  1. I hope 2024 brings you everything you can reasonably hope for.... and a few projects that get completed!

  2. An excellent day in Lenham yesterday for the French Railways Society annual get together and, apart from one railcar failing (I had a back up)  my small H0 layout performed well and I only had to operate it myself for an hour or so. (Always wise to make layout simple enough to be operated without training.)

  3. I've just realised that I was talking to Thomas O'Halloran outside Tesco where he was playing his accordian just four hours before he was murdered.  I think he must have been on his way home.  I didn't know him but  I used to see him there quite often and had just told him how much I enjoyed his music. The murder itself was only about 500 metres from my home where I often walk and next to the Greenford branch. I'm saddened  and shocked as is the whole neghbourhood.

Our school playing field was at the end of Cayton Road and I used to have to cross Western Avenue to get train from South Greenford halt in the early 60's (no footbridge in those days)

It's a Rugby Club ground now with a park alongside it.

This despicable horrific crime has put Greenford on the national news for all the wrong reasons.

I was born at Perivale Maternity Hospital(long since disappeared) and lived in Greenford for thirty years.Though I've been away from there for many years,I have stacks of happy memories of Greenford, and it saddens me that a crime of this nature could happen in the town where I always felt safe.

Condolences to the family and friends of Mr. O'Halloran.

I passsed an exam in meteorology in 1992 and have  a thermometer in the back garden so am completely qualified to forecast far more accurately than all the Met Office's supercomputers.

The PM programme finally bowed to the inevitable and attempted to fry an egg on the pavement outside New Broadcasting House and on the bonnet of the car of one of the presenters. Thank goodness we don't still have Nationwide which would inevitably have had some hapless presenter from every BBC region also failing to do the same.

I was considering frying the egg on the top of my head - sort of 'egg on egg'

Sorry. Did I read that correctly.

They tried to fry an egg.

      On a radio show?

Seems like a bad yolk to me…

Ref Richard Stilgoe, he did sort of correctly predict the Eurovision winner. He wrote some lyrics which would be understood throughout Europe, some twaddle  about Beefsteak.  When Abba won (either the same year or the following year) it transpired that they too had chosen a lyric that would be understood throughout Europe - Waterloo!

  5. I was taking a couple of friends in Oxfordshire to lunch when local white van man ran into the back of my car at a junction. Drivable home with caution but almost certainly a write off and friends still in Banbury A&E being checked out.

    Bu**er!

When I had a similar experience some years back and my wife developed whiplash quite a few days afterwards and nothing initially the specialist said that was how it normally develops. As such insurance Co’s are usually wary of anybody who claims whiplash injury at the immediate time of the accident I.e. as they exit the vehicle.

If it is a write-off I hope you get what it costs to obtain a similar age replacement. Even though mine was just coming up to 3 years old I had to fight tooth and nail to get anywhere near what was needed, and then didn’t get it all. All they want to give is trade-in value at most. My wife’s whiplash injury compensation didn’t even make up the shortfall. Trust you may have better luck.

      Insurance companies are the suck.

That said, our current one seems better. I haven't tried them with a wrecked car though.

Thanks for the support. Izzy is right and my neck is hurting more now than this morning. My passengers are suffering far more so we will be looking at personal injury claims.

The car is eleven years old so the difference in value probably won't be as significant as with a newer one. It was a good car though and buying a new one will be a hassle. Annoyingly I'd only just had it serviced.
