  1. You can actually convert this Class 11 to EM by simply moving the Heljan wheels out to EM back to back, and they run perfectly well.......I've done it! You will have to move the side frames out, but that is not a problem. Remove the brake sand bins from the outside of the side frames, they just need prizing off as they have two pins holding them on. Under each of them is a screw. Undo the four screws, and the frames will lift off, although the front footsteps will probably need removing and moving out a touch too.

  3. Hi Paul, thanks for that good video! Can you tell me what the axle diameter is on the loco? I fancy getting one and converting to EM. Pete Hill
  4. What do you mean? Expo EM is not late or missing! Both the May Bracknell ExpoEM and the August Wakefield Expo EM are still ongoing since lockdowns.
  5. Yes, that was quite funny building it around him! Pete
  6. Hi T-b-g, Was Roy's workbench shed (in the shed) built when you first came? That was around 2004 when I did that. Pete
  7. That video is exactly as I first met Roy at Retford! Operation boards outside at the front, minimal fiddle yards and hardly any scenic areas. The basic grounding around the flat crossing was started by Richard Nice and myself, then T-B-G and Buccaneer John completed the area and started the teddy bear fur work. That is where I met Rich, and became involved in many exhibition operating weekends with his Stainmore Summit. Pete
  8. Greetings! Only just found this layout thread this morning! Knew you were up to something, but this is very impressive. Have a good Christmas too. Pete
  9. Very nice running there John.....looks like you'll need some more trackwork at each end soon! Pete
  10. I'd try ringing Branchlines. Got some Mashima items from them at Expo back in May.
  11. Well, it's typical really. Build your own that no one has ever produced in 4mm, and soon someone proposes an rtr one!
  12. Thanks Paul, and sounds like a fun day then. Hope you did well at Glaisdale!
  13. Hi Paul, what size are the driving axles? Normal Bachmann 3mm hopefully!
  14. Another of my conversions weathered by Tim Shackleton.
  15. Good morning Tony, the tool is called a surface gauge, usually used on a surface plate in true metalworking situations, but for our purposes, a smooth flat surface is good enough. Pete
  16. These coaches have been brought for creating part of a film called The Blitz. Hull Paragon is being used to appear as a London station for the film, according to Look North this evening.
  17. Congratulations Paul, well deserved and also always good to see The Depots too. Pete
  18. Lovely looking loco's Riverside. Can I ask a silly question and ask which manufactures green paint you use for these NER locos?
  19. I didn't think it was a Chippy engine, but it certainly was given to Roy by someone. The painting of it was so good, Roy wouldn't have it repainted into a more apt BR livery. Maybe T-B-G or some of the other Retford mob has a clue. Pete
  20. Er, I think there was a slight exception to that Tony. I believe a former editor of MRJ got away with his over weathering on occasions! Pete
  21. Good evening Tony, yes, it certainly was North Shields that was the reason I went to the MRJ show in Central Hall, but have to agree about the crowding inside the show, and so didn't get a very good view of North Shields. It was certainly a difficult show to move around. I didn't try to see Hursley either, but did manage a good view of Leighton Buzzard and Dunwich. As Chris Penlenton also took North Shields to Newcastle show that same year, I went to see it there and had a much better viewing as well as chatting with him and Dave Bradwell, who had sample etches of his forthcoming J27 kit on the boards hiding the fiddleyard from view. I first saw High Dyke at an Expo EM at Paddington and again at Nottingham . Certainly a good layout. It was sold to a gentleman somewhere aroud Lincoln. Shortley before Roy passed away, my local model shop rang me to ask what, if anything, I knew about a layout called High Dyke! Apparently the chap had passed away, and his daughter had rung my local shop with regards to selling her fathers layout called High Dyke. From the description, it was Roy, Geoff and John's High Dyke. I was given the phone number and after talking with Roy, we contacted Cliff Parsons of AIMREC, who did go and view it, but it was still stored in a poor outbuilding where Roy said they had delivered it. It seemed as though it had never been assembled since he bought it, and had deteriorated quite badly from what Cliff told us. What happened after that, I do not know. Pete
  22. Thanks for those Woodenhead, Looks like no barriers infront of layouts!
  23. Thank you Tony. The tank engine is a Stockton and Darlington banking loco, 4 of which were built for banking on the Skinningrove zig zag incline. The empty space infront of the cab is the coal bunker, and these engines were apparently so heavy they wrecked trackwork and so were rebuilt into the Thomas Bouch style long boiler type tender locos, one of which was used on the Rosedale railway above the Ingleby incline, hence the tender cab, which I am not happy with, so it will get removed, and rebuilt. Pete
  24. Hello Tony, yes, a wet night has been done very well by Jim Smith-Wright on his Brettell Road layout in P4. You should be able to access the thread on the Scaleforum website. https://www.scalefour.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=142&t=3805 Pete
