  1. We put a cavapoo pup into the middle of 5 indoor cats.

    They get on great.

One of the cats & the dog are the best of friends. The rest of the cats don't bother with dog.

Best of luck with your endeavours!

My current thinking is in the direction of Roco and the  black Z21 (not the white z21!).

Be careful, you really need the Z21(coloured Black) for its features and your layout's future. Purchase of a z21 would  IMHO be short sighted.

Unless finance is tight, you could keep the Powercab for a separate testing/setting up track.

    Cheers

    Paul

I was reading through this thread today & I was wondering did you ever get sorted with a system ?

    Tony.

Whether or not there is an option to unsubscribe, it remains a very strange move by Hattons to transfer their entire database to former competitor ROS without the consent of their customers...

Nothing strange about it at all.

The database has a value which Hattons have sold to ROS.

Hattons have ceased trading so they have no further need for it. They simply liquidated an asset.

Fox do sets. Not cheap for one letter and I'd probably make one personally but its an option.

    https://www.fox-transfers.co.uk/lettering-and-numbering-set-lms-10000-and-10001-65704

    Thanks for that.

    I'll take a look.

EDIT  I took a look at the FOX product & it is expensive just for one L.

I made an L from thin plasticard & when i painted it a metallic silver it looks fine.

No one will be putting it under a magnifying glass.

If it was one of the other letters then that would have been a different matter.

I'll keep the FOX product in mind in case I lose another letter.

I imagine this being posted in a Bachmann topic caused the confusion.

I did a search on here & posted in the latest LMS Twins thread I could find.

I did find a Hattons/ Dapol Twins thread but the last post was in 2011.

    I'll search again.

I may be wrong but I thought the Bachmann ones had the letters and numbers moulded on.

    I have the Hattons ones.

  7. I've lost the L from one side of my LMS version.

Anyone know where I might possibly get lettering for these models ?

I know it's probably a shot in the dark but I thought I'd ask anyway ?

    Thanks.

  8. Update on this.

On chatting to Greg at Kernow I followed the suggestions of Greg & Kaput above.

The settings suggested seem spot on.

I fitted the Lenz decoder & am testing it on a rolling road.

The settings suggested seem to work wonderfully well, Thank you.

I won't mention those door handrails which seemed to be glued in & well, awful to work with.

I can see modellers having a lot of trouble with these.

Here's hoping I never have to go in there again.

Not a good design at all.

Anyway a lovely model despite the design of those handrails.

    Well done to Kernow.

    Regards.

    Tony.

    Everyone, meet "Laddie":

    image.png.c09236747ff44a1b6eb1bdb31396e056.png

He's an Abyssinian of uncertain origins. He has the golden sandy colour with ticking of a "usual" but also some stripes that suggest there's a bit of tabby in him.

He's very friendly and talkative but he's a big unit and he lived on the mean streets of Cardiff for a few months. You can see he's the sort of cat who can look after himself.

I can't call him "Laddie" forever, though. He needs a suitable name. "Jones"? "Ponsonby"? "Taffy"? "Denzil"? Maybe something more leonine? Any good suggestions?

Looking at the eyes & claws.

Seems like he's about to make you an offer you can't refuse 😬

Some of us are banned from that exhibition!  Couldn't care as I have a far better offer in West Byfleet.

I'm presently researching the Kriegsmarine and the LSWR ships in The Great War.

How could you get banned from a model railway exhibition ?

  12. I bought one of these months ago.

I did the usual running in on a rolling road & it seemed fine.

I got a stock of decoders from Rails during the week so today I decided to fit one to the A5.

I had a tough job trying to get the body off.

The front was free enough but the rear end just wouldn't slide out.

I was concerned that I was going to break the thing.

I was just about to put it back in the display cabinet when suddenly it decided to surrender.

I fitted the decoder, gave it the cab address & its running away now on the rolling road.

Strangely enough the body went back on without a murmur ?

    Lovely looking loco.

The usual base constituent of the grey paint used for wagons at this time was white lead, a form of lead carbonate. This reacts with hydrogen sulfide, which was a plentiful atmospheric pollutant in that coal burning age, to form lead sulfide, which is black. The effect is thus for grey wagons to become darker over time. (The same goes for the white-painted carriage roofs.) There is plenty of photographic evidence for this.

I can remember back in the day when burning off / scraping old pre 60's paint you were advised to wear a mask because of the lead content of such paints.

It is quite clear from the photographs of the vans on the Rails website that one (2025) is darker than the other (12067). I have a 2025, which is what I suspect wainwright1 has as well.

There would inevitably have been a darkening of the grey paint in service, so, ideally, unless you are modelling the Ashford paint shop, no two of your SE&CR goods stock should be quite the same shade of grey.

Remember its oil based paint we're talking about here.

Over time oil based paint will lighten.

This is known as fading or lightening.

Also remember that these paints would have been hand made according to colour recipes in the various paint shops.

So there would be variations even when vehicles were painted brand new.
