  1. The original Co-Bo project was done by a member of our group and he said it was based on an Australian Metro-Vicks, I just took it and converted it to a Zimo project. I will do some furhter investigation. Peter
  2. I'd better make sure I bring my sound programmer then. Peter
  3. I have just uploaded a quick video of my Class 28 to YouTube to give an idea of the sound. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzoue0DN3n4 Peter
  4. When I ordered my Co-Bo's when they were announced I asked if they would make sure there was enough room for a sound decoder and speaker, it seems whilst I have been able to fit a speaker they haven't left enough room for your average decoder never mind a sound decoder. Well not wanting to be defeated I have tried the following method of fitting a sound decoder just under the motherboard on top of one of the bogies, it seems to work OK and the body fits back on! I made a small plasticard shelf to stop the chip touching the crank shaft. A Soundtraxx 23mm Mega Bass Speaker sealed in with bath seal Before fitting the body back on I will do some testing and it may need refining but it may be a solution to the problem. Peter
  5. One of the pictures I posted on my Holcombe Brook and Tottington thread. Peter
  6. This is the sound project in one of my Silver Fox models, because of the empty body I was able to use a bigger speaker. I will video one of my Heljan installations for comparison. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4Gls6iszhU Peter
  7. I picked up my 3 Co-Bo's this aftertoon from Hatton's. I bought 5700, 5705 & 5708 (weathered). I have fitted 5705 with a sound chip using a project using recordings of the Australian Metro-Vicks, The body is not easy to get off and the white pipes were easily knocked off and one of the tanks so these had to be glued back on, unfortunately I didn't reaslise I got some glue on my finger and I caught two patches on the body so some slight damage to the paintwork on the roof and on one of the sides, so I think this will be a candidate for weathering! Peter
  8. I've just had a phone call from Hattons to say my order will be ready to pick up after 1600! Peter
  9. I rang Hattons this morning and was told it will be later this week. Peter
  10. I rang Hattons earlier and it's looking more likely tomorrow rather than today. Peter
  11. Sorry but I only took the information from the video clip in the post which stated it was built by David Hampson. I have not seen David for a while and I was going to contact him to check the background of the layout but I have no need as you've found out the history. David has built an excellent new layout 'Oldham King Street Parcels' which attended our Exhibition last year and won best DCC Layout. Peter
  12. The O Gauge Oldham King Street layout was built by David Hampson, one of the orginal members of the LYDCC group. http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=7999829089703954294 Peter

  14. Having done a little research according to Stewart Brown in Greater Manchester Buses the general renumbering came in 1973, but a friend who lived in Chadderton said it was 1974 which could be when SELNEC became GMT. At this time the 90 was reumbered 23, 2 the 181/182 and 3 the 403. Numbers 1-299 were Manchester and Salford Routes 300-699 Local Town Services (Oldham was in the 4xx Prior to this each major town had it's own original service numbers and Salford had their service 90 (Salford to Little Hulton) along side Manchester's 90 and it was not a new service as I thought earlier. Here is a Metrobus on Service 181 at Newhey termius with me at the wheel on a late turn at Hyde Road Depot. We usually got a phone call in the Schedules Office at Birchfields Road looking for volunteers to do a late shift, I got paid for driving buses! The novelty wore off when I did a stint full time! Peter
  15. From memory the 90 service was renumbered to 23 in the big SELNEC service renumbering in the 1970's when the new 90 was a service from Manchester Greengate to Little Hulton, a joint service with LUT. I used that service qutie a lot going to my Aunty in Little Hulton. Peter
  16. When I worked in the East Area Offices of Greater Manchester Transport I use to work on Saturdays at Northenden Garage on the 1500 spare and drove the 44 on many occasions, so apologies if I ever kept you waiting! The joys of being a bus driver!! LOL! From memory Selnec/GMT swtiched between using the terms Depot and Garage on a couple of occasions, usually during a management reorganisation and I think in tram days in Manchester a Depot was for trams and a Garage was for buses. Peter
  17. Excellent! I presume the workshop is the Car Works on Hyde Road, the buses parked outside are at Parrs Wood Garage and the last inside shot is what would have been a fairly new Northenden Garage. Peter
  18. I forgot to add that I took Rederring over to a friends for a test run and he ran one of his converted 3 rail Hornby Dublo steam locos on it with no problems! Peter
  19. I used Tillig track on my first layout 'Rederring' as I was very imprerssed with the points and as my local shop was selling off his stock at half price I decided to give a try. It is very delicate and I have had problems with the double slip and this has been replaced once but the main cause of this was my initial inexperienced "ham fisted" approach to track laying and I also used the foam underlay used under laminate flooring as I thought cork would be too hard. That was a big mistake as the points are so delicate and the foam too soft with hindsight I should have used cork, in fact I have replaced sections with cork where I had running problems. I want to build another layout and having learnt a lot from building Rederring I will stick with Tillig and use cork and I will use Pete Harveys sleeper spacer to make the sleeper spacing more prototypical. Isn't it about time the manufacturers produced more accurate looking UK track? Tiilig is the only one who currently produce realistic looking points without those hideous joins in the blades, the likes of Hornby go to great lengths to produce accurate fine detailed models yet has track that doesn't offer anything near the same approach to accuracy! Isn't it about time for a "Campaign for Real Rail"? Peter
  20. Yes this project is based on the Australian Crossleys, the nearest we will get until D5705 is up and running. Peter
  21. Just ordered mine so it's time to 'Fire up the Co-Bo' sound project and do some more work on it! This is the original version on ESU Loksound chip, I have subsequently done a Zimo version with a bigger bass speaker. Peter
  22. I was told first quarter 2011 by Hattons today. Peter
  23. That is a special edition model I bought the standard production model, I ordered at Kidderminster after riding and recording the real version, it cost ??130. Peter
  24. Hi James, The model has nameplates printed on but you also get an etched plate too. I doubt any money will go to the real thing unless you buy the model from the A1 Trust. I did this, I could have got it cheaper at my local model store but the profit was going to a good cause, you also get a special A1 Trust headboard. Regards, Peter
  25. Just an update on the SPAD situation, the driver had been disciplined and has been taken off driving duties to paint rust on the track! Peter
