  1. Afternoon sir. Thanks, I'm hoping this won't take as long as some of my other efforts as I really don't want to fall into the trap of getting stuck at the track stage again as that's what tends to hold me up. The B2 is a nice model and is the first steam loco I've ever purchased for myself, I had a good look around at the Cardiff show and this was the cheapest one I could find but for £20 less than the retail price it seemed a decent deal to me. Other locos on the list at some point will be a J94 'Austerity' and an ex GWR 'Pannier' tank, along with an 0-4-0 Peckett perhaps and later a hired in BR class 08. Wayne
  2. Evening Rob, Nice as always to catch up at the shop, I've been back a few pages in this thread and things seem to be ticking along nicely. As I said, I've started the board for my NCB project and it now has a thread on here. If you ever get bored enough to read my junk then I'll post the link below and I'll look forward to any sage advice or input, thoughts, opinions, abuse etc that you may be able to offer. Cheers, Wayne
  3. Hello there, It's been quite some time since I posted anything on here, as usual work and life in general get in the way. This coupled with my father passing away in November last year has meant I've had little time or inclination for modelling, despite the fact that it's my usual escape from the stresses of life. Anyway let's not get bogged down, what's this all about... For some years I've had an interest in industrial steam, mostly in collieries and I've quite fancied the idea of a small layout depicting a similar theme. This is totally new to me as I'm normally a purely diesel era modeller, but it never hurts to dip a toe in some new water so here goes. A start has been made on the baseboard, this uses up some scraps of Ply that I had languishing in the cupboard left from other projects. On the weekend of the Cardiff show I purchased my first ever steam loco, a B2 class Peckett 0-6-0 saddle tank. The idea is to depict just a small slice of the once very active South Wales coal industry, as I write this there is only one regular source of coal left in the area now and that will soon come to a halt and become yet another piece of railway history. I won't ramble on too much, but I'll explain more as I go. This is intended to be a winter project and I really hope it won't take as long as previous layouts as more are waiting in the ideas bank. Back soon, Wayne
  4. Evening Rob, Good to see you again the other day. Uckfield sounded like a great show. Ewe is looking good, nice to see some diesel traction make an appearance. Look forward to seeing more.
  5. Hi Kevin, Yes likewise, good to see and chat to you again as well. I hope you weren't too bored watching the odd wagon being kicked about. Cheers
  6. Evening Rob, Thank you for your condolences, it means a lot mate! Wayne.
  7. First of all, apologies for quiet lack of happenings on this thread since the last post (although, sometimes a break isn't unusual here). Following my tutorial on scenery with @NHY 581 on 15th September I was hoping to get the rest of Trevanna's upgrade finished. However some extra shifts at work got in the way, then as October started my Father became unwell and was later admitted to Hospital. After a six-week brave battle, we sadly lost him on the afternoon of the 27th of November. Naturally things have been a huge combination of emotions recently as we finalise arrangements. Anyway, I just wanted to say that and I'm hoping to return soon as many projects as usual remain unfinished. So, if anyone is hopefully still following this thread, I thank you for your patience and if anyone knows me personally, then I hope you'll understand why I haven't been in touch for a while. Cheers, Wayne
  8. Hi Chris, Great article on PMB in the BRM. I don't often get this mag, but I'll pick it up if something takes my fancy. Hope to see the layout in the flesh at some point. Cheers, Wayne
  9. Hi Rich, Hope the Taunton show goes well. Sadly, I can't make it as I'm working on the big railway all weekend. It's a shame as it would have been nice to catch up. Cheers, Wayne
  10. Crikey! It's been a while since I posted in here, sincere apologies to anyone out there who might be remotely interested in the layout. Today was a breakthrough day! Before that though I took Trevanna to the Cardiff show on the 21st of August, I should have been there Saturday as well but there was a cock up in work with my leave. It felt great to get back into exhibiting after three years due to Covid and it was brilliant to catch up with friends again, sadly I didn't get any invites for other shows but hopefully that allows time to finish other layouts. Anyway, back to today. A start was made in upgrading the scenery on the layout as the old stuff was starting to look a bit tired. I've done very little with static grass before apart from a little play at home with a cheap electric tea strainer applicator and as such I must give a big thanks to modelling pal Rob @NHY 581 for his assistance with this, I've always liked the way Rob approaches the scenery on his layouts, and although we both model very different eras the skills and techniques apply all the same. I'll post a picture in the next day or two as I have some fettling to do first. Thanks again Rob! 👍
  11. Rob, One thing I forgot to ask at the Cardiff show was how you wire up your layouts on a solid board? As I'm getting tempted to try a 'Lack' based scheme myself it was something I was pondering, I'm guessing here but do you just run wires through channels cut into the board and then cover everything over later? Wayne
  12. Rob, Some interesting plans there. Nice to see that a class 14 will be joining the stud at some point, I think it'll look quite at home doing a spot of shunting. I agree with your view on green diesels, as I said at the Cardiff show there's something about a loco in BR green livery when it gets a bit dirty. Wayne.
  13. Hi Rob, No problem on the driving, I rarely turn down the chance to have a drive of another layout for a bit. That would be great thanks, I have some leave next month so might aim to get it done then. Cheers, Wayne
  14. Hiya Rob, Nice to see Sheep Dip yesterday and to catch up. I can't believe that was my first show in 3 years! Really liked the 08. You should be really pleased with how that turned out, I still can't believe it's mostly weathered with powders. Thanks for the chat about all things grassy and bushy too, I was only joking when I said you can do mine but if you ever have time for a little tutorial.😉 Cheers,
  15. Hiya Rob, Nice to see Bleat Wharf and have a brief catch up at Penarth Saturday morning. It would have been nice to stay longer but a 10hr shift starting at 1400 beckoned. I like the hardstanding with some old cobbles showing through, a nice touch. Here's a couple pics anyway. Tidy layout sir.👍
  16. Very nice James. More 90s locos in proper liveries to look at. 😎
  17. Nice work James. You just know that the sector 60 is right up my street, but being a WR region man I do like the Transrail scheme too. 60054 Charles Babbage lasted a long in petroleum livery, have you ever been tempted? There's always room for more sector locos! 😎 Cheers, Wayne
  18. Nice purchase James. I'm not sure if Marcus posts much on here, but he's a friend of mine so can pass on your thanks if you like. Cheers, Wayne
  19. Thanks, but it's 651 I'll be doing as it worked in the yard that was local to me. Cheers
  20. Yes thanks, it's a great little layout, perfect for me to have a little in 7mm I do need to build a bit more stock though.
  21. Hi Brian, I've just come back to this thread after searching to see if s PWM had been done in 7mm. One of these would fit in great on the South Wales based yard layout I acquired from Marc Smith last year. Yours looks really good in yellow. I'd also go with yellow so it fits my later time period of the early 90s. I haven't yet looked to see if the kit is still available, but what was it like to build? I must confess to not having done a great deal of building stuff from brass. Cheers, Wayne
  22. Does anyone want to see more 37s? How many is too many? As someone who grew up with 37s in South Wales, you can never have too many! I remember them being on almost every freight in the early 1990s, apart from the odd 47 and occasional 56 turn. Then the 60s arrived and the 37s relegated to less arduous freight workings. Nice job on these un-refurbished type 3s James.
  23. The job can be interesting but also stressful at times, particularly with the dreaded Coronavirus situation and all the cancellations due to train crew having to isolate. Your new job sounds interesting, I know someone who was a self employed advisor but I gather she's gone into partnership and formed a small business now. I know what you mean about the metals livery, it's one of my favourite sectors. No problem on the 'tip-off' as I thought it might be of interest. I've since watched it again and the train was the Purley - Acton stone empties, the clip was filmed at South Croydon and the defective train loco was 58048.... Grid 61 to the rescue!
  24. Hi Rob, Nice progress on Ewe there, I must say you don't hang about. I really must get my finger out and crack on with stuff. At the moment I'm refurbishing Trevanna Dries, then there's the MK2 version of Dragon Steels to do and after that the Bristol'ish based shunting layout. I'll update the Trevanna thread when I've finished as I'm trying a new approach, rather than posting half finished projects that I don't touch for some time. Cheers, Wayne
