Hello again Mick, I have just tried leaving a commnet and I am offered the chance to leave an annonymous comment or to sign in with my Google account (of which we have many!)
Regards Ray
Clicked the comment option small box and the screen is blank/not allowing any typing?? I have a Twitter account, so no idea what is wrong .It would explain lack of comments however !!

Hi Ray,
By coincidence I have just remotored another Q6. No motors on ebay , I managed to find one on "Ali Express" which was the right size. Following your thread it was a easy conversion and is now running and cool !!.
I looked at you Blog but was unable to make a comment ?, do you have to subscribe ?
cheers

I have just acquired a Oxford J27 . I have read the comment re the Reversing Rod (Thanks). I have removed the obvious front and rear screws , the Body will not budge . Is there another screw hidden somewhere else please ??.

Dave Bradwell does numerous castings for the J27, highly recomended as is his J26/J27 kit.

Made by K's. Good luck getting that lot inside the body. Mine has a 1015 motor and a High Level gearbox.

Ray,
I have just looked at my secondhand Hornby Q6 63443 which appears to be virtually new. I have run it on a rolling road for a hour so far, the body is very slightly warm at this stage, the motor runs well in all of the speed range. How long did yours take ( approx ) to get to the stage that it required it to be changed please. I am undecided whether to leave mine as it is now.
I have already bought the replacement motor you mentioned above earlier , this has been tested and runs well without any load.
cheers
Mick

Nice video ,the old MGB at the end was a cracker too. (not to sure about the "colour" !!).

Hornby spent all the wedge on the new tooling !!
Bizarre situation ,where Hornby have either lost, broken or cant access (why?) original tools. They are doing the same on the P2 excellent tender available, so why are Hornby do a new tooling with awful moulded handrails and perhaps other faults on arrival?
Nice conversion

Finally
One thing that does let the King A1/1 down are the resin smoke deflectors , without checking I believe these are now available as etches? The resin ones on the A2/3 I have built are ok once painted but etched is always superior on thinner items. Hopefully a etch will become available for replacement cabs on the A2/3 version ( I have run out of the much superior DJH etched version).

I have built a PDK A1/1 and as far as I can see in the limited photos of the Graeme King Conversion it is superior to the kit as supplied for a number of reasons.
For a non finescale modeler the Hornby version will actually go round curves , the PDK version struggles to go around 36" curves as not enough sideplay was designed into the chassis , a fact I never realised until it was built. The Hornby version has a excellent chassis ready built whereas any kit will only run as good as the modeller who builds it can achieve.
The resin boiler is reasonably detailed however I prefer the Hornby as once the top join is filled it looks much better. It is also easier to work with than the resin version being soft and soapy feeling.
A number of small parts are nowhere the quality of the Hornby version which much better detailed and the correct sizes.
Some of the etched body parts were incorrect size and/or poorly detailed.
The Hornby Tenders is a superb moulding and has the edge on the etched version I can live with thicker sides on the Hornby.
I also have a NuCast A2/1 which is light years away from any of the current rtr models available.

Re tender is the coal removable or have you cut it out ?

A real shame you have to use the lovely Kingfisher for the conversion. A real pain Hornby dont sell the bodies seperately.
Etches are very effective. Are you adding the more detail ? etched letters/numbers etc?

Coming on nicely. One point your firebox handrail looks to go upto the right ?

It maybe the camera .
Your front buffers are reaching for the sky. I had the same problem on mine it was due to the resin casting being too long where it meets the chassis,.
As a result it was pushing the front of the footplate upwards.
Easy cure cut the bottom off the offending resin part, there is enough resin left for the securing screw.
In case you dont know DMR do the smoke deflectors for £2.00

I paint area to be rivetted with Archers rivets white. This makes it very easy for lining up etc. Then overpaint with correct colour.
