  1. . Your layout always makes me feel nostalgic . I spent many days when I was 15 /16/17 years of age bashing 20s on the Derby - Llandudno then off for a spin on the coast behind some n.b ped or duff or tractor . Even had 47323 dragging a dead DMU down the Blaenau line once .

I only actually did the coast a few times, one of those places I always planned to do more of  but never actually  did as much as I wanted.

If you have any pics from back then feel free to add them to my layout thread.

  2. Hi Peter . I think that's what it's all about for us modern image people . Bringing back a slice of the bashing days that are long gone... although wait a minute... large logo 37/4s on the Cumbrian coast !?! Hmm... ha ha

Who would have thought 37/4s back hauling passenger trains. I got them in when I was over this time last year. We had a good day out but it wasn't the Scottish Highlands. I had some good trips back in the day.

  3. Hi Legomanbiffo,

I would love to hear the new class 33 as I have your older one which I think is pretty good. Was it ELRs 33/1 that you recorded? I remember seeing the pushers all the time living between Southampton and Bournemouth, I always thought they sounded more Thrashey ( if thats a word) than the standards.

Also do you do reblows? I have a Bachmann 37 which I am pretty sure is a v4 chip, and your 37/4 would be just the job.

    Cheers Peter.

  4. I had my first visit to the East Lancs last year. It was good to see 37901 the loco sounded in pretty good health. I went for a Bash on the 24 though, well nice.

I am thinking of putting sound in my class 08 do you think sugar cude speakers are the way to go, I haven't heard about them before. I am fairly new to this DCC lark.

    Cheers Peter.

  5. Hi Pugsley,

Always nice to see your latest creation, and very nice too. The bogie mod certainly improves the look of the loco, I have recently done it to a couple of mine. The weathering looks great and not over done, I might have another look at the weathering on my bogies yours looks great.

Looking forwards to seeing the big one painted, glad to hear its a runner, you did alot of work on that.

    Cheers Peter.

  6. Hi Jon,

I have both early and late class 47s and apart from the class 57 loops on the early bogies there isn't much difference.

The brake linkage missing on each corner of the Bachmann bogies comes in the detail pack, there should be 8 but my early class 47s came with only 4. They are a sort of y shape and certainly improve the look of the bogie when fitted, though they aren't the best moulding. Pete Harvey etched steps might be worth looking at too.

I also extended the fine pipework running along the top of one side of each bogie as it stops to short at the ends. I think the early bogies had this both sides, so I removed it.

If you want a few pics to explain things better I will wack a couple on my layout thread.

    Cheers Peter.

  7. Hi Jon,

Nice work on the 47s I have a Vi 47401 which I am planning on renumbering and although I do like my Bachmann 47s the Vi one does look good though the gap between the body and bogies is too big. I am thinking of trying your method but I am wondering if lowering the body makes the loco sit to low.

    Hi Jon020,

I have done some work on the underframes on my Bachmann 47 though probably not to your standard, it would be a good starting point for yours though, let me know if you want some pics. The centre wheels do sit a bit lower on some Bachmann models which causes them to rock a bit, you can file out the plastic a bit I fixed my class 37 this way, though P4 is another thing.

    love the Halloween Tangerine.

    Cheers Peter.
