  1. An hour ago Oliver Cromwell was £132 at Amazon, 7 in stock. I was thinking about it. Now £173.26 with 4 in stock. (Dispatched and sold by Jadlam) No thanks Mr Bezos / Jadlam. Brit15
  2. Fair enough. I'll leave it at that. brit15
  3. Hornby's main customers are their retailers, they are letting most down - It is these retailers need more honesty (etc) from Hornby. No need to visit me as my Amazon A2/2 is running perfectly. £132 of Amazon last week - now back to full price !!!!! Crazy. I can't remember too many of our customers behaving like you said - most were more than happy to speak to someone quickly and face to face who could sort out their (usually our) problems. Yes some gave Flack etc, just a part of life. Someone mentioned todays litigious society, where you have to be careful with what you say etc. Wasn't like that years ago. I doubt anyone does these days what we did for the customer out of concern for litigation. Sad times. Brit15
  4. Well where I worked (British Gas) when things went wrong we (well I - it was part of my job) actually went to visit affected customers and told them the truth face to face - good or bad. When we messed up (and we did now ang again, sometimes big style) I found honesty, apologies and more over ACTION sorted it out. Sorry - Hornby is hiding behind corporate speak / customer unfriendly actions. They have problems. Brit15
  5. Just a simple, 100% honest statement from Hornby would have prevented most of this angst. If they are having supply problems, and think they will not get the numbers ordered from the manufacturers TELL US If the models ordered take longer to arrive, TELL US If they hold X % of said models for their own website TELL US If they reduce certain shops orders in a tier based system - TELL US If they have a falling out with a particular retailer TELL US nicely, and simply - we don't need to know exact details. A bit of honesty (especially when the news is bad) goes a long way in public relations. Brit15
  6. Hmmm !!! My personal thoughts, Hornby have "blown" it for me. Pure corporate greed is evident. Will I buy Hornby products again ? Yes, if the price is right, and the item is in stock (Their products are good) Otherwise, sod it. Full stop. Brit15
  7. The shop owner should respond with either one middle finger raised, or two in a V formation !!!!!! Brit15
  8. A bit off topic but Gostude is mentioned a lot or the ebay pages of rmweb. I have bought a couple of items, his prices might be high (hence the flack) but his service is first class - AND he has items in stock !!!!!!!! Brit15
  9. It's time we, the customer, formed our own tier system and support the local model shop where possible. Tier One - Visit and buy from your local model shop (if your lucky enough to have one nearby) Tier Two- Buy from model shops via mail order / phone (or even there ebay shops) Tier Three - Buy from the big box shifters via mail order / phone Tier Four - ebay Tier Five - Amazon Non stop tears - Buy from Gostude on ebay !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Yes I did buy from him once and really did get a bargain - a rare one off !!) I will continue to buy the odd Hornby / Bachmann product (concentrating now on my American O gauge). I will NOT jump through hoops and every item has a price for which I am prepared to pay, Sadly for me RRP is now just far to high personally for OO models (all manufacturers). It's mostly Tier Four for me these days - I can get the occasional O gauge item from model shops as well as private sellers on ebay - just bought last night an as new Atlas Caboose for £34 - (retail near £100) from one such ebay shop. Lots of model for the price. Brit15
  10. The Hornby "brand image" died many years ago when Tri-ang merged with / took them over. Tri-ang Hornby then just Hornby. Look at Bassett Lowke also and the meaningless cheap tat there now. Brit15
  11. This all points to serious supply problems from China - though Hornby will not state that outright. And I reckon the way the world is going it will not get better anytime soon. Brit15
  12. Better not to mention points - Diesel engines don't have points !!!!! Brit15

I have been a Hattons customer since my Tri-ang (remember them !!!!!) TT days in the 60's, the old on Smithdown Road. I liked a trip out to their "new" shop, and it was superb when they had everything both new and second hand in newly built glass showcases, clearly priced and identified. The staff were always helpful also. I was a bit miffed when they closed it. I have only visited their warehouse once, as others have said a dull experience however I still mail order occasionally from them. The world is in constant change these days, and rarely for the better. Brit15

Yes Thane of Fife is currently £159.59, I bought one for £132 just a few days ago. 3 left in stock. (9 when I bought mine). I can't understand and dislike this method of pricing / selling. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hornby-R3831-Thompson-Class-4-6-2/dp/B08485NFJ8 I am not a lover of Amazon but will buy from there occasionally if the price is right - my purchase was a pure impulse buy as my original pre order from Rails was cancelled. I do however buy of ebay, from ebay shops, and private bid items / buy it now items. I have no problems with ebay - and not just model railway items either. The world is upside down at the moment. 15. Probably hundreds. Impossible to tell. Each line from one specific point to another had bridges numbered in order. Brit15

I worked in an industry (Gas Distribution) during an age when the customer was king, and woe betide us if we did not serve, For me it was keeping the gas supplied, at all hours, in all weathers. I think we all did rather well. I find customer service these days in many, if not all aspects of life, quite dismal. Amazon served yesterday. The website said upon ordering around 10.00 am delivery before 10.00 pm same day, it was delivered at around 7pm. First class service. Hornby served as a manufacturer also for this particular transaction. The locomotive could have been "iffy" according to many reports (on rmweb) - Mine is not, no bits falling off, straight running plate, a superb and powerful runner. Who is going to pay £190 plus postage when the same product can be had for £132 free postage, same day delivery ? (ordered via daughters Prime A/C). Had the loco been not up to standard it would be in the post being returned today, AND I would NOT be asking for or looking for a replacement. As the song I posted earlier "These are the trains I can do without" - an impulse buy because I always fancied an A2/2 with it's weird smoke deflectors !!!!!! I have not given up on Hornby, Hattons, Rails or indeed the many other small shops I buy from now and again. though I do think Hornby need to be honest and tell us all (The customer) just what the hell is going on. So if Hornby ARE selling them on Amazon (I paid £132), yet on their website they are full price at £190, and at Hattons (etc) they are sold out. Just what is going on ? Brit15

Well I value and cherish my A2 / 2 Thank you Amazon (and whoever supplied them). Hornby is a bit in between the Devil and the dark blue sea. I think they are trying to juggle imported products of, perhaps, lesser quantities / longer delivery times than they anticipate, etc. They also have / had financial concerns and have a commercial requirement to maximise profit on goods they import. They can't supply / please everyone like in days past. Whether what they are doing re tiers is correct etc I can't comment as I don't know the facts. Brit15

An update on my Amazon order of the Hornby R3831 A2/2 Thane of Fife, ordered this morning via my daughters Prime account. The loco was delivered half an hour ago - what superb service. Brand new, sealed, not a mark on the box (in a sealed poly bag). No bits off, straight running plate, livery fine (if a tad on the light side - though I never saw a real one) - and the running is, well, just superb. Quiet and powerful straight from the box just as it ought to be. Romped away with 12 on. Very, very pleased. 6 left in stock at Amazon for just under £140 now. Brit15
  24. It's a bridge number plate. Brit15
