Was good to see these in the flesh at the show Baz. I need to do some Blackadders to keep my SSAs company.
Nice work.

Nice job Baz,
I'm doing some 'Gunshot' BAAs with Colin's cradles for Dragon Steels.
Look forward to seeing it finished.

Nice job on 37904 Simon. I modelled this loco in the full metals livery and decided to scratchbuild the roof section as the Shawplan etch wasn't available at the time.

Blimey! I've just found this again. Not really keen on the blog idea for myself, I much prefer doing things in threads but I thought I'd better report that this loco is all finished having gone through a revamp in recent months.

Hi Rodger,
Neptune Road is looking good. I'm pleased to say I've really got my butt into gear over the last few weeks and have made some excellent progress.
All track is now permanetly laid and wired up, some groundwork has appeared and now I'm back to working on my buildings.
Can it really take this long to build a micro layout!?...
If you fancy a look, the link is in my sig. Hopefully I'll see you at the next meeting.

Well it seems the dilema has been overcome following some thinking and tinkering. Now I can move onto other things, here's the result of this evenings work.

Hi Chris,
Well I was planning on just painting the backboard a plain colour like white or something. I've never really been a big fan of paper backscenes, but of course I would welcome any ideas/suggestions from people before I decide on anything permanent.

Very nice,
Wasn't even aware of a PAA kit. Who are these made by?
Look forward to seeing the finished article.

Nice progress on these Martin!
I'm looking at a batch of BP tanks which AFAIK were also built in two (?) batches. Looking forward to some variation.
Will be following this with much interest!

Hiya Martin,
I'm just catching up with things on here. Did you get this one finished?
Keep up the good work!
Cheers,

Will be interesting to see this one emerge Martin, I do like a bit of Tractor action. I have a couple of T's going through the paintshop at the moment so i'm looking forward to getting those finished....
Did you ever get 37098 finished?
Cheers

I'm not sure if you finished on the old thread but has the ews 37 been finished?
And yes that helps alot.
Lukasz
EWS one?... If you mean the base model of 37411 which is becoming sister 412 then yes progress has been made on this one. It is now ready to enter the paint shop and will be painted alongside 37904... They are in the same base livery after all, albeit 37412 which requires Transrail logos.
Not sure if that one is justified a thread of it's own as it was more of a detail and repainting project rather than a heavy conversion as with the Slug.
Glad I could help.
Cheers.

What was the donor model for the project?
Are you going to use cast bogies for the loco as you did for the dutch 37?
It looks like a really lovely piece of work.
Lukasz
Hi Lukasz,
Thanks the kind comment
The donor model was 37672 in Transrail livery, unless you change the bonnet side grilles it is only suitable for doing 37904.
This model doesn't require cast bogies so I won't be going down the same route as per my dutch model of 37012.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.

Nice work on those James,
I too like the Bachmann model and like you I only own three at the moment... 08664, 09017 and 09105...
I'm really tempted to give these a slight reworking having seen this now.
Have any details on the revised under cab pipework you mentioned? I think there was also an article in RM about doing this mod but I'm not sure I have it.
The bachy model is good, but I think my next gronk project will be a Hornby model though...
Cheers

Alex,
Those are in fact steel Blooms as opposed to slabs, if you examine the second prototype pic carefully you can see they are a square'ish section and are roughly half the length of a slab loaded in two halves, looks like three across. Thus giving you twelve Blooms per wagon....
You should be able to get plastic section in a similar size to model them for your train.

Hi Wayne,
Any progress on the layout?
I was wondering which gantry crane kit you have?
I quite like the look of the old Lima kit (I believe Hornby are marketing it now?).
From the piccies I've seen - It looks like it could be easily modified or re-configured, to give you a model with a difference. All the essential details seem to be there, so it could even be the basis for a completely different-looking crane.
Keep us posted
Marc
Hiya Marc,
Yes I've made some progress but I want to make some more before it goes in front of the camera, what I do need to do is go to maplins and get some DPDT sliding swithes so I can get some wire in tube points fitted.
Once Ive done this and I can finish the track laying (not much left to do) and then I'll get the camera out.

Hello,
Nearly there with this one now, It'll soon need a trip to the paintshop...
I'll post an update when it is finished.
Cheers

Looking good as usual Martin
I look forward to seeing what you follow this one up with.

Hi Wayne,
Glad to see you're keeping this one going.
If I was looking to do something else in 4mm, I think I would have chosen something like this.
Your weathering continues to impress!
...Now you must get on with the layout!
I'll help you operate it, at next years Cardiff show.....
Marc
Thanks Marc,
Glad you found it ok, I'm trying as best I can to keep this one going, to be honest I'm still 100% convinced of the new blog style but hey it'll grow on me I guess.
Thanks for the kind words on the weathering
The plan now is to make some good progress on the layout, I'll be doing this in the evenings over the coming week. I even have a gantry crane kit to modify now, so stand by for a bumper update on progress towards the middle of the week
Regarding the next Cardiff show - that's some way off yet, not even sure the layout will be good enough to exhibit, time will tell as I make progress I guess
PS: I'll see if I can pop over for a propper look at Brachty Bridge tomorrow.
Cheers

Hi Marc,
Glad to hear that Roath Minor will be at Cardiff, I'll be sure to pop over for a chat...
Have you any new pics that you could post up? It's always good to have something to look at.
Cheers,
Wayne... Who's finally making good progress with Dragon Steels

Hi Wayne
Would in not be easier to make a new side from scratch than to try and strip the parkside one? Its only a rectangle of plasticard surely? Perhaps starting with just a chassis from parkside.
Cheers
Jim
Hi Jim,
You're probably right, however there is a method to my madness in using the Grampus body. The new reinforcememnt follows the pattern of the original Grampus albeit slighty heavier and I didnt fancy trying to figure out the locations from scratch, not having any dimensions or drawings.
Also I've had some problems with scratchbuilt thin sides warping, this is one reason for my Zander project being slow going. The parkside plastic seemed to be slightly stronger so I opted for stripping the Grampus body. Also I would still require the lower parts for a scratchbuilt effort, so for me it seemed easier to just use this spare kit... It wasn't doing anything else anyway.
Cheers,
