  1. Spotted that a couple of weeks ago, they've cut a lot of the under growth out down there.
  2. Road surface around the yard entrance and down to the beck. Backs of boards 2 and 3 covered. And a first coat of paint on the culvert.
  3. Bit more brown and somewhere for the station building to sit.
  4. A bit more landscaping, this time at the back, just ordinary filler as there's no need for the texture like along the river bank and the road surface needs to be smooth.
  5. Some bits have gone brown. 'Nothing to eat here, you said there was good eating here...'
  6. To break up the plain lines of the slope on board 4 there's a drain from the road through the village that runs through a culvert under the railway and down into the beck. I'd cut a slot in the board top behind the railway ready for it then covered it all over with the landscape and now I've cut out the shape of the ditch on both sides. I've made the front of the culvert from plasticard and this slots under the board. I'm thinking for the slope down to the beck to make a stone chanel as its quite steep.
  7. Ah, the reason for the crane, another two loads ready for away. Well, he wouldn't want to get his boots wet... fettled the bridge planks to fit better and cut a notch in the ground to bed it in. Cut a slot out of the platform ramp to drop the signal in.
  8. And done. It will eventually be sunk into the platform ramp.
  9. Quite warm out there tonight so good progress with the ground work, the front of board 1 is covered, I've added a bit of a ridge where hedges will go. Leaving suitable gaps for gateways. Progressing well on board 2 now.
  10. Congratulations to Kevin for 6000 posts in Little Muddle, door still not up yet, despite the shed being knocked down and rebuilt over night...
  11. It's been a bit cold and damp out in the garage lately so the ground work has been paused and after the crane was finished my thoughts have turned towards some signals. I've made a start on the up starting/up platform - yard headshunt signal. All D&S and ex D&S parts. (The dolls are parallel, too close taking the photo!)
  12. The Eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed on the photos of the crane that there's a gap in the brickwork, I actually put the wrong photo on, I took a couple then noticed it, turned the base round and took some more, then picked the wrong one... The gap was left to make it easier to fix the brickwork on the wood disc, the gap would be hidden by the steps which have been added today. And a close up of the winding handle side. The capacity notice (in reality cast iron) is based on a photo in the NERA archive of the very similar crane in the yard at Greenhead on the Newcastle & Carlisle line (which in September 2023 was still there!), the photo shows the other side but I'm hoping there was one on each side.
  13. For a while I've been looking for a decent yard crane kit, 5/6 ton capacity would be ideal, while searching I came across this one, a 3d printed kit, as used on Semley and if its good enough to go on Semley its good enough for me! I got in touch but it would be a while before they could be printed as they were looking for someone new to print them. That was November and yesterday the kit arrived, started it yesterday afternoon and it just about fell together, very well thought out kit, with not many parts. You need to make a hook yourself and a winding handle. I've also built a base for it to stand on. 'Lift not to exceed 5 tons'
  14. All the paper is now on! And it really is starting to feel like the railway is running through a landscape. Work can now turn to covering that paper up, I've seen plenty of videos of people building dioramas of rivers and streams using 'Sculptamold', not easy if not impossible to source in this country, I found one place on the Web selling educational craft products so ordered some, after 2 months of it being delayed and delayed I gave up, asked for and got a refund, I asked why it's on their website and I was able to order it and pay for it when they didn't have any, the reply was that the website only shows what they sell not what they have in stock! Anyway, I found a similar product (although I've never used sculptamold) from Geek Gaming Scenics, after a first use it seems to work well, easy to mould with the back of a teaspoon and wet fingers, the only issue is it seems to go off in 5 minutes rather then the 15 minutes quoted on the box. I've been mixing 3 very heaped teaspoons with a splash of water in a small bowl (from an individual chr****as pudding) to a thick/stiff consistency, maybe I should add a little more water and it might stay soft a bit longer? It does seem to be doing the job OK though.
  15. Annoyingly no 'add to cart' on that one, does that mean it's not in stock?
  16. Got the wood edge around the back of the last two boards last night, filled with snow this morning and now getting it covered with paper, got on to the Darlington & Stockton times now (struggling to get used to them being that way round...)
  17. Unfortunately it was only valid last Friday and Saturday, will be driving passed a cooplands today... Will be calling at Bothams on our way through Whitby anyway and they're much better...
  18. According to my phone this was 3 years ago today.
