Familiar sight in the north west at the end of the DMU's, driver trying to start the engines, or driver pointing the way to Preston ? -
A view of the engineers yard at Wigan Wallgate in the 1970's with two grounded vans and a coach now long gone, just a car park now.

Newton-le-Willows From Wikipedia - A stanchion is a sturdy upright that provides support for some other object. They are often not a permanent fixture, so that they may be expediently enlisted or removed whenever desired .........if only ! -

Further to the above Jim, the top picture was taken approx behind the trees on the far left hand side in this picture, taken in 1986 when it was a single line to Bickershaw colliery only. I'm heading towards Platt Bridge and Springs Branch with MGR's from Bickershaw for Fiddlers Ferry. Tom

big jim Looking north, the train is between Platt Bridge junction and Bickerhaw junction heading for Manchester on the long gone LNWR line from Wigan. The lines at the bottom are from Bickershaw junction to Low Hall colliery localy known as Moss Hall colliery in Platt Bridge. Tom
