  1. Very nice layout. Just goes to prove that sometimes - "more is more" Lots to see and find in your well planned layout. Nice overall tones and good weathering - very realistic Thanks for sharing. Stuart
  2. I have decided I had better go on a diet. Yesterday my watch alarm went off and the guy behind me jumped out the way............ ...........................he thought I was reversing.
  3. Hope this isn't too boring for you all Promise this will be my last post dedicated to this Class 47 - time to let it Rust In Peace General view followed by a GOOGLE EARTH fly past Stuart
  4. Thanks Arnington - look forward to seeing your scrap yard on here some day. Big T - Love the scrap 56 picture.......... I can't have one of them though as they were brand new in my model period. They had delivered up to around 56 103 when I gave up the spotting game and where my model period is meant to finish. I have snipped those bogie clips - made a good difference thanks. Stuart
  5. Thanks guys. In the next few days, I will load a photo of it - located in the scrap yard - where it will remain for a good few years. Then - it is time I got on with adding some back scenes and some green bits. I have been putting this off long enough and since my family bought me cows, sheep and trees, for Christmas - I think I should take the hint. Glad you approve of what I did to your 47 Jeff........... it will have a long and happy life now - just not a very active one. Stuart
  6. Thanks for the encouragement guys - much appreciated as always. Happy New Year to all on RMweb Made some more progress on the scrap 47. Firstly I corrected my "wrong shade of blue gaff" - then used faded yellow by adding white to the already faded Phoenix mix and added numbers. Now as 47 272 - I managed to cut the thick black chassis to the same profile as my already cut body sides. If anyone fancies trying this......score the profile onto the black chassis with a sharp scalpel - then "snip" the thick plastic away using pliers - it will break along the score line in short sections. Simple tip - but probably saved me a few fingers. Didn't have to use the oven........... bending by hand once it was thinned - it took the shape quite well. I then used super glue to weld the body sides to the matching chassis profile and it has held my chosen banana shape. Then comes the subjective bit........... rust and streaks - close up it looks like it was attacked by a foot long paintbrush (it kinda was) - but viewed as it will be from about 3 feet - I like what I have here. Next stage will be position it at the back of my scrap yard behind my grounded Peak and 25. I will add loads of debris on the ground and at Model Rail Scotland next month I will buy some more mini welders and some ladders to climb onto this hulk. Not sure if I will tackle a scratch built engine - I quite like the void - might just add some bulkheads and some "junk" on the chassis to hide the bogie clips. The last photos show 47 272 beside my Heljan pristine 47 337 (middle) and an other Hornby one 47 077 - albeit this was weathered before I bought it. I have created something I wanted to do - not exhibition standard - but good enough for my "train set" layout and it kept me away from the telly and the mince pies for a few hours. Comments welcome.
  7. Nice idea Arpleymodeller - you must have been on more Health & Safety courses than me.......! Or maybe you are just more sensible. Might not be that hard after all - have a look at the bend already in these photos. Glad my painting only has to be to scrap standards - talk about shaky hands.....,,,,,! I will tidy this up - and have to admit I have used the wrong tin for the roof - picked up my BR Blue (not my BR faded blue I used for the sides) - oh well - roof will be going black(ish) soon enough - with blue showing through over the cabs. The second picture shows the bend quite well and compares to the 47 300 link I posted a few days ago...... only problem so far is that Hornby use a fairly stout black chassis - which i will either need to bend to match the body....or cut away. As these pictures show - it looks wrong as the body sides and floor plate should be "as one" with a class 47 - and both would bend. Having fun though - can't wait to get started on the faded yellow and blue, streaks. dirt and rust etc. Jeff.......... I have decided to chose 47 272 as my victim. ....... It felt as though it was a daily visitor through Bishopbriggs back in the day when HA based - but I managed to see it on several English Trips as well - so it deserves to die.....! I appreciate that it actually survived to become 47 595 + 47 673 + even today it survives as 47 790 ........ but let's pretend it didn't, Thanks for watching Stuart
  8. Sorry for the delay D9Jef - snow and family got in the way (again). Thanks for the bump to page 1. Hope this does not make you too sad but I have made a start. 1st Photo shows your donor Class 47 525 having been unloaded from low loader onto my cutting mat. 2nd photo shows the wee welders have made the first cuts.............. and strangely the silly wee painters are also working at the same time............. to paint the thing blue and renumber it........ My paint skills are just about good enough for - scrap levels - but I am quite pleased with the smashed windows. More will follow albeit - slowly. Still thinking about the bow - probably have to involve some time in the oven - obviously I will need to wait till wife and weans are out for that experiment......... ......wish me luck. Stuart
  9. Thanks Crossfell5 You made that look so easy........! Stuart
  10. Hi Bruce (sorry to other readers - but "most" of you are friendly enough to ignore this chit chat and not clipe* us to the Mods.) 47 337 was the only Class 47 that managed to hide from me. Maybe some day I will go find it as 57 602 - but it will not feel the same. I had quite a string of "singles" when I finally hung up my Snorkel Jacket, Rucanor bag and brown cords 45 059 20 009 40 090 Oh well - long time ago now. * Clipe to tell or snitch on someone Stuart
  11. Thanks Bruce, Heard you introduce yourself to Simon(?) on the Airthrey Park layout at the Falkirk show the other Saturday. Didn't want to intrude on your chat - and didn't think either of you would know "Brush47337" - so I didn't say "hello". We could probably have mustered a bigger 1pm meet at Falkirk than is achieved each year at Warley ............- just from people on this thread.....! Perhaps we should attempt a group "RMweb pint" at Model Rail. That might be the Warley problem. - Much easier to pick a "tap" at a given bar at a certain time - and if nobody shows up after the first 4 hours then.......- no harm done and - nothing wasted. Stuart
  12. My photos are not of the same standard as others on here - but at least they are Old Scottish With Blue diesels So maybe not all bad then. At least these photos will get the thread another wee bump to the front pages. First up is 25 079 on 13.04.82 For some reason with these photos...... I recorded the train details. Would have sworn blind I never did that.......oh well - hope I got them right. I have this as 25 079 on the 14.44 Queen Street to Dundee Photo shows Bishopbriggs High School (demolished 4 months back) in the background. How great was it having the Glasgow to Edinburgh main line running past a high school - great planning. 20.07.82 now and along the line at Sighthill junction with Eastfield behind the train. The line diverging to the left is the very start of the West Highland line heading first to Maryhill and Sumerston - then to nicer parts of West Scotland. This also formed the Sighthill triangle where trains could reverse when required and head to Edinburgh. Photo shows 47 040 about 3 minutes away from Queen Street with what is probably an Ex Aberdeen Service. All down hill to Queen Street from here. Last for now......... 47 711 shoves it's passengers towards Glasgow. This is seen passing under Westercleddens Road bridge between Cadder Yard and Bishopbriggs Station About to pass Bishopbriggs High School. This spot is now famous because - I designed the new Woodhill Evangelical Church - which can be seen from passing trains heading to Edinburgh just to the left of this photo ( albeit 28 years after this was taken) . Well maybe when I am dead it will be famous. This is 47 711 on 13.04.82 with the 15.30 Service from Edinburgh to Glasgow. Cheers Stuart
  13. Look forward to seeing more pictures of this. It looks great - Looks like the kind of fun layout every dad / granddad / uncle should have in the loft. Stuart
  14. Thanks Dave (Waverley West) and Vac_Basher comments much apreciated D9JEF - came through with the donor (sacrificial lamb) Class 47 for the scrap man Hornby Class 47 525 in InterCity grey with red / white stripes. I will have a go at documenting my process in scrapping this - starting with a full repaint into faded BR blue and a re number. Then cutting and burning Etc till it looks something like this. http://www.wnxx.com/...0502ahowitt.jpg Photo URL lifted from WNXX site - Hope this is OK with Andy and Co - Photo is credited to A Howitt and shows 47 300 having been cut. (in my day there was no 47 300) The design of the 47 with a structural Monocoque body - resulted in a bend like this when scrapped with cabs and Engine still in situ. I hope to emulate this - and will attempt a scratch built engine and bulkheads etc. Not sure what new number will be in my era 47's were only scrapped if accident damage - not many candidates - might have to cheat and pick an Eastfield one - I would have been sick off back in the day and scrap that.......! WNXX has a fantastic gallery section of scrapped locos - sad but compelling viewing. Stuart
  15. Jeff PM sent thanks for the kind and generous offer Stuart
  16. Thanks YVM and Tangmere Tornado. (Has to be a good reason for both those names) YVM - I am on the lookout for a cheap Class 47 and 27 for the scrap yard. I want to model a sagging 47 with the engine removed - and also a fire damaged crispy 27. Ebay prices are still £12 - £25 plus postage - even for ancient non runners Lima ones. I will have a look through teh rummage boxes at the Falkirk show in a few weeks - giving Warley a miss again this year. TT - Large Logo 50 is from the first Hornby release of this class. Perhaps 4 years ago. It is a great runner - very smooth and great slow pulling power + lights. You can find them pretty cheap these days - they knocked out quite a few in different numbers. Thanks for the comments Stuart
  17. The weak winter sun was coming in pretty low today - makes Douglas Depot look quite moody even with my duff photo skills. Three Heljan 47 and a Heljan 27. These danish things sure like hanging around at the pumps. Over the winter I will be working on the back corner seen here and adding backscenes - this picture needs a better background but I thought the light still looked good enough to photograph. Maybe the next 2 months will show more progress than the last 2 did - it's hard work finding time for a hobby. Stuart
  18. Two jokes (new ones to me anyway) in the same day. Perhaps the business world is recovering after all. Three bulls heard via the grapevine that the rancher was going to bring yet another bull onto the ranch, and the prospect raised a discussion among them. First Bull: "Boys, we all know I've been here 5 years. Once we settled our differences, we agreed on which 100 of the cows would be mine. Now, I don't know where this newcomer is going to get HIS cows, but I am not giving' him any of mine." Second Bull: "That pretty much says it for me, too. I've been here 3 years and have earned my right to the 50 cows we've agreed are mine. I'll fight him till I run him off or kill him, but I'M KEEPIN' ALL MY COWS." Third Bull: "I've only been here a year and so far you guys have only let me have 10 cows to "take care of". I may not be as big as you fellows (yet) but I am young and virile, so I simply MUST keep all MY cows." They had just finished their big talk when an eighteen-wheeler pulls up in the middle of the pasture with only ONE ANIMAL IN IT: the biggest Son-of-Another-Bull these guys had ever seen! At 4700 pounds, each step he took toward the ground strained the steel ramp to the breaking point. First Bull: "Ahem... You know, it's actually been some time since I really felt I was doing all my cows justice, anyway. I think I can spare a few for our new friend." Second Bull: "I'll have plenty of cows to take care of if I just stay on the opposite end of the pasture from HIM. I'm certainly not looking for an argument." They look over at their young friend, the 3rd bull, and find him pawing the dirt, shaking his horns, and snorting. First Bull: "Son, let me give you some advice real quick. Let him have some of your cows and live to tell about it." Third Bull: "Hell, he can have ALL my cows. I'm just making sure "The big Boy" knows I'M a bull!"..........!
  19. Sorry ..... in advance.....! Quick, does anyone know how to undo a bid on ebay??................. I was happily bidding away for a Mickey Mouse Outfit but now it seems Im obligated to buy LFC... Boom Boom
  20. so.......that's.................. The ...................The Irish.........The Welsh .......(drummers(?) .........and .......The Scots.....Racialy stereotyped in turn. I started it - so apologies to anyone ofended. Now what about the English........don't want them to feel left out. How about this weeks wee gem from Kevin Bridges. (Train announcements voice) .............." This train will shortly be stopping at Carlisle.........for any passengers wishing to change here for England...........you will be pleased to know there is a JJB sports in the station." sorry
  21. Another 27 from me....! Don't panic not 27 photos. Tidy looking 27 206 sneaking through Motherwell station 13.10.1981 (29 years ago!) I haven't seen many 27's under the wires guess you had to seek them out on turns between Motherwell, Carstairs and Carlisle.
  22. A news flash on the BBC announced Ireland's worst ever plane crash. A source near the scene reported... " A two seater cessna plane crashed into South Dublin's main cemetery shortly after take off....... Dublin CSI have so far recovered 164 bodies but this total is expected to climb as digging continues well into the night."
  23. Two from me - locos again - sorry didn't pay much attention to DMU's back in the snorkel jacket days - but I did like these recent images posted here. These two images are also in my Gallery page where I have a mix of images taken all over the UK Thought these two would fit in quite well in this thread also. 27 209 has gone "pop" and been dumped out the back at Motherwell. I recall a good few crispy 27's at Glasgow works and Eastfield - poor wee things got thrashed to death on the Glasgow to Embra shuttles. This is 13.10.81 which I guess was the end for 27 209. A happier moment in the sun for 26 027 ( A Heljan one no less) passing a busy Mossend .....again on 13.10.81
  24. Thanks for the kind words and thanks also for the comments posted in my gallery under the photos you liked.

  25. Managed to miss this one till today (Have to admit RHTT + DMU) in the title put me off - but my loss - this is a superb layout with plenty of model interest and a cracking main line. Your ballast and grass areas look great. Stuart
