  1. I must say mine has no problems on points, most of my points are weathered and dirty. It would probably sort out your problem to have a stay alive if you did not want to take the loco apart to mess around with contacts.
  2. Interestingly the legomanbiffo sound chip came with a variety of speakers, including two the same as Roads and Rails except not pre wired with a plug. I have the tiny speaker and plug supplied with the loco so I may plug that in and see if it makes a difference
  3. Mine has been running faultlessly, I do have big curves on my layout though, nothing is loose or fallen off. Installing the sound chip myself was easy, especially with the Roads and Rails speaker modification, everything just plugged in no soldering and plenty of room for the speakers which sit just above the bogies. Lights all work as advertised. Any disappointment I have is with the gas turbine sound (F3) which is quite quiet almost unobtrusive. My childhood memories were of a much louder gas turbine whine. I would turn that volume up if I knew how? I have a lokprogrammer but am a bit nervous on that at the moment, so any hints would be appreciated. My overall impression of this loco is excellent, and I can live with the quiet gas turbine sound. A beautiful model evoking my memories of seeing the prototype when working and me as a youngster thinking it looked like something from space, speaking of which, has anyone else noticed that the front of the black/silver version looks like Darth Vader?
  4. Have been running mine in gently, looks stunning, but some of the bag o’ bits are a bit guesswork and will stay in the bag. All lights working well, just need my sound chip and speakers to bring it to life now.
  5. Where is the evidence for that, I give up!
  6. Yes I did, and I will test before the Gaydon show. For me to get a ping it meant that someone else with the app had got a positive result. I registered, tested and got my result back in less than 48hours, its not difficult if you have the app. I have had my say now. My result post GETS was negative thankfully.
  7. The app works well, its the people who ignore them that are not working very well. The point is someone who probably knew they were infected decide to attend the show knowing they may infect others. That is a complete disregard for the safety of other people. We are very close to another lockdown, irresponsible behaviour will ruin it for everyone, the shows will be cancelled and we will be back to square one. Ignoring the app (or the pings if you get one) is crass stupidity.
  8. Hi Richard The speakers look as if they are attached to the underside of the circuit board and sit above the bogies. What did you attach them with?
  9. I have had a ping from the Covid police to say I have been in contact with someone with Coronavirus. Given that it was after GETS and I have not had any other close proximity contacts I am a little disappointed. I feel fine but it is an inconvenience.
  10. Well, my money went out over a week ago. However, at GETS Oliver said they would start shipping this week. Given they had a lot of staff there, I imagine they are taking a little time to get sorted after a busy weekend.
  11. Thee OO gauge Class 59 will probably not be built until Accurascale do it now
  12. Does anyone know how to get rid of the infuriating advertisements at the right hand side of the screen
  13. This should not become a debate as to whether you wear masks or not. In this country, at present we have a choice, but bearing in mind we still have the worst record of infections and deaths in Europe (and a good part of the world), that should tell you that this pandemic is not over buy any stretch. Common sense should be your guiding principle. I am a retired health care professional with experience in both respiratory and intensive care settings and I have to say some of the logic for not taking sensible precautions I have seen expressed on this thread beggar belief. And yes, I wore a mask to GETS, I wear a mask in any shop, and I will be wearing a mask to the Gaydon show, but you are free to decide, all I would say is make your choices wisely because you may not get infected badly, but you could infect someone else, even one of your family, nobody is immune double jabbed or not. Thats my penny worth I will concentrate on Model railways now.
  14. If you buy a legomanbiffo chip from DC Kits you have a choice, however they are supplying the chips to Rails, but I dont know what type of speaker Rails are using. I have ordered my sound chip from Legomanbiffo with twin iphone speakers as I have used them before and they are very good. However I will be looking to see if there are other speaker options that will fit, I am hoping there will be room to insert a speaker with a decent bass note. I will see what Richard at Road and Rails comes up with.
  15. The chap said ‘It’s something that will surprise you ‘ intriguing? But it is great to know that all these pioneering locos are being built as models. Thankfully, we rarely hear, not my era, not my region , nothing for me etc. I believe many people now take the attitude, if it’s good I will find a place for it on my layout.
  16. This was an excellent show, and it was great to attend an exhibition again. I wore a mask and so did many others. The traders and exhibitors were obviously pleased to be back and were very friendly. The only negative was the catering, very poor choice and very expensive, £6 for a cheese sandwich is disgusting.
  17. Saw them at GETS today, absolutely stunning. 18100 is a must to buy, I said I really enjoy these experimental ground breaking locos, so the chap I was talking to said, you will enjoy our next announcement then (not 18100)!
  18. I just had a notification from my bank that the transaction was pending.
  19. Well I couldn’t wait to order a sound chip, unfortunately Rails had run out of sound upgrades, so it was off to legomanbiffo, order placed!
  20. My account was debited yesterday, I am really looking forward to receiving this loco. Will wait a little while before fitting sound (probably a few minutes after receiving the loco) so that I can look at what will be available.

    Class 59 in 00

Well that argument would hold water if other smaller suppliers (retailers) took as long. But some of the retailers appear to be able to get their locos out much quicker than the time it takes Dapol. I can see another manufacturer running with this and would not be in the least bit surprised if there was an announcement from another source.
  22. Being a long time fan of the Oxfordshire ironstone fields I am really pleased that ‘Alex’ is to be one of the liveries. Ordered a sound version to work alongside ‘The Bursar’, ‘Sir Thomas’, ‘Grace’ etc. I personally couldn’t care less about the drive as long as it pulls well, which appears to be what’s being reported.
  23. I have a Hornby Cl 50 an older model but it is generally a good runner. Unfortunately the biggest bugbear are the dreaded raction tyres. I wuld like to replace them with standard all meatl wheels. I would like to know if anyone has done it successfull and were there any problems doing so? On the face of it, it looks like a fairly easy exchange but not having done this on a diesel loco I would like to get it right. And, (sorry to go on) what wheels would anyone recommend?
  24. Great Shame, but que ser sera. There wil be other exhibitions that will go ahead this year.
