  1. The first known subway system to install onboard Wi-Fi was the Seoul Metro in 2009.
  2. Congratulations David, well deserved, an excellent, well thought out, beautifully constructed and evocative layout.
  3. It does make the assumption that commuting will be required and who knows if that will be the cases it will certainly be part of the design assuming 5 or 15 minutes everything will be in that range including employment, the exact same repeated for the length of the city not commuting miles. The main critique appears to be that linear is not the answer but the circular, traditional, city uses much more land which is the opposite of the aim of this project as it is planned to conserve energy and resources and cities on the coast tend to be radial from the coast not circular anyway. Who knows what will happen?
  4. Yes. NEOM the new KSA city that is the forerunner test for all future cities as they consume much less land and the city planners are raving about it. I didn't actually make it up nor am I a tinfoil hat wearer just someone who actually takes an interest.
  5. The proposed population density for the new build 5 minute cities is 260,000 people per Sq Km the present population density for London is 5, 596 per Sq KM I personally don't really fancy that.
  6. 150268 at Godnow Bridge which still has a Crossing Keeper working the gates manually, with the Northern Trains 13:42 Doncaster to Scunthorpe service 06/02/2024.
  7. Can only echo what the others have said, I've never been to this exhibition before but I visited today and I will be there next year as it was great mix of fine layouts, traders and demonstrations which kept the attention for a long time in an easily accessible and very suitable venue. Had some of my favourite layouts and from the other ones some new favourites joined the list, enjoyed every minute of being there. well done to the Normanton and Pontefract RMS.
  8. 150/269 at a clean and tidy Brigg station this clear crisp and very cool morning, 18/01/2024, with the once daily train to Cleethorpes , two passengers are joining the train doubling the number of passengers.
  9. 66183 runs around its train at Ely, 2nd September 2022
  10. Cleethorpes today, 4/1/2024, with 158786 waiting to take the 13:20 return to Sheffield via the Brigg to Gainsborough line.
  11. Slightly cooler at Barnetby today I suspect but the only thing about was a 66 loitering in the yard, 66 475, and a stoneblower. needless to say I didn't stay long as the long view shows the weather quite well!
  12. I think it is because cars get written off for panel damage as it can take a long time to get the panels and the cost of a hire car for a long period means that it is cheaper to write off the vehicle. This is then sold through a salvage auction being bought by someone who then finds, removes and recycles the parts from Jim's hire car, for example. onto the damaged car and quickly sells it on.
  13. Labour conference passed the motion the HS2 should be built in its entirety as originally proposed, so it is now presumably Labour policy.
  14. Maybe an answer could be some kind of periscope which would have a similar effect to the method used in Robs written example above, obviously with the danger of the top section having too much close access to the layout?
  15. All British Finescale according to the Scalefour society.
  16. But so does the printed stuff so a close match I suspect and easily dealt with.
  17. What about actual SMP, sold by Marcway, £46.50 for a box of 10 yards according to their website?
  18. EMGS stores has British Finescale B7 double slip and B7 diamond kits in stock now.
  19. Great to see this layout at EMGS Summer exhibition having previously read through the building and development and hoped to see it eventually, ideal for the EMGS to show that you don't need masses of space to build something worth while. It was running really well the times I watched and it is really effective looking very believable and as good, or better, than the photos in real life.
  20. An old 60's city centre building I worked in was converted to student accommodation, I don't know how they get on with the services as the drains were constantly being cleared when the building was only in use for15 hours a day and the windows only sealed at the handles and hinges. happily I moved to another older building around 300M away which was actually a decent place to work.
  21. That really is a cracking view of the layout, it looks far larger than it is, the detail is extremely well observed and as you say the EM gauge shows off to advantage, very, very nice.
  22. Nice to see Hepton Wharf again looking as good as ever, especially with its passenger service.
  23. Apparently:- "This R3 class locomotive was built in 1929 by Peckett & Sons and was delivered new to work at Kilmersdon Colliery which was located between Radstock and Frome in Somerset."
  24. Thank you for pointing out my error, not saying "essentially tax free" as the assumption is that the VAT will be dealt with by the retailer and as you say it isn't a matter of views, but of pedantry. However, since your stated view of what will happen closely aligns with what the Government say is the situation and what I and others have stated was our experience, you and I appear to agree that in the majority of situations no VAT will be collected on packages under £135 which was actually the original question. So pedantry wins.
