  1. That should be interesting. Are the DCC Concept decoders available as a direct plug in with the stay alive.I though I read on their site that one was planned but I could be mistaken ? EDIT: Had a quick look at the DCC Concepts site & the decoder in question is called DP Series which will have a direct connection for a stay alive. They were aiming for a late June release but I don't think its available yet. Maybe Richard Johnson will be along to clarify ?
  2. Finally managed to place an order for wheels with Ultrascale. I wonder if its possible to put a DCC Concepts stay alive decoder in one of these. I have not seen one of these decoders so I don't know what size the capacitor is ? No doubt if it was possible it would fill the cab totally as its an extremely small loco. Someone above asked about sound.I think the problem there would be where to put the speaker ? Maybe you could connect a shunters truck to the loco & fit the speaker in that ?
  3. They do look nice.Is the only difference between the two models just different numbers ?
  4. Luck man. The wheels looked great on the site. At £6 postage I was still going to buy them but when I was quoted £8 at checkout I said no way.Pity really as I would have loved a set.Thats life I suppose. I have sent them an e mail for comment. Edit: I checked again on the site & its £6 ordinary post & £16 insured I ordered a set for the £6 uninsured postage but now I find I have to wait until my details are registered on the site tomorrow before I can complete the order on line. No wonder some orders take months
  5. Had the pleasure of meeting the man once. A very nice person.Get well soon. Regards.
  6. I would agree, very reasonable price for the wheels but what about the postage £8 to Ireland for 4 small wheels. It said £6 in the information which is bad enough but I was quoted £8 when I went to check out. After all it was £10 postage to Ireland for the whole loco & that was registered signed for. Sorry but someone is having a laugh with that postage rate I think.
  7. I have received my LNER model. Its amazing how small it is. Its a very nice model. Mine is now fitted with a Lenz silver decoder. Track needs to be very lean but the model does run smoothly. It will stall if there is any dirt at all on the track or if your track laying is not good. My track laying is fine & level but I only use my layout about once a week so I can expect some dirt. One thing I am puzzled about though. Perhaps someone here might have an explanation. If the loco stalls I have to lift it off the track for a few seconds & then put it back again before it will move. What I do is just lift the wheels on one side off the track for a few seconds & then lower then down again. The hand of God just pushing it on wont work ? I have never seen this with a loco & I have quite a few, some might say to many I did run the loco on a rolling road under DC for about 15minutes in each direction & again for the same time under DCC once the decoder was fitted. Perhaps someone has some idea about this ?

    Ebay

Sounds like a scam to me. If anyone gets such an e mail just forward it to spoof@ebay.co.uk or spoof@ebay.ie if in Ireland. Do NOT reply to any e mail like this or do NOT click on any links contained in any such e mail. If you are buying on E bay look at the sellers previous record because someone with good feedback is unlikely to be selling stolen goods & above all use common sense.
  9. Low relief Georgian terraces on the style of those on Gresley Beat & the type of stone faced houses used on Dewsbury Midland.
  10. Thats really great work.I admire your skill in both woodwork & track making.
  11. Edit This item arrived on Monday April 4th. It took 5 days which isn't bad from the UK to Ireland. It was well packed & arrived without damage.
  12. I know exactly what you mean by . Mine ordered March 24th,processed March 25th & but only sent out yesterday March 29th due to higher than expected volumes . You ordered June 2010 I ordered March 2011 & both our locos got sent out the same day. I think everybody got their loco when the supplies turned up no matter when you ordered. To be honest I think pre ordering means diddly. They just use it as a monitoring tool to work out possible demand & to scare the buyer into thinking "If I don't order now I may not get one". Edit This item arrived on Monday April 4th. It took 5 days which isn't bad from the UK to Ireland. It was well packed & arrived without damage.
  13. I think sometime you are lucky & sometimes not so lucky.I ordered from Rails a small item which was said to be in stock. No product arrived. It took so long to arrive that I had given up on it & gone elsewhere. Now my money wasn't taken so the product was obviously not in stock but I received no e-mail or message to tell me they didn't have it. On other occasions they have been excellent so maybe it depends who you get to fill your order.
  14. I would like one of these but I have to ask where do Bachmann get their prototype information ? If you're going to make something at least try & get the number right
  15. Smashing gent Bob Symes. I had the pleasure of meeting him at a steam festival in Budapest a few years ago. Great man to talk to & such a knowledgeable person.Long may he continue.
  16. Very nice work indeed. I think everybody would be interested in knowing how you did it,especially for those who can't get to see it in the flesh. Tony. South West Ireland.
  17. I run in DCC & I have an insulated double slip.I have no problem with it.
  18. Well done Captain that's an excellent scene. Some lovely model work there. Can I ask about the level crossing ? Is it scratch built or a kit ? Regards. Tony.
  19. Hi John. Thats very neat. :good_mini:Are the couplings effective when pulling a train over the magnets ? Do you have a link to where you got the magnets ? Regards. Tony.
  20. I call them the moving curtain brigade. They're all frustrated planning officers.
  21. Georgian terrace houses both low relief & full size. I think a modular type back scene with old warehouses & tenement backs from the 1930's to 1960's would be excellent. I could see these selling like hot cakes as each modeler could create his own individual back scene & because no two would be the same would be in great demand.
  22. Well done. In fairness that's really excellent.
  23. The terminus will appear eventually but as I said I spend only a few hours a week, mostly on Sundays working on the layout and as you know even when you have lots of time things still take time to complete.. At the moment I am making up little point control panels for around the layout. A fair bit of work involved, most of which you don't see so you think nothings happening but I'll get there someday. My partner who's interested in art likes to paint the backscenes & I really enjoy doing the scenic work. The one problem I find is that where I live there is no one to turn to for inspiration. Most of my ideas come from any visits I have had to the UK & reading on forums like this. My partner is great support to me & the fact that she is interested in what I do is a great help. Once I get my little point control panels up & running I will start a thread here on the forum. I was sorry to hear of your hand injury, the next time pick on something cooler
  24. Hi Gordon. Yes thats me all right. Looking at your skill levels leaves my efforts light years behind but I have fun & thats what its all about. I am still plugging away with no pressure to ever have it finished. I have usually only a few hours a weeks to work on mine & like yourself I work alone but not by choice. Where I live Model Railways would not be top of most peoples lists Even so often my partner & I travel to various places to see railways of any kind. In April we spent a very pleasant week in the UK. My partner was doing an art course in Luton so I traveled to the surrounding counties & towns looking for anything I could find. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed myself & met some great people. We will be back there again later on in the year. You can see some photos of my efforts here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/tony_daly_ireland/ You were a lucky man to get those Alan Downes buildings. The man is a genius. I also spotted your NCE system. Same as myself. I moved to the wireless version recently. The freedom it gives you is really great. Tony.
  25. That looks really super. You are doing a great job on the woodwork & track. Watch that radiator tucked into the corner. Don't have it to high or it may warp things. Keep the photos coming as this is going to be a smashing layout.
