  1. This morning I found Heljan had posted a video of the first EP (Engineering Prototype) of the garratt on Facebook being tested. They stated it is on its way to the UK from China for further scrutiny. Looks very good/promising. I suppose it will be posted here in due course. If you have Facebook account, check out Heljan. Link below. https://fb.watch/q6T4s5KFf1/ Mark in OZ
  2. I remember receiving a generic email explaining the closure and if you have any pre-orders, you will need to order them elsewhere. So not for specific items or customers. I had 3 items on preorder. 2 pre-ordered elsewhere. Mark in Oz
  3. I read this morning (Australian Time -12 hours ago) the closing of Hattons. I returned to Railway Modelling 23 years ago after finding my old Triang/Hornby models and discovering the much updated UK models. I have bought many items from Hattons, being my main supplier and buying stock for others in my Model Railway club (Bendigo). In 2011 I visited the shop, just as they were preparing to relocate. Thank you to all at Hattons for their innovation and service over the years and I wish all at Hattons the very best for the future. I have 3 items on order which will now have to be reordered elsewhere. Mark in Oz
  4. I should have checked Steve Banks site. I stand mistaken on the Observation Coach and last twin set fairing. apologies.
  5. The fairings were only between the pairs of coach sets (Twin Sets), not on the outer edges including the Observation coach. The Silver Jubilee was the same, but had two sets of three articulated coaches. Mark
  6. Agree with Doug, nice to see the Gresley 61' Teaks back. Was hoping for a Composite of any diagram to add to the fleet. Will have to settle for the two rakes I have (7 & 8 coaches including a Restaurant Triplet Set). Mark
  7. Excellent work, Scott. Mine arrived early last week. Have test fitted it and ran it in front of an 0-6-0 Tank engine. Will build it shortly. Mark
  8. As already mentioned, In national collection. Heljan make better Diesels than steam, so far. So I say NER/LNER/BR ES1. Put me down for one. Mark in Oz
  9. Ian spoke at a British Railway Modellers of Australia Convention here in Melbourne Australia a number of years ago and I ended up building a small O gauge exhibition layout with 2 points. 8' (2.4m) x 1'6" (450mm). Fits in the back of my car (Estate in UK Station Wagon in OZ). This inspired a number of others to get into O gauge. So his tenticles/inspiration has invaded the antipides. I should add I am planning to extend and have a third point. Mark
  10. Yes, Bachmann USA do one. I have both. It is slightly larger that the OO Rapido version. I got Mike Trice's resin parts to convert. I am giving it to a young lad who enjoyed my layout, so will be building a layout with him. Getting him into the hobby. Mark in Oz
  11. Says 'Summer 2022' on their website. I remember receiving an email saying June+. So would think not to far away. Mark
  12. hi, you could check New Modellers Shop, they have X6201. They have them in stock at 2.99GBP I had a Hornby 4mt 4-6-0 with split gear. They were out of stock, but I checked others and found a couple that looked similar.  One axle was a little wider, so grinded a bit down on either side and it fitted.  Postage is reasonable too. Way better than Petersspares. Hope this helps. Mark

    1. St Enodoc

      St Enodoc

Thanks - order placed (assuming it's in stock...).

  13. Nice to see the LNER Coronation set. I will have to sell my near completed Mailcoach kit/set. Or I could use it for a west Riding set or spare. Nothing else really. The Titfield set and a steam generator fitted BR Flying Scotsman could tempt me. Can not comment on modern offerings.
  14. The W1 arrived here in Australia intact. No damage anywhere. The retailer in UK I bought it from checks before sending and packs it well. Have run it in on a rolling road and is running fine. I have had it pulling seven of Hornby's lighted Pullmans. After reading that the steps are fouled by Station platforms, I checked mine. Yes just runs along the side on both inside and outside platforms. So will let it wear it down or I may lose the steps and glue them back. Or will attempt to file them a bit, very carefully. Very happy with it, nice Christmas Present from the wife. Mark
  15. Mine is on its way from UK to OZ. Here's hoping. Fortunately, after Hattons cancelled my order, I was able to order one from a reliable retailer who check stock before sending them out. Mark
  16. Welcome to the O gauge revolution. I have a 8' (2.4m) x 1'6" layout. It is DC only at this stage, but easily switchable to DCC. I have a friend who's layout is a bit longer and is controlled by NCE and works fine. I also have NCE for OO layout/stock. Planning to extend. Have just bought a Dapol Sentinel. Having just read instructions for ZTC 511, it looks like it would be suitable. Just Googled it. Other side of ditch Mark
  17. Theres an update on the Rails of Sheffield shop website about the 02/1, 2, and 4. Heljan OO Gauge Update - Gresley 'O2' – Rails of Sheffield Mark
  18. Going back to the split gears issue. I have fixed mine. I had a thought after CBrooks122000 on 24th september commented he was suprised none of the gears fitted the 4MT. I thought that two of them were the same, but the axle/pin was too wide. So I used the electric bench grinder to narrow the axle/pin and now it is working. Mark
  19. Fireline is correct. I have R2714 75005 and I had the same issue and checked the gear below the worm. It is cracked. I contacted Hornby, but no reply after several months. I tried Petersspares, but they are out of stock as are New railway modellers website/shop. I ordered a few spare gears from NRM shop to see if they would do the job, but they wont. So just have to wait for some to come through from Hornby. X9993 is the code you will need. around GBP10.31. Hope this helps Mark
  20. Hi Doug, I ordered mine from Rails, non-sound version. No parts loose in box or bent drawbar fortunately. Just the issue with pick ups needed attention, other than the footplate detached itself when going through small point work. It was hanging low and caught the tender, more my fault for not observing what was going on. Reattached with ease. Postage is about 2 weeks, so pretty good.
  21. The last one on Ebay went for 376 pounds. It finished on the 15th of April. No 98 of 175. It was very well painted, just a few light touchups on the footplate was needed and it was missing the front bogie including wheels. I would say it was a bit of a bargain, if they could get the front bogie.
  22. I have had 2 emails this week. R3980 W1 BR 60700 was first and now R3840 W1 Grey Hush Hush. As those above have said. Not happy. But I wonder if they will get more stock than they have been told and we will find them listed on the website when they eventually arrive. This has happened to others. I sold a SEF Kit so I would not have to build one. Mark
  23. What running model trains looks like in Down Under/Australia & NZ.
