  1. Very nice Peter! What livery will it be in? JB B
  2. Looking very promising! Keep up the good work.. JB.
  3. One other improvement I'd make if I may suggest is to reduce the gauge of the footplate etch, it really is far too thick which is why I cut a whole new footplate from sheet brass. JB.
  4. Please note that this is not an exhibition as such, just a Scale7 group meet up. I have also been asked to add that the Scale7 stores will be in attendance. JB.

  6. Oh, I still needed to put a BIG spacer in to bring them out to the edge of the footplate. JB.
  7. Ha, you too found out that the sandboxes are way way too small... In theory the whole shape isn't right. I was tempted to scratch whole new ones, but I too plumped for the castings in the end. JB.
  8. Yep! Really nicely built. As good as, if not better than the prairie. JB.
  9. I kinda went by the fact that both the K1 and L1 were very similar engines, whereas the V1/3 are Gresley engines rather than Thompson.. JB.
  10. I think that would be a good plan David.. Makes a world of difference.. As feared the boiler does slope, and mine doesn't..!! Arghhh! JB.
  11. I really can't remember where I got the backhead castings from now. I would hazard a guess at Laurrie Griffin but I can't be sure, sorry. Deepening the cab door opening makes a massive difference to the look of that area. Some simple milled angle will do the trick. Just need to have the sliding Windows now ... JB.
  12. Hi all, I think Steve is being given a bit of a hard time here for something that seemed to be beyond his control. If you look again at how it happened, the idea was born on the morning and allocation filled by the evening. I'm sure that had the idea not taken off straight away, then the option would have been moved to other formats. As Steve also mentioned, the money hasn't been put down yet, and I know from personal experience that a promise is one thing, and people actually handing the money over is a very different animal. Watch this space and see how it pans out.. JB.
  13. No probs... It took me a long time to work it out, especially as the drawing in the instructions is incorrect as you mention. It wasn't until my dad sent some pictures of the valve gear on the K1 doing the Jacobite up in Scotland that I thought "oh that looks familiar..!" From then on I was checking K1 details and hence the detailing I did on the boiler backhead. JB.
  14. Morning Peter, Yes this was one of the parts that got me for a while, until I realised it's probably very similar to the K1, and used that as a guide, I think I did use the casting, but can't remember at the moment, and the engine is at a friends house.. I also used the K1 as a guide for detailing the backhead. One think I didn't pick up though is that the backhead should have a slope on it looking at some pictures, but I could never be 100% sure. JB.
  15. I can only imagine that the tank handrails had brackets. I could have guessed at how they looked but... I've even spoken to a chap that drove them back in the day, but he really couldn't remember either.. JB.
  16. Start at the begining and work through. Think the L1 starts about page 2 or 3.. http://www.westernthunder.co.uk/index.php?threads/scale7-jb-workbench.124/ You might like the G5 I did too.. JB.
  17. Found a few more, but couldn't find anything of the expansion links.. JB.
  18. Just thinking about it... The one thing that I put the most research time into, but still failed.... The handrail brackets on top of the tanks.. I used plain handrail knobs in the end, but I know they're very wrong..! JB.
  19. Hi Peter, I'm going to have to promise myself I never look at a prototype photo of the L1 ever again. If the cab cutout beading is wrong, "it ain't getting changed now...!". With regard to the lifting link, you're absolutely right about the boss. If you take a look at the finished picture it has all been reshaped correctly. I have to admit I made the valve gear fully reversible with servos between the frames, which work on DCC. I still haven't wired the servo's up, but the expansion rod does travel fully through the expansion link. Yes, the driver springs do need replacing. Again I used castings from Hobbyhorse. I think I may have cut them about a bit to make them shorter, as the driving wheels are quite small. I'm sure Laurrie Griffin would have something suitable. They just need a bit of bidding about. You may actually get away with the brake hanger castings from the kit actually. Mine again has working brakes on servo's and I just knew that the whitemetal versions wouldn't last, so tried to find a brass replacement. The engine is pretty well documented over on Western Thunder, but I'll try and find some inspirational images to post over here.. JB. P.s. Thanks for the compliment!!
  20. Here you go... http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/108026-scorpio-7mm-51xx-by-pad/?st=0 JB.
  21. Hi PAD, well done getting to this point.. It's looking very good indeed! I wasn't so keen on this kit personally, however I was doing a super detailed version of 9000 in Scale7, and start to finish it took me a long time to do. It might be worth mentioning in the instructions that this kit won't cater for the early rounded footplate in front of the cylinder versions without quite a bit of jiggery pokery. However it did turn out quite nicely. One think I would mention is that the brass GWR brake hanger castings from Hobbyhorse castings were a very worthy replacement to the white metal versions in the kit. JB.
  22. Have a chat with Colin Dowling. If he has a set of formers he may be able to profile mill a set of parts for you.. JB.
  23. Looking forward to getting mine, need to hurry though as I think they're selling pretty well.. JB.
