  1. The return of Cuthbert the Caterpillar!

  2. Still, a great loss that all that round rodding was removed. Last time I looked, Blue Anchor had some round rodding to the the down loop facing point. And Arley (SVR) had some. But it has more or less ceased. Sights like this at Tywyn in 1973 are gone. Pity I didn't have a better camera at the time. By the time I did, the lie by had been removed and square rodding took the place.
  3. Here is the lead off from the box at Williton in 1991. Round rodding. I believe this has all been removed as the points are power worked now.
  4. The large prairies only moved to Barrow Rd after the closure of St Philips Marsh. And those 61xx I believe moved out of London after dieselisation. For example 4131 was at SPM, but in lined green with the later totem.
  5. I'll take your Wickham and raise it! Ever wondered what was underneath?
  6. This must be a scene that has changed beyond recognition - Portishead in 1980.
  7. The only train I was on that got to Portishead, the Avon & Somerset rambler of 24/10/78. The train had been delayed by a couple of weeks - so it was getting dark by the time we got to Portishead.
  8. Really Nick, and not far from you - is it still there? Saxby & Farmer at Stoke Cannon.
  9. I watched some video, and counted the wheel revolutions to give speeds of an unfitted coal train with a maximum of 20MPH, but an awful lot slower in most of the video.
  10. Just got back from being in town - and now I see this message ...
  11. Machine in 1 is intact and has the calibration weight, while machine in 2 is derelict. Both are GW examples.
  12. 4933 was allocated to Pontypool Rd, Westbury, Oxford, Didcot, Worcester, Leamington Spa, and back to Westbury between 1950- 1960. Take your pick!
  13. Filled car with fuel £78! I've never spent so much.

At that rate of comparison, the fuel sounds almost reasonable!  However its not the same as the rake of Hornby Railroad Mk1s that could be obtained before things went mad....

You think that's bad. More importantly,  have you seen the price of Nickel now ?

Better get your PECO streamline while you still can............

Burgulars will be breaking into houses to rip up model railway track to sell to scrap dealers, and ignore all the expensive locos, etc.  Just like the real thing!

  14. Prior to 1949 Congresbury had one at the junction to Blagdon - so that's two branch lines!
  15. Dunkerton Colliery Halt - Camerton Branch - not in its glory days!
  16. Suggest put the signals under the box they relate to.
  17. What did Galen Rowell say? "F8 and be there" The real advantage of the phone camera is that it's there - in your pocket. Having said that, I've just treated myself to an M4/3 camera, plus an adapter so I can attach my Zuiko lenses to it. Plus I've dug out my notes on the Zone system of exposure. Ansel Adams has a lot to answer for! My experiments with the Zone system and some slide film I made many years ago - the details are lost. A better film camera that records the exposure information would have been good (didn't the Nikon F4 record it on the side of the film?). The exif data from digital does give that crucial information.
  18. You were lucky to recover those images, this picture of Bath Green Park was taken C1976, and was eventually processed about 12 years ago - it makes for an atmospheric shot though!
  19. A comment on what I found with my Epson compared to the Canon. The shadow detail was amazingly better, so much so that I would like to re-scan the negatives I did on the earlier machine. Mine is slow - compared to the unit you have linked to, but what happens if the negative/slide is under/over exposed? How much control do you have over the scan?
  20. I have an old Epson scanner - nearly 20 years! At one point I had a Canon scanner - fairly good results, but on the upgrade to W7, no longer supported. Meanwhile, the Epson scanner built for XP is still supported. Although my computer can't be upgraded to W11, I checked and the scanner will still be supported! So a vote for Epson.
