Certain coaches had roof tanks but others had them mounted underfloor.
Parkin Mk1 book covers this.
Yes vehicles built for the WR had roof mounted tanks. The long roof top filler pipes are the tell tale ….

Thank you for explaining the issue that I still don't understand. Because I have several H0 scale steam locos from America and Europe (Germany, Austria...), all of which have front and rear lights that work. It may be because the principles of operating locomotives in each country are different.
A fundamental difference is that away from the UK trains were fitted with headlamps to provide illumination - although whether braking was good enough to stop the train if an obstruction was spotted is a moot point!
As has been mentioned back up the thread lamps on the front on a loco in the UK never fulfilled that purpose in steam days …. They were merely there to indicate the class of the train being hauled to assist signalmen and other operating staff in identifying the train.
This means that to be credible headlamp positions on UK steam outline models cannot be fixed if realistic operation is to be modelled.
The same with tail lamps…. If a locomotive is hauling a train the lamp would be on the last vehicle of the train not on the locomotive so the same issue applies. The function of a tail lamp is to designate that the train is complete ….. no lamp, the train must have split!

32-066 is the latest - and only - class 43. The earlier models were class 42 ….. do you mean the central can motor version or the pancake motor type?

This months progress. Hugely time consuming task of getting the 21T hopper Tytherington fleet together. All handrails added (the toughest part of these Parkside kits). Decals now beginning to be added and some preliminary weathering, plus liquid lead added to the underside of the hopper, plus instanters. These will be running as a fitted head with a mix of ex LNER 1/100 and BR 1/146 diag in both bauxite and grey livery. Both original and rebodied wagons are to be in the rake. Stone decals applied to the first few- I’ve no way of matching original running numbers as photos just aren’t there- however I’ve done my best to match livery/rebody to prototypical wagons.
A rake of 14 wagons so far aiming for 20 or so plus a pair of brake vans either end.

That will be a cracking g train Neil. Looking forwards to seeing your clays run again too ….- 2

I did see them …. Just about!!! In later years there was a train of acetic acid in tanks from up north to South Wales …. Smelt just like vinegar. As it ran from Saltend to name it the Salt-end-vinegar was just too tempting….- 2

Thanks Paul …. And of course Worcester had vinegar in addition to sauce …. Hill Evans was the company, and hence the vinegar branch. IIRC it came out in wooden casks though …- 2

Isn't it about time somebody did a Lee & Perrins tanker, return empty to Worcester?
They've got a loco, 37185.
In case anyone is tempted that will be Lea and Perrins. Probably needs a glass lined tank to prevent corrosion!- 4

My dear Lord Bullock of Abbotswood,
Your photographic collection shows the very positive attitude you have towards your peasants it getting them to tend to your lands in such a neat style. I therefore congratulate you on your endeavors.
I do look after them … would not want them trashing the place!!!- 3

There was certainly one 74XX in GWR livery operating on the Bala to Blaenau branch in the 1950s and also 7788, operating in the Gloucester area right up until the early 1960s and I suggest she was scrapped in that livery.
Both locos had BR smokebox door numberplates, however.
Tom Foster did a really splendid job on the 74XX, which he used on his Cwm Prysor layout.
4628 was a Gloucester then Worcester loco …. Went for scrap in 1964 still wearing GWR on her tanks…- 1

He's not the only one, Fran!
I've got a set of your P4 wheels here, getting itchy flanges!
And you two are not alone …. Got a couple of VF WR ones on order but most WR boiler fitted locos were RSH jobbies …- 2

The 2857 group have followed the 4566 group in moving to a trust so that the challenges the pig faces can be avoided. I'm not sure the pigs future is uncertain. It will just be much delayed whilst things are sorted out. I hope certain things now in play might help to resolve those issues. Both those groups were raising money at Kidder towards working towards having more money to put forward for overhalls.
The company now only owns Gordon - there are certain covenants in place which prevents its sale and Hagley Hall. The Babby aka Hinton Manor is owned by the Charitable Trust. All the other locos are owned by individual groups or individuals.
The challenges are the ever increasing costs of restoration of locos.
That being said the railway overall is in a better financial position than it was this time last year. Less paid staff and heads of heads of heads means we are making more headway. Its not out of the woods yet, but moving in the right direction.
On the plus side 4150 should be finished this year with 82045 not far behind along with TV from its intermediate overhaul and 7802 with its new cylinder.
Cheers… it sounds like as often happens not everything is in the public domain. Hope they can move to fruition.
Yes 2857 and 4566 groups certainly had a strong presence at the weekend along with the 42968 group. Good to see …. And hopefully they are getting a bit more help and support from the current management regime than the 813 group got from the last one . The railway certainly feels much more like it used to and seems to be innovating to create as much interest as possible eg the 37263 hauled train on Sunday evening. The return of more accessibly price on train dining might be a good move too but based on attendances at recent special weekends hopefully the railway can get back on financial track in 2024.

When's the new build supposed to be finished?
You can follow progress here.
It’s a brave man that makes predictions but the boiler is making progress and she is starting to look like a Standard 3mt tank ….

It was the last day of the pgs boiler ticket. Its been incredible and such a great loco. None of us know when she might be restored again as there are complications with some of the shareholders having passed away and stories of the children of one wanting the engine selling to 'get their money' It needs alot spending, for a start is a complete new set of tyres!. I'd love to drive her again in my lifetime but who knows.
Locos coming out of ticket now seem to be facing an uncertain future. One would hope those with private owners have a more secure future on the SVR than company owned assets but it remains to be seen … has a decision been made on 2857 yet? The owning society had a good presence at Kidderminster over the weekend , let’s hope that’s a good omen. -
Seeing and listening to this beauty in the sunshine at the SVR today only served to remind me what a super model Accurascale have provided for our enjoyment…,
