So it's been a while (seems like a heart attack and surviving a stroke - was so last year) since I've written a Blog Entry(re-uploading the photo's isn't fun).

Long story short, I got this kit on a whim, as I'd seen a few Positive reviews of it on YouTube and I wanted an Airfix Beer Glass!

I noticed, well it was pointed out to me that one of the decal options was Her Majesty the Queen's:

And then it sat on the shelf in the workshop for a while, as I had a distinct Lack of Modelling Mojo, then the Queen Passed and I thought what better tribute than to build the Queen's (ok Princess Elizabeth's) Ambulance.

It should be pointed out that Academy tooled this kit for Airfix(as they do with most of 1/35th Scale kits) and it shows in the kit.

    yes that is Photo Etch.

Now the chassis Built up nicely - shame I put things on upside down(yes, having 80% brain damage has messed things up a tad).

This was painted with my new favourite paints Tamiya LP-29 Olive Drab2 and LP-65 Rubber Black.

The Ambulance side of things was built up straightforwardly and most importantly fitted - it's a dry fit on the chassis btw.

Now once I'd Primed and painted it the interior was glued in Place and everything else was test fitted.

So I got on with building it - however trouble loomed ahead, the paint (LP-29) was getting perilously low.

Of course I had to wait, Royal Mail were on Strike, so I fitted the roof(s) and some other bits and bobs and did some filling & clean up.

Then after what seemed ages - the paint Arrived and I could get on with finishing the Katy off.

Now after the Gloss Clear had dried - it was time to apply decals.

These went on well, however they are thin - do not use Micro set or warm water to apply them - they'll be tears.

These were left overnight until I decided to give them a Slight Semi Gloss (satin) clear coat and fitted all the remaining pieces.

It would've been finished there, but I decided to weather it - so out came the oils and the clay washes..

    So that's it for now.

So it's been over 6 months since an update on this big build, but now there's been some work on it. Some of these photo's have appeared on my thread..

With the Peco Bull-head track cut into lengths it was time to make up the base for the shed, I went for a magnetic attachment using 3mm rare earth magnets (I only needed ten sets).

With the base plate made it was time for some surgery on the engine shed

With this done, it was time to test fit the track & work out where to isolate the track, it was initially planned to be 3 section per track in the shed - however when I put some loco's in, it was very apparent that wouldn't work.

After consulting with my Client (and his brother) the issue isolating sections was sorted and instead of three sections it was reduced to two per track in the shed. I had to cut the inspection pits out first prior to laying the track. Once the track was laid, wired up and cut, the inspection pits were added.

I also altered the height of the shed entrances (more styrene).

Next up was the fun part, cutting up strips of styrene strip and sheet to make up the floor. This was then painted a suitable colour.

With the hard part done, I started painting the interior, modifying some Hornby Buffer beams to fit and gluing the roof frames in place (after they'd been painted).  The base plate was also collected part way through this by my client (hence why it disappears part way through the photo's below lol).

Now next up I should've been installing the lighting - however Amazon let me down on some parts, so in the meantime I got on building up the roof panels.

So that's all for this build update.

Now where was I with this build..

Oh yes now I remember, I was test fitting the roof panels..

With them test fitted & trimmed where needed, I painted the interior surfaces (off white), fitted the roof sky lights, chimneys and made up the clerestory sections.

Next up, I added some exterior trim and installed the interior lighting.

Before I installed the exterior lamps, I decided to get the exterior painted, scratch build an internal storage area (to hide the wiring loom) and glue the roof panels on the rear shed.

At this point my neck decided to play up, so I got on with some smaller projects and a few bits for the shed interior.

With my neck behaving itself, I got on with installing the exterior lighting, finishing of the interior storage area and gluing the remaining main roof panels in place.

Now for the real mojo breaker - tiling the roof(s)..

Creating a central gutter using PVA.

After several coats of PVA, I could start to add the courses of slates/tiles..

With two roof sections done, I waved the white flag for the Bank Holiday Weekend.

Till the next (and hopefully final) part.

Be careful what you wish for @gwrrob😉

So after 18 months or so on (& off the bench), the Engine Shed is finished and currently en-route (as I type) to it's final home temporally - as it's got to go to the layout builders in Taunton next week.

Anyhow on with the final part and where I left off - the roof or tiling nightmare as I like to call it (to be fair Bramley was quite poorly at the time - so I was not quite with it).

Ridge tiles were created using my Infini Cutting Mat & 6mm Tamiya Masking tape.

Masked up ready for the roof to be painted

Back from paint & unmasked, the roof is done (apart from weathering).

Next up was the the guttering and downpipes - the downpipe brackets are by Modelu, once these were on I added  some of the machinery to the interior that I'd made in part 3.

Now I was on to the weathering, I used airbrush and powders on the roof and for the soot inside and up the front walls above the entrances (this got toned afterwards) and Flory Dark dirt wash for the walls.

Got some bits (all Modelu) ready for paint and a loco crew for another project).

With all the various bits for the interior painted they were added to shed.

With a few finishing touches, the shed is done - for now, as once it's in situe on my clients layout, there will be staff and few other details added.

    Time for the big reveal..

And that's all for this build.

Something a bit different a heavy fighter from the early years of WW2 - fantastic concept, let down with crap engines, if only they'd fitted it with Merlin's.

Over a year in the making (though technically only took a week to build).

In between, many, many commissions I've been build this beast of a kit and unlike a certain Revell Corvette, it doesn't need wrestling in to submission!

It's not a huge part count, but is exquisite in it's detail.

    The Build

    The Hull dry fitted together.

Very important - have the deck dry-fitted in place, while the hull is curing after being glued together (otherwise you'll have fit issues).

If you do as I say, the deck should sit in place with no glue.

On my hull, the area indicated by the arrow needed some fettling to ensure the deck went down properly.

    The deck glued into place.

Building up the conning tower and adding a few bits.

    The bow needed some refining..

There are locations for rigging to protect the dive planes in port - however they snap off, I decided to drill them out a replace the foreword ones with copper tube.

A tear or two, her last appearance on the old workbench..

Relocated to the new workshop, I resumed doing some work on U-9.

Filling some gaps around the prop shafts.

The conning tower primed and a number of parts dry fitted.

A few more parts added, she's now ready for paint, that's for part 2

Something a bit different, the Seafang, the planned replacement for the Seafire - which due to the Jet Age, became an interim (and mostly) forgotten foot note in British Naval aviation history.

Then Trumpeter created a kit of it (along with the Spiteful).

I've had it my stash for a while and I wanted a quick build..

    The build..

As with most Trumpeter kits, the fit is pretty good, just a few annoying bits (more on that later).

First muck up- quoting the wrong shade of Sea Grey - Dark instead of Extra Dark.

Second the out of register and under scale roundels..

Spares from one of my Eduard kits came to the rescue fortunately..

    14 Months Later..

In what will hopefully be the penultimate part of HMCS Snowberry's build and in the new 'Works', I make substantial progress on the Very Big Build..

First order of business was to figure out where I'd got to in the instructions and give Snowberry a dust down.

    Fortunately that was the bridge..

With the bridge being put in place, I could get the rigging done - EZ Line from now on.

The bridge is nearly there just the radar tower to build - oh here that is..

While the radar tower was in paint, I got on with adding the posts and railings to the engine room roof - I used aftermarket posts from Great Little Ships and EZ Line.

With the radar tower installed - the bridge was finished and it was time to go back to the right place in the build sequence.

Bits added to the aft of the engine room.

I decided at this point to replace some of the original rigging I'd done with EZ Line. Plus the nameplates went on (20 year old decals are not for the faint of heart) , the steps (in the wrong place) and the jibs for the depth charge launchers - these had a few tweaks.

Then came the tedious part - making up depth charges and the launchers.

The launchers fitted in place beautifully (thankfully).

Not many complete sprues left now..

With the dinghy racks assembled (needed some mods), I discovered the ladders to the aft deck from a midships where in the wrong place

These were moved, while the dinghy racks & depth charges were being painted for the port side.

With those parts all glued in place, I added the rope to one of the reels/drums (4 feet of twine).

Rinse and repeat for the port side and then I added a few bits a midships for the boats..

That should've been it, however today I assembled the boats..

These need a bit of work (including some very visible raised ejector pins!)

That's all for this part, sorry it was so long in coming.

Final part of the Coaling Stage build, in this it focus on final assembly, painting, detailing, weathering and even some soldering

Adding the coaling drop to the front - the instructions were very vague on how it went together!

The time consuming part, hand painting the exterior, I applied a coat of light concrete and then dry brushed the exterior with light brick acrylics..

I then painted the interior walls white and then dry brushed dark brick randomly to the exterior brick work.

After painting the floor weathered black and touching up the brick work, I painted the exterior trim

After fitting the glazing, I weathered the interior and put a light wash of black over the exterior. Oh and painted the stairs..

Next up the roof was fitted.

Coal trucks added to the interior..

I masked every thing up and airbrushed the roof of the tank, once dry I added the platform for access to the tank.

The bit I was dreading making up and soldering the railings for the tank access platform - it went better than expected!

After paint the railings by hand, it was then a case of making up and fitting & painting the ladder support and trimming the ladder to length (the ladder & stairs will be fitted once the coaling stage installed on the layout..

Then it was back to paintshop for final weathering..

And that is a cameo, by another Timber Tracks building.

Is it Armour, is it Railway or both - all I know is it's big for 1/72nd.

Brief history of the model, it was first released by Hobby Boss in 2007, the Railway Transporter was released in 2008 (without the KARL), this version was released last year, so it's two models in one.

As hinted at in part 4, the decals were going so well and then it came to the wings and silvering appeared everywhere!

After several days work and a lot of X-20A Thinners, I got rid of most of it.

And finally the wings were glued in place and that's the way she sat for the next 5 weeks till work resumed..

So on with the build, I'll keep the commentary to a minimum..

First time using a metalliser paint on the drop tanks.

    Last bits ready to add.

However the P-47D needed to get dirty first and another first - using a Flory Models Dark Dirt Wash for the first time..

I also applied the wash to remaining parts..

Okay, so were was I on the Shackleton build..

Oh yes, I was busy getting parts ready for paint - including masks..

Replacing the plastic aerials under the wings with something sturdier..

    Wings back from primer..

    Some painting done..

Main undercarriage bays spray Insignia White & masked.

    Wings sprayed and temporarily installed..

Masking up the fuselage for paint..

    Fuselage painted and unmasked..

    The Shack reassembled again..

A gloss clear coat added - and the fun begins..

A pot of parts left (minus the resin wheels)

The nightmare begins applying the decals

And a proper jig, after a final clear coat.

So far so good - you say..

In part 5 the nightmare begins...

    Till next time

Time for another War-bird build - albeit slightly different from the norm.,

.. and yes it's a shake and bake build (and JUG - for those with a dirty mind  )

    Instructions and aftermarket..

    The Frames/Sprues

The initial build - straight-forward, so no explanation really needed.

That's how she stands at present - however I will be restarting on her very soon

Time for another piece of Armour - this time it's Russian (albeit in Polish Markings)...

    The Box Art

Decals & Colour/Markings Call out (it's green lol)

    The Sprues (or Frames), etc.

The build - fairly straightforward - it's Tamiya after all

Lower hull and tracks painted (and fitted). Important to follow the instructions at this point as the tracks are different on either side - due to offset road wheels.

Upper hull and turret painted and fitted..

    Last bits of detail fitted..

Decals added (all 4 of them)

    Tracks initially weathered.

All weathered and ready for her big reveal...

    In the great outdoors..

Yep another Tank build - this time it's Tamiya's M26 Pershing from 2005..

    Box Art

    Ye

Instructions and colour call out - yes it's green

I chose to do option C which technically is T26E3 and not a M26 Pershing.

    Decals, metal & rubber bits..

    The Sprues..

    The Build - very straightforward.

Some paint and fitting the tracks - note the road wheels are offset from one-side to the other (so read the instructions!)

Being an older Tamiya kit - some minor filling was needed.

    All painted and decaled.

    Part way through weathering.

Having thoroughly enjoyed build HMS Buttercup, I decided to get something much larger...

A few stats.. Length: 1082.5 mm, Beam: 160 mm, Parts: 1260+

As a wise precaution I invested in a reference book. Lot's of nice scale drawings and details

What's in the box, well for starters - more boxes!

The instruction booklet and colour call out.

In the white box is the beautifully moulded one piece hull.

Box A. Contains multiple sprues, the photo-etch and decals.

    8 of this sprue

    Three of this sprue.

Prop's parts of structure, anchors etc.

    Decals

    8 Sheets of Photo-etch

Box B Contains more armament and parts of the structure.

    2 of this sprue.

    One of this sprue

2 of this one (these are well wrapped up)

Box C. Contains the Superstructure, Masts, Bulkheads, etc.

Box D - thankfully only contains on part...

The deck, all a metre plus of it!

And for a sense of the sheer size of the hull - here's the hull next to 1/76th scale 40' GWR parcels van...

Till I pluck up the courage to start the build

Going to keep these update blogs quite short - unlike the Shack which is huge.. (I'd forgotten that).

    The Aftermarket arrived from Hannants.

With the fuselage fully cured, I gave the joint lines a initial clean up & added some more of the glazing, plus test fitted the tail.

I turned my attention to the underside and fitted the bomb bay door's etc.

Time to work on the wings and all 6 of the engines..

The outboard engine nacelles are very different from my previous Shackleton builds...

A slight diversion, but on with the build..

Glazing all fitted and engine nacelles closed up.

Disassembled for some filling and clean up..

Last reassembly before it's painted, filling complete and a few more bits added.

A few more minor mods to make and then once the primer arrives she'll be into paint..

Finally after what seems like an age, I'm making a start on Revell's take on the Shackleton - though in this case it's the MR.3 (Phase 3 version).

Which means for those not in the know - Nose wheel rather than a tail dragger, wing tip tanks and in the case of the Phase 3: 6 engines...

Forget following the instructions, each side of the fuselage is made from 2 parts - I decided to glue the two parts of each side together and using the bomb bay roof & wing spar section to ensure everything lined up, while the glue cured.

With the halves cured I busied myself building up the interior and adding weight to the nose - the instructions say 30 grams, I doubled it!

Now as you can see there's a circular hole underneath where the tail empernage goes, having going through the instructions and sprues thrice - there's no mention of it (must be from the AEW kit).

So I filled it up using styrene & Perfect Plastic Putty..

With the interior painted - I used Airfix and other references for the interior colours, rather Revell's. I installed the glazing.

    Far less interior than Airfix's

With the interior weathered using Tamiya Weathering Powders - the cockpit & rear cabin were glued in place (no tape needed either).

One last look at the interior, before the sides are glued together..

I only needed Tamiya Low-tack masking tape to hold the sides together while the glue cures.

Flashback to the AEW build - I deployed Insulating tape.

Finally with fuselage sides together, I checked the CofG..

I'm pretty much there with nose weight - I can still add more if needed

I may get some building done, but I'm waiting for some aftermarket to arrive for her

Everyone has that one kit that thwarts them - Matchbox's Fairey Seafox was mine.

Previous attempts 30 odd years ago ended in failure, but not this time..

The Kit, not much to it, but aftermarket decals were required..

The build, straightforward - but I replaced a couple of parts with copper wire, to add strength.

Airbrushed some silver, where it would be difficult to do once construction was complete.

    Getting into uncharted territory here..

Boldly going where I've never gone before..

    Final bits added

So on with the Mustang build.

With the arrival of the correct masks, I could get on with painting the Mustang..

    Multiple metallic colours were used.

    Adding the decals.

    Weathering & final assembly.

So here's the second past of the build - I'm not going to over narrate the build as it follows the instructions..

Yes that is the Attacker lurking..

    Aft deck complete..

A Midships on the way to completion...

So another build, this time it's the Revell (USA) Lockheed Ventura Mk.II (RAF).

    The Box-Art, Sprues, etc.

    The build.

The basic structure went together extremely well indeed.

After a month or so sitting in the box, it was brought back out to try and finish it.

First up, I cleaned up all the seams and then applied all the glazing masks to the fuselage.

I built up the engines and fairings (plus a few other bits) and test fitted everything together.

I then sprayed all the glazing (where it isn't masked) interior green.

While the fuselage was drying, I built & part painted the dorsal turret and test fitted to the fuselage.

The turret was then masked up with the supplied masks and painted interior green.

Now this is where things get interesting - with the fuselage in a coat of Black Mr Finishing Surfacer 1500 (thinned 50-50 with Rapid thinners for Airbrushing). I wonder if there where any alternative decal & camo schemes. I found one..

So with the decals purchased, I sprayed up the fuselage Nato Black, in preparation for masking.

    That's all for now..
