  1. Can anyone help with the above? I only need one really - right hand side of the loco when viewed head on - but I’d happily take a full set of 4. Oh, and if you have the steps that would be fantastic 😊
  2. Nottingham (Bulwell) MRC's exhibition at the Victoria Baths was mine. My late Dad was a member and took me for a few years in succession which really whet my appetite for model railways. I think Dad was helping to operate a finescale GW branch terminus called Rhossilli, which he was very enthusiastic about despite being a dyed in the wool LNER/GN man. One year he overcame his aversion to diesels and bought me a newly released Lima Class 50 (043 - Eagle in LL blue) for the princely sum of £9.50. I remember it like it was yesterday. Thanks Dad.
  3. With some Bachmann locos the numbers can be removed by gentle but firm pressure with a cocktail stick alone. The numerals seem to crack and flake off due to the friction. If it makes a squeaky noise when you do it then that seems to be about the right amount of pressure. Not scientific I know, but it works for me!
  4. I might have some of these if you are still looking. If you drop me a PM I'll check later.
  5. Have you thought about abandoning the idea of points completely and using a sliding traverser?
  6. That does look like it, I think you have solved it for me. Many thanks!
  7. It was in a loco (can’t remember which one) that came to me as part of a job lot. I use analogue so these things are a mystery to me I’m afraid. Thanks for the replies so far though.
  8. I’m with Steven on this, and I’ve ranted about it on another thread. Why Railmatch and Phoenix can’t get their acts together and sell a product that is fit for purpose is beyond me. As mentioned above, Halfords (and others) seem to manage it.
  9. There’s a photo of it at Fort William in July 1958 in British Rail Fleet Survey Vol.1.
  10. I think I can recall seeing photos of Class 45's at Perth (I'm sure I'm not imagining it) but I am certain I have never seen or heard any evidence of one traversing the Highland line north of Perth to Inverness. As stated previously, they did venture up the East Coast to Aberdeen occasionally in later years.
  11. Because it is a convenient way to disguise the ugly base of a tree with something fun...?
  12. Nice idea and back story. As an Invernessian I understand the appeal of the area. Not sure about the Class 31 though...
  13. Mine needs to be used (ie the listing started) between 6/12 and 9/12. Not sure if everyone gets the same time frame.
  14. 24147 had 25 style boxes with fairings at both ends.
  15. Looks fantastic, a lovely tribute to your Dad and a brilliant asset to house the layout. A question if I may... I'm about to upgrade my single brick skin, single detached garage (insulation, flooring, etc,) to turn it into what could be described as a hobby room or home office if I ever decided to sell the house, but it will hopefully accommodate my yet-to-be-built layout. I'm planning on replacing the existing up and over door with a side-hinged insulated door with a 1/3, 2/3 split, so it still looks like a garage from the outside, but will be totally weatherproof and completely insulated. Do you think I could get away without the insulated door to reduce costs? I wondered if you had done anything, insulation-wise, with your main garage door?
  16. You haven’t really addressed the issues being discussed above though, have you?
  17. £3 max selling fee seems to have made a re-appearance. I have received the offer today.
  18. Me too with a £3 offer. Seems to be eBay casting the bait to see how many will bite.
  19. Poundland is good for parcel tape, bubble wrap and other wrapping essentials, and cheaper than a Post Office. Ebay’s £1 selling fee offers appear to have turned into £3 offers, (that’s the offer I received today at least, maybe the £1 offers will return), perhaps due to the new system and sellers not paying PayPal fees any more. Look within the model railway category on eBay and buy some flat pack boxes that are specifically designed to be the right size for locos/coaches. I recently bought 50 at less than a pound each. Royal Mail small parcels are a maximum of 45x35x16cm. Most single items of rolling stock will comfortably fit within those limits. Buying a postage label through EBay and printing at home reduces the cost of a 2nd Class transaction a little - by 20p I think but if anyone knows differently they can put me right! h Hope that helps a little.
  20. Just when I thought I’d model something a little different and (to me at least) special, George Dent goes and produces 44009 in the May edition of Modelrail! I rebuilt the nose at the number collision damaged end rather than sacrificing a 45/46 body . I haven’t yet attacked the roof or the bodyside grilles - that is next on the agenda, and you will see from the plasticard filler strip that my first attempt at the bonnet seam did not pass muster.
