  1. In spite of the circumstances, it's good to see Debs post again. I think she knows that we all wish her the very best that can be.
  2. It's nearly Hallowe'en. It's the return of Walter Gabriel.
  3. Thanks, Tony. No, the AWorks facility is not compatible now. I'll certainly chase it up as you've suggested. It has the appearance of quite a sophisticated programme but it's a steep curve to get through the basics.
  4. Anyone written their own spreadsheet in Libra Office? The example I wrote in AppleWorks lasted me for many years but Works is no longer available on my iMac. I'm having a brain shortage and can't find out how to specify the number of cells and columns before I even launch into giving them values etc.,. Thanks for any help.
  5. Our nearest M@&&!€@%S Supermarket (a 12 mile round trip) has just shot itself in the foot. With Lidl, Aldi, Home Bargains all newcomers, it has decided to change the Tills for DIY payment. Exit customers. Apart from a Factory Shop fairly nearby, that place is my idea of hell on earth.
  6. Tend to agree about fireworks. We've all seen the big shows organised at huge expense. Do I need to see them again, or indeed back garden efforts? Not really. They've just become a dangerous nuisance in my personal view (says he who used to take 100 bangers to firework parties when I was a kid).
  7. The people that feature in ads for HSL chairs are beginning to worry me. Not only have they bought a chair covered in a ludicrous fabric which has the capacity to fling them into the fireplace and crush the cat in its works, but they've spent so much on the chair that they can only afford one coffee table between them and no other furniture.
  8. We don't use those colonial type facilities, Rick.
  9. Those that have experienced the high winds might be well advised to check guttering for leaves and debris before heavy rain sets in.
  10. Still here. Losses so far: One large Earthenware pot which is why I'm up. I'd settle for that.
  11. The Sahara sand phenomenon is an annual event here more or less. Cars, Sun Room roof etc., all have to be cleaned afterwards. Made a change to see the more amber colour this time. High winds in progress but amazingly the overhead power is still on. BBBand has been off but nothing new there. Successful visit to the Vet with old cat. She is still with us but I could have bought 20 cats with the cost.
  12. DD Towers is still standing in the yellow light I associate with something nasty brewing. Occasional gusts at present but nothing abnormal. Our main problem will be that the trees are still more or less fully leaved and there are a lot of them nearby. High winds will bring a few down together with overhead power lines. Broadband doesn't need any extra assistance to go off. Have to take the semi feral cat to the vets for 2pm (she is very old now and has a problem with her eye - probably scratched while fighting). She has been deaf for a few months. She's a game old lady so hope we will be bringing her back again. MiL is still extant. Totally pixilated and with no control of her functions. Don't think the Vet could help.
  13. I like mine better - yours doesn't give the attitude he conveyed at the time.
  14. It makes a better story if she lived in Seven Two oaks!
  15. I'm told that tomorrow is the anniversary of Mr Fish's famous forecast. "Don't be so stupid, woman - of course there won't be a hurricane!" I wonder what happened to her - unless she was blown away. We are more or less in line with projected path (which can still change) and the bulk of the trees still have their leaves which makes them very dangerous in high winds here. Good luck everybody - take care.
  16. Dangerous! Folk seem to wander onto the crossing at will. Given its proximity to the tunnel, a train would be in a pedestrian's lap before it was heard. There are various bells and lights but we know how well they are observed. Taken on the Renfe 1.
  17. Comparing it to the West Indian gentleman who was pushing it 1:1 This pic. shows an unusual use for old rails. Sleepers made from cut up rails and concrete blocks at each end.
  18. Didn't get any decent railway pictures so I thought you might enjoy this:
  19. Here is my usual holiday train study. As I was in mainland Europe it was impossible to attempt a more comprehensive survey. Although ... The Renfe 1 coastal railway to/from Barcelona is always impressive. Runs to time, is frequent and of an acceptable level of cleanliness. Economic to use, too.
  20. Most of my 'holiday' would go under a 'Politics' heading so I'll leave out a description. Maybe just say that I was disgusted by the storm troupers assault on passive crowds - watching women being beaten with riot sticks and thrown down stone steps is not my idea of holiday viewing. 800+ casualties.
  21. MANY HAPPY RETURNS OF THE DAY, BoD!
  22. As previously advertised I will be leaving home early tomorrow for my jollies. Rang BT to ask for a wake up call and changed my mind when I heard the cost: £12.09 !!!! Lucky I'm a BT customer or it would have been more.
