  1. Good evening, Progress is continuing at a steady pace and tonight I have continued with the 'groundwork' by working at the road bridge end of the layout. The inspiration for this area came from a pic posted by Brian Rolley on Marc Smith's thread. Below is the photo I have been looking at (hope you dont mind me posting this Brian?) however my bridge will be different to the one in the photo.
  2. Yes indeed, also remember when they were first intorduced to South Wales and my only trip on the old order which was a Derby Suburban class 116. Seconded! I have a small rake of TTAs to play with at some point.
  3. Hi James, Just echoing others about the TEA, nice work indeed. I'll nip over to your website when I have five minutes and have a read through. Cheers,
  4. Hi, Just a quickie update on this. As of this evening, the last remaining section of track has now been laid and wired, testing has been completed with no major problems to iron out.. This means I can now start some groundwork, in particular the right hand end of the layout at the road bridge. I've already placed some 'land' to give me an idea but I'll be looking for some pointers and opinions on this before I do anything permanent. I'm hoping to have a pic or two posted up during the coming week (providing I can get my charger). Cheers,
  5. This might be worth a look.... http://www.depotplaques.com/
  6. Thats a Toton depot plaque. No longer around as far as I know, however I'm happy to be corrected. Indeed. If I'm correct, 56031-115 were built at Doncaster. Hope that helps. Cheers
  7. Has almost finished wiring and laying the track!

I've "almost finished" everything.... but "actually finished" not very much! lol

  8. Regarding using 56032 as a base model, while it's true that it will avoid a complete repaint. Trying to remove the etched nameplates without damaging the surrounding paintwork will be 'fun' to say the least. Especially considering the large size of them. Cheers
  9. Your welcome Neil, 20p are there any left? I must get a few more to go with the two I already have. Not as easy to come by in original livery now though it seems, so it looks like I'll have to paint them up. Cheers
  10. Neil, Some nice weathering on the MEAs, looks like Cav has taught you well. It's a shame that the lettering has vanished during the weathering process though. Sometimes for factory painted RTR wagons I will use a coat of Matt varnish over the wagon to seal the lettering in before weathering. Not every item of stock gets so treated, it depends on the printing method used. Maybe that might be worth a try? Cheers
  11. Thanks for the kind words guys, it really does help to keep morale up knowing that people are interested out there. The support is very much appreciated. SUCCESS.... A quick bit of news while I'm typing this out. I've just finnished off testing the first bit of wired in track using what will probably become the resident shunting loco for the time being. That means that the bit of line can now be permanantly laid down as opposed to before where I had my track layout as I wanted it but it was merely laid loose. More to come soon. Cheers
  12. Evening chaps, Haven't forgotten about this, I'm just getting on with the wiring at the moment but I'll have something worth getting the camera out for soon. Cheers
  13. Hi James, Good to see you over here. Like Peter I also still visit your website now and then to see whats been happening. It's great to see the 377 finished and in action. It's a lovely looking model. What else have you been up to? Keep up the good work. Cheers
  14. Godd evening, 37412 is coming on nicely, it's nice to see her in her old colours. I currently have a 412 WIP which will be modelled in her Transrail days. Following with interest.
  15. Hi Neil, Looks pretty good. One thing i would suggest however would be wash over the dirt on the RES NBA, this would then leave it recessed in the roller shutter doors. Purely a suggestion, otherwise good work. Cheers
  16. cue embarassed smiley I've just been reading back through the Aberdeen Kirkhill thread and have just seen the section on the wheel lathe. Apologies to flood. Cheers,
  17. Hi Grimley, Blimey the model of the wheel lathe is looking good. Not seen something like that tackled on a depot layout before. Will be following this with interest. Cheers
  18. Trying to get the layout wired... Arghh!

  19. Thanks Mick, It's been going on for ages this layout. Is it possible to take this long over building a micro layout!? I've been following the progress of New Bryford with much interest. it's really looking good. Once I get my camera back up and running I'll be back here with a bumper update. The board and layout have changed quite a bit compared to the old archive photo I posted in the OP. Cheers,
  20. Thanks Neil, The buildings will all be low relief structures based around various steelworks buildings (many thanks to Brian R for the CD of pics!). I made a start on these some time ago and I'm hoping to show them soon. One building will be a covered loading/unloading 'shed' for want of a better word, this forms part of a much larger building. The rest of which is off scene. The plan for the scenery is to try and capture the rugged, grimy, run down looking nature of a steelwroks site. I'm hoping to have plent of junk dotted around as well. The area below the track at the front was going to have some of bank sloping down as I'd like to get some greenery in there as well. We'll see about that when we get there though. Thanks for looking. I hope you'll be back when it's updated. Cheers,
  21. Good morning, This thread will hopefully show the progress of my small shunting layout themed around a steelworks based in South Wales. This will be my first attempt at this type of layout and I thought I would tell my story here and share it with anyone else out there who may be looking into this kind of layout. I've become attached to them in the last couple of years. Those who have seen the likes of Marc Smith's Hendre Lane and Wales, Rails, Rain and Steel for example will know what can be achieved in a small space, even in OO gauge. The idea for this layout started way back towards the end of 2009 when i stripped some pallets for the timber to use as frames (I was on a tight budget!), then I had remembered two spare boards up in the attic which I had built for another project that quite frankly wasn't going to happen. Then having seen what Marc did with Hendre gave me the idea for something smaller and at the same time I realised that I had more steel traffic related rolling stock compared to other stuff. Bingo! The idea for a steelworks theme was born, this layout uses just one scenic board out of the two bare boards. Cheers,
  22. Looking good in the dark Neil. I haven't thought about lighting much on my layouts as I'm not really an electronics man, but I think I'll look into it now. Look forward to seeing more.
  23. Very nice, Wasn't even aware of a PAA kit. Who are these made by? Look forward to seeing the finished article. Cheers
  24. Hi Marc, I've just come out of the attic having been juggling around my buildings on Dragon Steels (still dont know if that's going to be the actual name yet! Thoughts!?). I'm puzzling over what to do for one of my scenic breaks. The right hand side of the layout has a road overbridge and the left side part of a rail served loading/unloading shed. Would you by any chance have a pic showing the end of yours where you have your rail connected shed? I'm just wondering how you blended it in as that was one of the things puzzling me and stalling my progress amongst other things. We should defo arrange that beer soon too? Cheers
