  1. John, a most thought provoking day today. Thank you for letting me see the scheme..... and being brave enough to let me join in. With imagination dressing the set for me, it was certainly evocative seeing trains of such length creeping in and out and all the parallel moves! Subsequently, I thought I better do a little research to understand things a bit better...... I'm also starting to think about the photo angles ( I might be out of he trade for now, but I'm not certain the trade can get out of me). I'm certainly intrigued as to what the buildings will add to the mix. Steve
  2. Brass should be lime green: this way when all the handrail knobs fall off the desk they can be found again.

So long as you don't have lime green carpet, though I don't suppose that's a problem for many.

What's wrong with lime green carpet...? ;-)

The landlord has.... tastefully..... gone with a beige scheme. Perhaps reverse chameleon brasswork so it singularly fails to blend in, whatever the background?

  3. theoretically no reason why not, as long as some sort of x and y axis datum reference measurements are included in the original so that the scan can be digitally scaled correctly in both axes. Corrections could be drawn in CAD, exported as pdf and composited onto the original in photoshop/illustrator etc.
  4. Dave, with the close proximity of all these droppers, would it be worth having a sub layer that was in essence a local bus-bar assembly rebated into the trackbed substrate before a simplified dropper arrangement goes from these through the trackbed and thence to the board bus-bars? Steve
  5. Do you know if the drops were rail head profiled girder rail or waybeams with chairs? Central division drops such as those on the Stainmore line were way beam based (NER 4 bolt common chairs) and it would appear locos were allowed onto them. Certainly Lartington was 15" square timber waybeams and had a sign stating "engines are allowed on these depots", as were Broomielaw and Bowes.
  6. Looking rather tasty. I too have a variety of NER ploughs to do eventually. It'll be intriguing to see how these come up under paint - at the moment the step holes up to the door look small when compared to their larger six-wheel brethren but it'll be interesting ot see how the balance shifts when they're painted and weathered. Intriguing to see how simple a process you've made this.
  7. nice work there, a nicely balanced weathering job. I'm intrigued though......... was any progress ever made on re-scaling the chimney down to 4mm? There are limited supplies of the comet version apparently so these are only leaving with their full kits so are unavailable as an individual part at the moment.
  8. /me is wacthing weathering videos on yuotube, stand by for a weathering outbreak that will make Barbara Cartland look subtle and understated :D

  9. training day with a surreptitious test run. More sundays like that please. Happy runnings all.

  10. Fair play to you if you've beaten the 5-way (I'm assuming we are talking about the same Green Street).
  11. spray tests done. Oh this automotive stuff is the way to play... if you can get the thinning right. May need a compressor with a reservoir tank though.

  12. Definitely interested in these. Looking at the period picture, I'd say the majority of the depth required is on the sides is in the strapping, The louvres are accentuated in that view by both the angle of the shot and the ambient lighting making the relief appear deeper than it probably was.
  13. Can i put my name down for a j25 please? Steve
  14. map prints brought ot new flat, rolled out in empty living room. My goodness, even in revised "diet" format this minimalist scheme is still...... long. Is annexing next door legal?

it was a part used can btw. Laid on its side on a sacrificial tea-towel in case of disaster. A very small drill was used to pierce the side at the highest point, having allowed time for the paint to settle. As the tip pierces, you'll feel the air on your hand move. Stop at that point and let it depressurise a bit. OPening the kitchen window was a good move at this point. Next open the hole up and then pour carefully, Remember a suitable funnel for next time though. Tis a pity Halfords pri...

workbench is set up... in the workroom, but there is the emergency portable telly'n'throne friendly tray so in the spirit of another question elsewhere on here.............. i could try to do a wagon sat on the throne.

  18. bodging in the wagonarium - now this is how a day off should be

  19. happy bodging and tinkering day one and all from the shires.

  20. Resucitating a wagon from my youthfull clumsyness 25 years ago -leads to me to believe Ishould be a bit more organised in the here and now - where have all the jigs gone? #moretimespenthuntingforthingsthandoingstuff

  21. now that was a producive afternoon - may there be more like it.

On the plus side I don't need to consult the dictionary should i ever forget the meaning of the word "optimist"
  23. it is entirely possible that i may very well need a new job sooner rather than later. a small lottery win to tide me over for a few months while I find something more suitable would be helpful too.

Ditto Steve, my get up and go, has got up and gone! I need something that hasn't got a 3 hour, 100 mile round trip commute!

  24. Permission to stop faffing about once this house is sold and a new place to live found and a new job too? Audience procrastination aside: admirable progress.
