  1. Hi Iain If youread my entry dorrectly I specifically said_ "I've spoken with the UK Repair agents and got some bad news." But, never mind, we are all entitled to our opinions. My response to you was not of rudeness, just frustration. Thanks Phil H
  2. Of course - I did say I had spoken with the UK agent! Thanks Phil H
  3. Hi all, I have a problem... My Set 100 needs a repair after an incident at an exhibition! I've spoken with the UK Repair agents and got some bad news. Due to difficulties sine Brexit he is not taking any of this work on. The problems he desribed are a mixed bag. Unable to get a return date from lenz Unable to get a cost following Brexit - due to way VAT liability and harges are being assessed and enforced on the retailer/agent and customer. So, is there anyone else in the UK who does carry out repair work on Lenz DCC equipment? Thanks Phil H

  7. Hi all, OK - Show over, all packed up, now at home getting some food down me! NGS -Forth & Clyde would like to thank Malcolm and the Falkirk orgainising team for a great exhibition. We were so busy on our stand that I hardly got any modelling done myself - some others of the team did though! So, that's our exhibition cycle for 2022 completed! However, we have one other event to go for! We have a 'Skills Day' at Knightly Gaming, 2 Hopetown Street, Bathgate on Saturday 17th December 2022. But, to get back to the show! Great time, loads of compliments, loads of visitors - loads of layouts, loads of traders - In short? Can we have more shows like this please? Phil H
  8. Hi all, NGS - Forth & Clyde Area Group will be at the show. I've had a few queries about how to get to the venue - so I made a map! See you at the show.......
  9. Hi all, as per the title.... Farish Mk1 coaches, not worried which version, livery or coach type Not worried if poor paint condition either All to be used as basis for putting etched sides onto. Send me a message of you have any you want to sell on! Phil H
  10. Hi Chris, Agree with Ian - Maskol makes like a lot easier! I use masking tape to seel off the inside of the glazing. Then a small piece of masing tape in the centre of each window, then Maskol out to the window surround. I use etch primer on all the areas to be painted. Paint the surround first, then mask it off with more Maskol. Then put on the front colour paint. Leave to dry for 48 hours if using enamel, 24 hours if using acrylic. Remove masking with care and touch up if required. Thanks Phil H Then
  11. Hi all, A great man for this hobby throughout his life and will be greatly missed by many. I met him on several occasions over the period from 1976 to 2000 and always went away feeling I had learned something from what we discussed. When you think of the range of subjects his modelling has covered over the years, plus the other aspects of the hobby he worked on, he was a phenomenal resource! Time to add another section to my library of his books and articles. Phil H
  12. Hi Guys, Brilliant news! Just been pricing up other options to do this very model - £10.00 is less than 1/2 the price of any other models. Looks like I will be buying several.... Thanks Phil H
  13. Hi Keefer, Yes - we had Cl101's at that time, but..... I thought the GG was applied only to units that had been given the 1/2 life refurbishment? That program seems to only have been completed by 1976 so would have been post the GG introduction date? Maybe that's why no one has found any CL101 with the GG logo? Thanks Phil H
  14. Hi John, Yoiu have asked one of the questions that set off my search and this thread! So far, I've not found any CL101 in Blue with the GG or Transclyde logos. But, as I've found out relating to other things GG/Transclyde - that does not mean it didn't happen! Thanks Phil H

  16. Hi all, Well, that's me started on this challenge! First day - could have done better - Fitbit says just over 6000 steps, but site says 500 steps - not sure about why the difference! So - will have to try harder as today I only reached 50% of my target..... In the meantime - My Just Giving page is live for the event! https://step.diabetes.org.uk/fundraising/philip935 Thanks Phil H
  17. Hi Nick, Cannon & Company did a pack specifically for the CP SD40-2 and included replacement steps. I have the remains of one but not enough to do a full job! I seem to remember you have to cut out the existing steps and put the replacement etches in place. Thanks Phil H
  18. Hi David, Thanks for the links - much appreciated. Soundtraxx - I have the right decoder already - left over from another project (initially bought the wrong decoder from USA and it was easier just to get the correct one than return the wrong one for replacement). Miniatures by Eric - great range of bits, I have some already, but not the airhorns Photos of any of the CP SD40-2 are a help! Thanks Phil H
  19. Hi all, Getting near to making some progress - some bits sourced! Thanks to Dr Quinn I have a collection of bits that are needed for this detailing project. Still not got all I want/need - but at least it's looking feasible to do the work. I also got some bits from eBay via the XMGS seller and that means there are fewer bits I still need to source. I'm looking for 2 Cannon & Company Walkway and step detailing packs for Athearn SD40-2 but they are like hens teeth! I still have a query about the horns I need to get - which ones? Looking at the photos they appear to be 3 tone with 2 horns facing one direction and 1 horn the other (you decide which is Front and Rear!) So - P3, K3, Nathan - who knows the answer? With a bit of luck I'll start the work next week and will post as things progress. Thanks Phil H
  20. Hi all, Recently I've been buying US HO wagons for another project before the prices get any worse! I'm now in a dispute with a seller over some of the purchases and eBay are not helping. Why? The photos of the items purchased clearly show Kadee couplings fitted, but the seller has not stated this in the blurb. When the purchases arrived they had all lost the Kadee couplings and had no couplings with them. Now, I was happy to bid an extra few quid for Kadee fitted wagons but I feel I have been taken advantage of. In response to my 'item not as described' claim, eBay have stated that, as Kadee couplings are not stated in the description, there is no claim to answer. Yet again, another case of eBay not supporting the buyer in favour of the seller. I hear you say I'm just having a moan! In future I'll be asking the seller if the couplings shown will be supplied with the purchase. Thanks Phil H
  21. Hi all, Well - that lead turned out to be a dead end - it has nothing about SD40-2's to help me. I'm glad I didn't splash out on it....... I sat down and started cutting and carving on the loco I got off eBay using the detail packs that came with it. Not enough of them though! I've also gone back to the original model by starting to revise and improve the details that were added back in the 80's. Thanks Phil H
  22. Hi all, I certainly miss the days of being able to go into MGS or Macs Models and walking out with all the detail bits needed! I now have 2 CP SD40-2 models to work on. Having had the first one returned to me after 35 years (post bereavement - willed back to me), I saw another one on eBay listed with a lot of bits and decided to go for it! Well, I won that auction and I now have the purchase! It does not have all the bits as it was a 'work in progress', but it's a good start. I'll take some photos at some point to show progress. I've just been working through the various product lists to see what there is, but, so far, everything I would need has to come from the US or Canada. Having said that, I've just found out that some of the old MGS stock is now on eBay, but, again, not all I need is listed. Ian at Macs has no idea where the box with the US dertail bits is, but will try and find it and let me know/ Nick, I'd be happy to purchase any of the bits you find that are suitable! Thanks Phil H
  23. Hi Chris, I had messages from Ian about Xmas/New Year. He's not well again and shop hours are affected. I'll try giving him a call and see what he says. Last time I was through he couldn't find the stuff I was after - even though he had messaged me to say he had the items. Phil H
  24. Hi all, Apparently I should find a copy of this DVD! HO Weathering & Detailing Volume 4 A quick look at an online excerpt confirms it has a lot of information that will help me. Anyone got a copy and can confirm this? Thanks Phil H
  25. Hi David, Thanks for the links - much appreciated. Job 1 - move headlights - already done on 5415 and started 5637. Job 2 - improve walkways and steps - started on 5415, need to find another set of parts to do 5637. Job 3 - add correct type plows - need to find the right ones - all the ones I have in the bits box are the CN type Job 4 - improve roof fans - engine and dynamic - still to start, I have the rights ones in the bits box. Job 5 - Snowshields - need photos to work from, then either make some or find a suitable product. Job 6 - add bells - done 5415, need more to do 5637 - I have wrong type in the bits box Job 7 - improve/replace handrails - I have some stanchions but not enough! Job 8 - MU stands and markers - I have wrong type in the bits box. So, not a short processs to get them to the stage of needing a new coat of paint and decals.... Thanks Phil H
