It's been a while since I've posted anything in here, just been busy with so many things. I've documented the full story of this project on the DEMU forum, however following a recent WAG meeting there seemed to be some interest in it so I thought I'd share it over here as well...

I've wanted to do a new Slug for some time (I did one on the old Lima model a few years ago) the old model was not up to my current standard for use on my layout so I set about building a new one, now whilst you can get conversion kits for these loco's they are designed for the Lima model and are thus not to scale for the Bachmann 37... The etched kit is a scale foot to narrow on the width IIRC. Following a bit of a mad suggestion by a DEMU member I then set about seeing if it would be possible to scratchbuild one from plasticard.

The loco being modelled here is 37904

Here is a brief story of the project in picture form, starting with the model as it was not long after fitting the new roof...

Next we see a shot of the new roof in place before final detailing was started

Here's a photo showing the finished roof panel in place prior to final tidying up and primer being applied

And finally a shot showing some of the front end work required for this loco... 37904 had differeing headcode styles at each end.

That's it for now as the loco is now ready to enter the paint shop, I'll of course post up some photo's of the finished article.

Comments and questions are of course welcome.

    Cheers.

    Good evening,

Wow, it's been a long time since I updated this. Where does the time go? Anyway...

This is the roadbridge at the end of the layout and the area I'm currently working on. The more I look at it the more I wonder what I can do. Do I just have the bank sloping down or could I build a shallow retaining wall around the headshunt stop block?...

Here's the area in question. A little ponder is needed over this I think.

So here we are in a new forum, so far I like the look of it. But then I've only had a quick browse...

I thought I would start this blog to provide a showcase to the layout and various projects being worked on in addition to my workbench thread! I'll also post up progress on various areas of the layout depending which part I'm working on at a given time. Before I continue with showing the current progress of things, I feel a quick run down is in order for any new members to the forum. So here goes....

My Current layout Dragon Steels is a small works based in South Wales, it is one of a few that are owned by private companies. It sees block traffic but also Speedlink feeders associated with the metals business. It also has it's own Wharf to enable Import/Export to take place, access to this is gained by internal roads and ralway lines, of course these are assumed to be 'off scene' from the rest of the layout

The idea behind it came from my seemingly growing collection of various steel carrying wagons, also being OO gauge it gives me somewhere to test any stock which I provide for public running days on the club layout as well as providing a better background for photographing WIP (Work In Progress) models.

Various forms of metals traffic can be seen here, I won't go into details but variety will be the aim of the game...

For now I'll keep it short and sweet.

Here is a link to the old Dragon Steels thread should you wish to see the story from the begining.

    Afternoon,

This is a little project to model one of the ZBA Rudd variants which cannot be obtained in kit or RTR form.

This started out as a Standard Parkside Grampus kit (PC72) but is being adapted to produce one of the ZB501U diagram rebuilds. This involves stripping the Grampus sides of some moulded detail and replacing this with plastic strip.

Here is a link to what the prototype looks like.

And here is the story with the model so far...

As can be seen I'm taking things slowly so as not to damage the original body, I'll now use the first door as a guide to do the others.

    More as it happens.
