  1. Thanks Rich. I hadn't realised that until I looked at the picture again!
  2. The Inn and surrounding scenery at the front of the layout are slowly taking shape 1623 delivers some empty ballast hoppers to the quarry loading point.
  3. Heljan Dogfish. A bit of patch painting with Mig rust colours and the under frame was given a light spray of a brownish grey colour before powders (dark earth, smoke and red oxide) were applied
  4. I’ve made a start on weathering the class 14. Mostly powder, following the techniques described by NHY581 in his thread
  5. Great photo John, and very timely. I wish I could "like" it multiple times.
  6. Somewhere between Parkend and Coleford I think.
  7. Weathering starts tomorrow. Needs to be done by Edington.
  8. It is, though there were 4 hoppers on the pack I got. It was on offer. It is very nice, but stop trying to persuade me to buy models 😊 Do you have shares in Rails of Sheffield? Cheers Alex
  9. Happy Christmas everybody. I trust Santa has been good to you all. He brought this for me today.
  10. It’s from photographs. These days I don’t worry about having a drawing. I try to find a suitable commercially available window and work out the proportions from that, or use something like embossed plasticard to help me set out the proportions and right angles.
  11. The next building at Lydbrook Dean is the George Inn at the front centre of the layout. It’s based on the George Inn at Fetter Hill on the Coleford branch. The basic structure is 40thou plasticard, overlaid with Slaters embossed brick and stone sheets. The building provides a view block between the quarry and station scenes. The lean to at the left hand end of the building is removable, to allow a hinge block to be fitted so that the layout can be folded for transportation. When in place, the removable section is retained by a system of tongues and slots made from 40 thou plasticard.
  12. Thank you for the pitures Simon. I’ve sent you a pm Alex
  13. Hi Simon , most interesting to hear of your connection with Points Quarry. One of the things I like about RW web is how it can trigger memories and the mass of information it throws up. Yes please I'd love to see the photographs. I don't know which part of the country you are in, but Lydbrook Dean will be at the Edington show in Somerset on 6/7 January 2024. Best wishes for Christmas and the new year. Alex
  14. Hi Simon. The article has come out well, hasn't it? Thanks for your kind compliments. I do like Princetown. One day I might model it. I've got some of the stock and the Rapido 44xx may provide a catalyst. Funnily enough the quarry on my new layout "Lydbrook Dean" is inspired by Poin's quarry, so you might take a look at my layout thread for that if you haven't already seen it. Alex
  15. In October 1962, 8701 waits for the right of way at Lydbrook Dean
  16. Today we find 3737 shunting some mineral wagons in Whitehill quarry.
  17. Looking down the hillside to 3737 shunting in the quarry
  18. Great line up Rob. Really looking forward to this. Ruyton Road is particularly interesting to me as it is one of the inspirations behind Lydbrook Dean. It is rather exciting to be on the same bill. Kyle of Lochalsh brings back memories of my time at university in Scotland, so I'm looking forward to seeing that one too.
  19. No problem John. How did you do the tunnel walls?
  20. 8701 waits for 3737 to leave the yard with empty wagons. 8701 with a short goods train ready to leave Lydbrook Dean.
  21. A brace of panniers await their next duty at Lydbrook Dean
  22. Mineral wagons being delivered to and collected from the quarry.
  23. Thanks Neil. I like your pannier. I was happy with the Bachmann one but a chat with CK about riveted tanked panniers in the Forest has got me looking at an Accurascale one.
  24. A quiet moment at Lydbrook Dean - pretty typical really.
