  1. I presume that the ability to repaint and detail a brand new etc item without opening the box is a bit like my Dad's ability to put big-ish ship models in little-ish bottles. Ed
  2. B..... H...! Good luck! Can I raise two points? 1. Is the up bay platform still in place? 2. At the North end, I THINK (although I may be wrong) that the line to St.Albans curved off before Wrestler's Bridge and then the six-line arrangement continued to Welwyn Garden City wher the Luton and Hertford lines peeled off. We moved to WGC in 1960 and the Luton line was still fully open-we travelled on it in loco-hauled stock which ISTR was quad-art. The WGC end of the Hertford line was still open for freight and quite busy. It was worked by the 08 which lived in WGC goods yard. Please keep us posted on this one. Ed
  3. It does look nice Larry. Knowing your preference for lined black I take it you'll be repainting it!! Ed
  4. Someone on here said that the driving wheels look small. I tend to agree, what do others think? Ed
  5. At least the postage is free if you buy the pair! Ed
  6. Hmmmm. So, it's a guided-hybrid-trolley-bendy-bus that straddles a standard? gauge tram/rail line. I was impressed by the way the trolley poles picked up the OH automatically. Why can't our transport chiefs look around mainland Europe and learn something from the way Johnny Foreigner does things. Thanks for posting, most interesting to see integrated public transport. They just seem to get it so, er, right. Ed
  7. I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but looking on the Ace Trains web site a new RTR Schools is £495 including VAT. Ed
  8. I had cause to be at the MG Owners Club HQ at Swavesey a couple of weeks ago, and had a look at the "station" next to the level crossing. I had my blind friend with me and he was fascinated by it, and was able to poke about with no fear of getting run over. It is interesting to see the devices to guide the buses back on to the track and to prevent other vehicles from doing so. How long before the local yoofs start blocking the thing with stolen cars etc? I can just about see justification for a dedicated bus road, but the only advantage I can find claimed for the guideway is that it can be narrower than a plain road for two buses to pass. Are they really going to build another of the things between Dunstable and Luton? Ed
  9. Well, I think they are rather jolly. I'd certainly beat the 99p bid for an authentic model such as those! Ed
  10. Have a look at "planes you never seen before" on Youtube, there are some splendid aviation examples of the genre. Ed
  11. Because they are better sausages! Ed
  12. That's not funny at all! I'm unsure as to whether the car was moving at the time. Ed

    Heljan Class 15

Does anyone remember what we called these things "back in the day"? The TOPS codes hadn't been invented so we used terms such as Brush Twos, Baby Deltics, Sulzers etc, but I cannot recall saying BTH type 1's or whatever. Any thoughts? Ed
  14. I wonder if it would be possible to combine the Faller(?)road system with a model of the Straddle Carrier, as seen on the BBC series "World's Toughest Driving Test" showwn a week or two ago? Ed

    Heljan Class 15

All right, I give up! How do you get the ...... thing out of the box? I've got the clear plastic "bubble" out, but can't see how to get the carriage heating unit (is that a sort of kettle?) out of that. All suggestions welcome. KS had a fair few in stock just now, but no plain green ones. Ed

    Heljan Class 15

Was there a "normal" direction of travel for these (ie long or short nose leading), or did they have controls facing both ways? Ed
  17. That would have been more realistic if you had used large radius points, especially for the crossover. Ed
  18. They did something like this in Colditz and built a glider behind it! Whoever gets this garage after you had better like Smart cars! Ed
  19. I have just read in the new Railway Magazine that 70001 was named "Powerhaul" with cast plates fitted to the solebars. Guess what? They took the loco out of gauge and had to be removed! Ed
  20. you could certainly use Warships, 08's and "22"'s in Cornwall (thinking St Blazey here), although Bulleid coaches would be a little harder to justify! Ed
  21. Having to doublehead class 22's to get them to work should get you firmly into the "how realistic etc" challenge. My Dad and I once saw THREE of them on a train at Newquay, and on asking the crew why we were told in no un-certain terms "to make sure the bleddy things get as far as Par!". Ed
  22. At Royston show a couple of weeks ago there was an HO model of a Glasgow terminus. It was a two level affair with a double platform passenger station up top" and a shunting yard below. Loco's were an 08 on the bottom, a couple of 26's on passenger and an old Playcraft 22/29 thing which looked OK and ran well-the guy took the body off and showed me the American chassis underneath! I thought the whole thig looked very good, and the guy pointed out you can get 4 coaches and a loco in pretty much the same length as 3+1 in OO. Ed
