    Hi @P.C.M,

Some photos to highlight the shade of our blue and demonstrate black roof colour. Both photos credit and copyright of Tim Rogers.

    Cheers!

Hi Fran, I have had a look at the blue and think the Bachmann is probably a tad light and yours a bit dark.

I had a look at coach roofs too. It does seem that your pic shows a black roof but it think most came out with a dark grey which weathered down to an almost black.

I took a few pics with the phone so not great quality but certainly show coach ends being black and the roof dark grey.

  2. I finally received my MK2b today and it's a very good model but I think the Trans Pennine  blue is too dark. I know it was mentioned a few pages back that it's a good match but I think the   Bachmann MK2s are  a better match to the real thing from pictures I looked at. I will have to paint the roof too as I am pretty sure they were not blck on the real thing.

Thanks that's useful to know. Did you need to respray the front to accommodate the headlight or was it already a match?

    Great modelling as usual.

    Cheers

    Simon

    Thanks Simon,

The yellow ends haven't been painted. I have added the Replica high intensity headlights and just painted them with a humbrol yellow 154 I think. I did add just a little bit of orange. Which seems to be a really good match.

    Cheers Peter.

Did you use a kit as such for your 45/0 to 45/1 conversion or your own made up parts (for the roof). I'm planning on doing something similar with my Bachmann 45/0.

    Looking good.

    Simon

Hi Simon, I didn't use a kit I just filled and sanded the area. One part of the boiler can be removed. I filled it with plasticard and finished off with filler.

The look great. I just couldn’t get over the droopy cab windscreens on the Heljan Peak. I would have liked 45106 but they’re outlined in silver/light grey which makes them stand out even more!

Thanks mate, I thought I could live with the shape but the work I would have to put into a Heljan model wasn't that far of what I would have to do to a Bachmann model for me to be happy with it. Plus the Bachmann run so well.

    My Heljan one didn't.

Remember seeing 106 back in the day such a shame it caught fire.

    Cheers peter.

Very nice peaks here Pete, had good catch up here on all your top modelling..

Thanks Mate, I thought doing three loco's together would be quicker but I think thats not really the case. I did have a bit of a balls up with 45037 but managed to save it.

I have also finished a 7mm 37 too so a good start  to the year.

    Cheers Peter.

The 45s look really good Pete, particularly 45110 with the orange cant rail. That’s the same one I want to do, but the lining is putting me off!

I agree about the Heljan versus Bachmann too. The Bachmann just looks a lot more like how I remember them. I need to upgrade the speakers on mine, they were an early sound fit and have cheap tinny speakers. The modern ones are so much better.

Thanks Mate, Yeah the lining was a worry, The main section was a presfix transfer which actually went on quite well the sections round the cab were hand painted.

45110 has the Bachmann V5 sound chip which isn't that bad.

    Cheers Peter.

    Hi Peter,

That grid looks bob on. nice and subtle.

Ive got a great fondness for the 56's in particular the Romanian ones having seen them on Daw Mill to Didcot jobs as a kid and as a result I think I'll get myself a blue one.

Love how the bogie detail really comes alive with some gentle weathering.

    :)

Thanks mate the detail dies really pop on the bogies with the weathering.

It was the western region 56s I remember early on. they used to work the Stone trains out if Westbury over to Eastleigh and Fareham.

  9. I was a shunter at Eastleigh east yard for a while in the early 90s.

We used to loose shunt although management didn't like us doing it they used to let it go on.

We did get a bollocking for loose shunting car flats and TTAs one time. 😁

We also did Fly shunting a few times which is different to loose shunting in that the shunt loco pulls the wagon towards the points. The shunt loco backs off just enough to loosen the coupler then speeds up past the point which is then changed before the wagon comes past. Hopefully the wagon has enough speed to go in clear to be pinned down.😁

    Cheers Peter.

  10. I am calling this one done. It's taken so long to do, when I finally got the body on I managed to break one of the tail lights then noticed the cab windows at one end aren't quite pushed in properly.

I will leave it for now . I don't want to break anything else taking the body back off.

Mine arrived today. A similar job awaits - hopefully to a least a fraction of your ability!

Class 56’s in ‘86 aren’t that common, although a few did the fly ash trains in ‘83 when they built the Conway bypass.  Mine will nevertheless find themselves on the Point if Ayr MGR and the Stanlow tanks.

My excuse for running a 56 is that the fly ash trains were still running in 1986.

That really does bring the loco to life. Enough weathering to make it look workaday without overcooking it. Very nice indeed.

    All the best ,

    Paul

Thanks Paul, I didn't want to over do it on the weathering. Though some certainly did get very dirty. My 56 when it arrives might get a touch more grime.😁

    Cheers Peter

    That looks fantastic. Really convincing.

I am convinced Cavalex, Accurascale or Rapido will release new spec models of HBA/HEA hoppers soon. I'd definitely be interested.

    Thanks Rich,

My HEAs are the older Replica models which I think are a nice model  but certainly not up to today's standard.

Hi Peter,  Thanks for the post.  I love my sector Class 37’s and the Large Logo on the mk2’s completes the trio.  The 50 on the PW is typical of the once a week from Bristol East to Bescot.  Really enjoying running my heritage collection.  Hope all is well with you in Australia.

    Regards Nigel

All good here mate, not the best summer we have ever had but it's been warm this week. I remember seeing the DCWA 50s about I got a few pics of some round Exeter. Then some ended up in the NSE pool when the reliability of the other 50s got really bad.

    Cheers Peter.

With all the ribbed mk1s now dealt with, there’s a couple more weathering jobs I want to do before turning my focus to the track (and getting some trains running again, which I’m sorely missing).

Bachmann 47 436 was one of my first acquisitions. A large logo 47 is essential, and as we’ve just been discussing, you can’t turn one down when it’s available. Unfortunately the ETH jumper is in the wrong place, and more problematic, it was banger blue until 1987. For recent joiners, I like everything to be correct for September 1986, plus or minus a month or two.

Lots of 47s were in large logo blue by late 86, but not many with this style of battery box, and none with the lower ETH jumper.

    IMG_4862.jpeg.a5becd4565fc3d4dac03f7f2cbb863ef.jpeg

Getting ready for its new identity, the last two digits have been removed (using a plastic scraper), the ETH jumpers removed and the axle box covers painted white. My chosen loco had distinctive yellow timken covers in 86, so the white is just undercoat as the yellow would take too many coats on the black.

I really do like the Bachmann 47 in this livery, I think it really captures the prototype. I’m going to try really hard not to spanner this up!

For your time period you probably have to remove the Arial I have done it on mine. Bit of a pain as you have to patch paint the roof.

    Cheers Peter.

    Hi Peter

Cant believe I missed this thread!

Cracking stuff, those 20's look mint.

    Desp :)

Thanks Mate, still a few loco's on the workbench and the layout is getting there slowly. I am still doing the 00 too so its finding the time.

    Cheers Peter.
