  1. Wow Phill, only just caught up with this modification. I like it, I look forward to the detail going on and i am also looking forward to Western Trooper arriving on a " specials ".
  2. OK i have been in the garden today and made some progress. Although most of the work done was general gardening i managed to re-instate the bridge over the underpass. I still need to add some detail and re-spray but at least its back to its normal position and not in the shed. I have fastened the bridge sides to the pieces of timber which are fastened to the concrete blocks using a alluminium L section. Plus using a piece of C section with a strip of plastic cut from a left over piece of fasia inserted into the C i have screwed the top edges of bridge . Also the general gardening has been to cut back and eventually remove the shrubs that were immediately behind the "Beggasons Gold" plants that were creating the embankments to the railway. This has opened it right up and given the railway more light. I still have roots to dig out and some more tidying up before i can start planting again. I have also been laying concrete blocks to make the steps higher which leads to the decking path at the side of the pond. Now the reason for the increase of height to these steps is so that when the railway curves round the pond and crosses the path over to the side that follows the fence up the garden, you just cross the tracks at top step height as opposed to having to " step over" the railway. I hope this has'nt confused anyone but i dont have any pics to help with the explanation. Thats All for now Rob
  3. Foundations were 12 inches deep. The mix for the pillars was 2 x bag of Wickes building sand to 1/2 bag of cement plus a 1/3 of a bag of pea gravel. I also put metal bar in top and bottom ends , bottom so it had no chance of getting knocked over and top for the arch sections to have something for the concrete to key to. Rob
  4. Those pics look great Phill. Any progress on the viaduct and line alteration.?
  5. OK Some major work on the railway took place yesterday and boy was it hard work. It saw the first stages of the concrete viaduct going into place. I first drilled two holes into the concrete pads in the ground. This is for the two metal bars at the bottom of each pillar fix to the ground adding strength. There are 7 pillars which are 25 inch between each other. However as you can see in the pics there are only 6. This is because when i came to fix that particular pillar i hadn't drilled the holes far enough over so the front edge/face didn't line up with the others. Oh well i will re-drill and fit that one another time along with the half pillars that sit on the dwarf wall next to the pond. Once the remaining pillar and half pillars are in sittu then i can start to take the measurements and look at making the frame/mould that will sit on top of these pillars to form the arches and track bed. I am very happy i have got as far as i have with this as really it was a two man job but the weather was good and i wanted to "get on " with more progress of the railway. Its another step towards having a complete cicuit around the garden. The only stumbling block at the moment is needing another sheet of Medite Tricoya at £100 per sheet. Still it wont be long before i can order that. Thats all for now , hope you like and i will post more pics when i have progressed more. Toodle Pip Rob
  6. Progress report. I have been in the garden over the last week or so, on and off after work /weekends etc and have made some more progress. First i have laid roofing felt around the curve and as far as the boards go. ( this is about 6' from where the viaduct will start.) I have now laid track accross the bridge and around the curve. I have also used a camber . This was done by placing a 10mm strip of roofing felt tucked under the outer rail and flush to the edge of the sleepers. will post more pics as progress continues. The next stage will be to fasten board "off cuts" to the section around the pond. Then put roofing felt on this. The wire fence/mess is just a temporary measure to keep my little helper OFF the garden and from trashing the new plants. This will of course be removed once they have got themselves established. Rob
  7. Hi Ian, Good to hear from you . I hope your on the mend. If you scroll to the top of this page it shows a pic taken from a back bedroom window and you can make out where the railway runs around the garden.
  8. Mmmm looks very nice.
  9. This is just the first stages of build. The soil will be topped up then planting up to just below track level. I have made a little more progress but no pics of anything worth posting. Rob
  10. Hi Martin. You can programme up to 99 loco's with any one hand unit. But for example if there are two people operating with seperate hand units then you have to make sure they are not controlling the same number ( if number 06 is in use by say controller 1 then there cant be another loco that has been programmed 06 being used or both will function at the same time.) Another example lets say ; I could take any of my locos that are R/C to anyone else's layout and operate with my hand unit . Just have to make sure that there are'nt two loco's with the same programmed number. ( Each hand unit, and they all operate the same , can programme/operate from 01 to 99. It doesnt matter how many hand units are being used but again no two locos with the same programme number can operate at the same time.) So if there are several friends going to be operating then just check what numbers are being used. Hope this helps. Rob
  11. No mate it is just the angle of the pic. Well no progress to be made today. Absolutely p******g it down . Typical.!! Well looks like i will have to do some more work on my mk2's and TPO's. Rob
  12. Progress up-date. 12/6/15 Today i have been outside and i have made some more progress on the railway. Here are some pics to show what i have done. I have drilled the posts and bolted the brackets, cut the 4x2 timber to slot in between each post. Then the board has been cut at the angles required to create the curve. This has been done from the board just after the underpass as far as where the viaduct will take the track accross to the edge of the pond. Unfortunately i have run out of board with 1 piece to compltet this section. However i will need to order another sheet so that it can be cut into 5 strips allowing me to join up with the boards that run behind the greenhouse. I am really close now to a complete circuit . Next job will be to lay the roofing felt on the uncovered boards. The next pic shows the concrete pillars that have been cast to be used on the viaduct. There are 8 complete and 2 that broke. I need 13 all together and once i have them i will allign them and set in concrete so they are all at the same height/level. Once this has been done i will then sort the arches. This will be achieved by making sides of the viaduct with the bottom of the arches in a framework/mould so that concrete can be filled into it to form the top part in situ. And finally a pic of my little helper. lol Thats all for now. Rob
  13. Hi Martin, I am one of Phill's friends that has had the disasterous results. So if you opt for the Phenolic ply then please make sure it is the proper stuff. Although the stuff i used was from a reputable timber merchants and had " quality premium " printed on it. . I have now used Medite Tricoya which is exterior MDF. Yes i know that just doesnt sound right but it seems to be ok so far. The first lot of boards have been out since September of last year and "touch wood" there havent been any problems. I too use the Red Arrow equipment. IMO it is definately the way to go for out door use. No wiring of track, no electrical maintainence outside. I only have a bubblecar and a western that are R/C fitted at the moment but later in the year should see another western and a peak done. I too look forward to seeing your garden railway, so hope you sort the posting pics problem. Rob. Beee Barrrp Happy Modelling.
  14. Been out in the garden this weekend and managed to do quite a bit. Some on the railway , some not but its all outside so its progress. Just for theroputic reasons here are some pics. Rob
  15. Keith, i am new to garden railways and it is taking time to build. But mine is geting there and you are right there is nothing better than watching trains run round in the sun with a drink. I cant wait for the day when i can do that in my own garden. Soon it will happen . I am just about to post a few pics of a train in the garden ( Outdoor Railway section ).....................although its not moving it is very inspirational just posing. Rob
  16. Hi CME, Dont know whats happen hear. But i have missed your thread since you had "issues" with your board and were in the process of re-fitting new ones. Crickey you have been busy, or have i lost a few months. Its looking amazing now. I hope the new stuff gives you plenty of running time. Rob
  17. That is going to look amazing Phill. I have just ordered my reinforcing bar/rod . I have now decided to cast the pillars in sittu as opposed to casting them then fitting them. ( Still in discussions with my engineer ). Looking forward to the next lot of pics. Rob
  18. Great footage. Thankyou for sharing. There is some very nice footage on the WR at various locations. There is a very interesting shot in the first film about 17mins in of a Warship at Teignmouth. The last coach is an LNER Gresley buffet in maroon along with a mix of blue/grey and maroon mk1's. I already have a blue/grey Gresley buffet ...............mmmmm wonder if i should have a maroon ???? Rob
  19. Great pics Phill, This keeps inspiring me to get into the garden and make some more progress on my garden railway. Keep them coming. Rob...... Beee Barrrrp
  20. Ive made some more progress on the peak. This time its on the bogies. I have started to add the pipework which lives just above the bogies and is quite prominent when viewing from the side. I haven't took any pics yet but will do so when ive added a few more pipes . I have also been working on the cut n shut of 4 more Mk2 TSO's and an FK again i will take some pics soon. Rob.
