + 59103.
Absolutely made my day. Thanks.

Final countdown to the NMRS's 4th exhibition, and 2nd show at the Grenoside Community Centre, taking place this coming weekend.
For those driving to the show, there is a car park with approx. 60 spaces - if this is full, on-street parking is available on Main Street by St Mark's Church or further down towards the crossroads with Saltbox Lane.
If you are making your way to the show by public transport, on Saturday the Stagecoach bus 86 runs approx. half-hourly from Sheffield City Centre (Angel Street) and Chapeltown (connecting with Northern services to/from Sheffield & Barnsley), and passes the venue on Grenoside Main Street. On Sunday however, the 86 runs hourly along the main A61 road, and as such you will need to alight at the first stop after the cross-roads with Saltbox Lane/Wheel Lane (if travelling from Sheffield City Centre), or the first stop after the Red Lion pub. After alighting from the bus, continue for another 50 yards then turn left onto Blacksmith Lane, with access into Grenoside Park directly across the road - the venue is a 10 minute walk away through the park.
Hopefully see you there!
Chris
Looks a very good range of layouts. Hope the show goes really well - sadly, we are down south and won't be able to visit.

There's probably not too many exhibition layouts in the right area - these wagons did have quite a localised area of use and I dont remember seeing them outside that in their lifetime (but I guess they must have been transferred to works for attention at times, probably in ones or twos)
I use a small rake (6) on Clayton End Signalman, with Ten Commandment loads. They will be at 3 shows in September.- 2

this ones your man, often double headed on a mondays, ive seen it with a 3rd 59 in the middle before now.
7A09 45mph, 4800 tons, I think is pathed as the heaviest UK train.
https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:H36114/2023-04-24/detailed
Splits into 2 or 3 at Acton, usually one of them takes a 59 to Purley, Ardingley or Crawley.
the GWML beyond Reading towards Acton usually isnt a bad shout for viewing 59’s in a morning, returning evening… with the current works on the Oxford line theres quite a bit more diverted GWML freight currently, I like Langley or West Drayton myself.
Thanks for that info. The 4800 ton load would be a cracker, and would be worth the trip down there, in its own right.
Thanks again also, to everyone who has given me some pointers.

Correct. I had no idea the new estate was Amazon Way. The avoider splits at Fairwood Jn, and rejoins at Heywood Road Jn (and vice versa in the Down direction).
Here's the bridge at Fairwood, decent views of all directions, and opentraintimes.com map for Westbury helps you see what line stuff is coming from.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/3RXmAF6VnpyMrJY88Pics all taken from the bridge linked on Google (all pics linked from Flickr.)
Avoider, heading back to the quarries:
Heading into Westbury
Coming out of Westbury
Hope that gives a flavour

Absolutely Excellent!
