  1. Just wondering if anyone treats the mdf before building? My layout such as it is is in a garden shed which with damp issues may well be prone to warping? Does the mdf need sealing?
  2. Not sure how well these will look on here. This is the shop front facade for the corner building. I've uploaded them to shape ways and emailed the pdfs to work so I can print them off, resize them and produce a mock up on the model. Still need to create the shop window frames.
  3. Just a short mocked up street scene. The new building is an almost built as it should be kit from Bachmann Spectrum range. US variety store but I'm thinking perhaps a Woolworths? I've been drawing up shop front for the grey corner building which once finished I'll get printed
  4. A little work on the Insurance Company offices. Painted to resemble one of the many Victorian terracotta faience buildings, with a granite faced ground floor. The lettering was something that was everywhere before the war but seemed to disappear in the sixties. Oh by the way, Middleshire, is a county from the Agatha Christie novels.
  5. This is the city's major department store, name yet to be decided. I've drawn up some shop windows and doors for 3d printing. It's ideal for mass production of identical items. Here printed off on card so I can mock up the facade. Not sure on the central roof structure yet. The present one is intended to be similar to the roof shape on the corner pavilions but it's not doing it for me.
  6. Thanks guys, I've got the scale link fret but was looking for the more ornate ones. Dean
  7. I am looking for some brass Fleur de lys roof ridge tiles. I am almost certain mike's models did them back in the day. Photo shows the style of thing
  8. Why finish one project when you can start another. This is the back of the Kibri townhouse used to create the building above. Bit of cutting and shunting and we have another kitbashed city building. Sides are from an auhagen kit. This I think will either be a bank, a pub or an in insurance office.
  9. More slates arrived today so lot more roof done. Will finish that off tomorrow and fettle some chimney stacks to match the roof pitch.
  10. Is this what the exciting new announcement of a new train on Facebook four hours ago is all about?
  11. A parade of chimney stacks and crown pots. These arrived today from Model Railway Scenes. Nice crisp prints and beautiful dainty pots. I've added a stone cap to the stacks If I have a complaint it's that the odd dimensions of the stacks. There are two wide for a single flue and not really wide enough for a double flu. I think they are intended to be one flue wide by two deep, but again the depth is just a bit two deep for two flues by half a brick. Anyway I don't think the six pots look two crowded on top. The do a range of stacks with various angles depending on the pitch of your roof, of these that you can cut to your own angle. Now I need to finish of the slates and finally decide where to place the stacks so as to serve the notional rooms below.
  12. So made a start with the redutex roof slates. Not much done as I only bought one sheet to use on something else. I'm quite pleased with it. Cuts easily and is nice and flexible, allowing it to be pushed into awkward corners and the trimmed. Other projects in the pipeline, the towns monument to Admiral Lord Nelson, made from an old cast clock column and a delivery prado figure. Just a pedestal to knock up to put it all on and of course a coat of paint. I've long yearned to get the Walthers Milwaukee Station and finally succumbed last September. With some modification such as new arched central entrance and ground floor shops this will become the front of the town's market hall
  13. So roof all shaped up,skylight left over from Walthers Union station added. I'm going to try the redutex self adhesive slates, a first for me so wish me luck. Chimneys bought from one of the 3d printers, Model Railway Scenes, if any knows them. 3d printing has made me lazy.
  14. Any chance of restoring the photos
  15. Roof shaping up Roof at the back still to shape up, and I'm thinking of some kind of spire/cupola on the corner and perhaps some ornamental dormers.
  16. Thanks, Tatty. Yes lots of work to do on the roof, including tying those gables to the main roof.
  17. Wellington chambers has had a coat of grey and the windows have been installed. Now got to work out the roof.
  18. Well just had payment taken for the first of two full sets that I had on pre-order
  19. Allan Downes used to use wood stain to great effect. might be a vid on YouTube
  20. I've seen this used before and it's impressive enough for what you're thinking of
  21. Like others I applaud his decision to make the diagnosis public, wish his majesty well with his treatment and a speedy recovery and wish the press would leave him and his family alone and stop the endless and fruitless speculation!
  22. Upgrades of their Collett sunshine stock would fill a whole. I'm not expecting concertinas or dreadnoughts welcome as those would be, but as the Dapol toplights when we get them will be the steel plated type, they could still do the earlier panelled varieties
  23. According to Wikipedia and I am sure I've read it on a thread here, when the blue/grey livery was first introduced underframes were painted brown, later changed to black
