  1. Hi James, Nice work on those two heavyweight machines. 'Cardiff Rod Mill' is on my hit list but when it was carried by 56060 in metals colours, I've already done it's partner 56073 Tremorfa Steelworks. Talking of metals grids, that brings me nicely onto a shot I saw on a Locomaster dvd recently of your very own 56061. It was somewhere on the Southern region dragging a failed EWS 58 hauled stone train formed of a rake of EWS MEA wagons. Nice view from the office by the way, I didn't know you'd changed jobs from BA what are you doing now? In 2018 I got out of the building trade and joined the big railway, although as it's in customer service I don't have a view of any trains like you do, unless I can pop up for a cheeky photo on a break. Cheers, Wayne
  2. Hi Chris, As I said on your group post, if you're happy with the layout then that's what counts. Water and Duck springs to mind.... It would be interesting to see something that's he's built. Cheers.
  3. Ahh yes, involving a propelling move of about two miles if I remember?
  4. Hi treggyman, I've just come across this while googling something else clay related. I'm currently working on refurbishing my Cornish layout Trevanna. I don't have as much space as on Hendra though but I'm in the process of putting things back. Cheers.
  5. I must say they do look good. Although I don't really have a priority need for these, I could go for a couple of Hydro ones for Speedlink use.
  6. Thanks Rob, I'm hoping it will. I've briefly conversed with Kevin previously about it some time ago, but I don't think he had any photos taken there I found one on Flickr and there's a snap of how it looked in steam days on you tube but that's it. Cheers.
  7. I've just had a catch up in this thread, it's surprising what can be done in 7mm in a small space. Towards the end of last year I became the custodian of a small 7mm micro layout. That's an interesting set of photos in the you tube link, shame it didn't show any of St Philips as I'm trying to plan a small layout in 4mm based on the couple of sidings there. From the few photos I've seen it was used by Blue Circle cement, but I'm sure other traffic could be justified. Cheers.
  8. And talking of plain Jane grey 60s I've just come across this taken on the same evening, it looks like it could 60046 'William Wilberforce' heading East with a steel train. Again it's been shot into the sun so pretty crap really, but I was younger then and didn't know a great deal I just pointed the camera and shot.
  9. Hiya James, Nice work again on the 60s, I personally prefer a 60 to have sectors but then I would wouldn't I. Here's my photo of 47114. I've had to take a photo of it with my phone as I can't access the scanner at the moment due to the Christmas tree being in the way. I don't have a date for the photo as I didn't keep notes then, it's also shot into a low early evening sun so of course it won't win any prizes. It's also the only photo I have of 'Freightliner Bulk' so I'll still treasure it. One thing I do like in modelling terms is the visible remains of its former black painted headcode box, the cut away buffer beams and eleptical 'class 60' buffers.... Go on, you know you want to.
  10. Nice work again James, Although my modelling ends at the start of 1996, before the big EWS cull and 'shed' invasion I do enjoy seeing how you capture these still working locos, it's almost as if they're refusing to give up. My favourites have to be the ones still carrying older liveries, who would have they'd be around for so long. If you're looking for an interesting, but odd (in my opinion) freightliner duff to do then how about 114 Freightliner Bulk in green. I've got an old crappy 35mm shot of it I took at Newport once somewhere. Cheers.
  11. Hi James., Did I read that right, 40 locos done since January? You've been busy, I need to pull my finger out. These have turned out nice James. I know what you mean about Hornby's take on railfreight triple grey, I plan to re-visit my model of 56073 at some point. It was done as a ' quick n dirty' from a coal sector machine, but when I compare it to my other sector locos I'm not happy with it. Cheers.
  12. Good to see the latest installment Richard. I've been following the whole process from the start and in particular like what you've done with the scenery as this is a weak point of mine. The scenic breaks looks good and I like the little detail of the location cabinet gantry set into the embankment. It reminded me that there's one near me on a local commuter line so I thought you might like to see it. I also took a photo of one of the many types of greaser as well. Cheers.
  13. Thanks kev. The original builder suggested I should start from scratch but I wanted to try and keep the character of this layout. I'm hoping to get more done on my rest days from work, but at the moment the car has decided to break on me. Cheers.
  14. I can't see why the same wouldn't work for the flat tarpaulins no, in fact I recently used the same method for a tarpaulins cover on a waste skip that I built as you can see in the photo. I'm hoping to put together a little something on how I did the hoods after Christmas.
  15. You're spot on, the thin card ones provided are not convincing at all that's why I fitted a plasticard frame support inside the wagon and used the aircraft modelling tissue paper. You then apply a liquid to the paper (strangely called dope) which shrinks it and produces folds and creases just like a real tarpaulin. Once painted and weathered they much better.
  16. For the clay wagon hoods I'd use tissue modelling paper. That's how I did my set of ten wagons and I also used the Ratio kit as it's better than the Bachmann, I then set about improving them further.
  17. A quick photo of the finished skip now that it's painted up, just a small bit of weathering but that'll be done when it's planted. You can just make out that it actually has some bin bags in it, as it'll be near the front of the layout it made sense to have some visible as an empty skip wouldn't look 'right' to me.
  18. Hiya Rob, I've just had a quick catch up on here, nice to see you've joined the DCC club. Did I see that you have an NCE Power Cab? That's what I use and I find it nice and simple and user friendly, how are you getting on with it? Nice to see some early diesel power on the layout as well.
  19. In October I decided that I would give Trevanna a refurbishment, mainly because some of the scenery was looking a bit tired and things were starting to fall off. I also wanted to make a slight change to the clay works to hopefully enlarge it a little to allow a bit more to be seen, this would also mean I could put my own 'stamp' on it. As part of this I've been putting together some detailing bits and pieces, the first of which was this rubbish skip and some barriers made from scrap bullhead rail.
  20. Hi Chris, Nice idea with the throttle holders, I need to get round to sorting that for my layouts. I usually just rest my throttle (also NCE power cab) on the keg frames but it has dropped to the floor a couple of times at shows. It'd be nice to hear a bit more about your card system, has it changed much from when I operated Dock Street at Thornbury? Cheers.
  21. Damn! If only you could tie your shoelaces with DCC when I was a kid as it did take me a little while to learn. I'll get my coat...
  22. Yeah, same here. Looks like it was a good weekend Chris. Hopefully the shows will continue to return. Cheers
  23. Hi Chris, Now that I've finally had chance to read it, good article in the modeller. I was hoping to get over to Thornbury for a closer look but I'm now working 12hr shifts both days. Hopefully I'll get chance to see it at some point. Have a good show.
  24. Hi John, I've seen mention elsewhere that you might also have some of AME's transfers range? Cheers
  25. Another tidy, from another Welshman. Looks good Chris. I'll have to pick up a copy, haven't had a good read about a layout in a mag for some time. Cheers.
