  1. Time to update this with all the release information from Peterborough until a few days ago! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, we've had some subtle clues as to what our 2018-2019 range will be following on from our hugely successful 2017. It's time to reveal exactly what we're up to! As previously mentioned, we are releasing two ranges in 2018 and expanding two others. Over 2018, we will be expanding our range of Ffestiniog Railway Modern Coaches, new Sittingbourne and Kemsley Light Railway Coaches plus brand new ranges covering the Welsh Highland Railway (Design work complete) and Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes Railroad (prototyping in progress). We aim to get the new FR, SR&RL and SKLR kits all out by Peterborough (Supplier depending) with WHR following at Exeter. However, this is old news so onto the new announcements! Bowaters Models 2019 Ranges:- South African Railways and Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways Heritage Stock Bowaters Models will be releasing not one, but two ranges in 2019. The South African Railways Range will cover rolling stock found on the Avontuur Line in Port Elizabeth and will be perfect for owners of NG15s, NGG16s and Class 91s in 16mm scale. The range consists of 10 coaches, 4 wagons and 3 brake vans which should allow a range of different trains to be run. The two images show the sorts of train you should be able to achieve with our kits. Should the initial range do well, expansion is planned in the future. Image from Wikipedia. To view details of the range, view the newly updated website area specially for it!:- http://www.bowatersmodels.co.uk/south-african-railways/ The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway Heritage stock range is our second range for 2019 and offers kits to go with our existing coaches allowing the typical mix of old and new coaches used in daily operation on the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways. Although we will be effectively redoing some kits that already exist or are only available as RTR, we can promise you these coaches will match our range of modern FR & WHR Coaches in both scale & key dimensions sharing common design style with those ranges at an affordable price. All coaches are modeled in as operating today condition. Both images kindly supplied by Max Brayne. To view details of the range, view the newly updated website area specially for it!:- http://www.bowatersmodels.co.uk/ffestiniog-and-welsh-highland-railways-heritage-range/ These kits as with all our products will be scale models being designed to operate on 32mm track. 45mm gauge compatibility will be established once prototyping has been undertaken as will the minimum radius of operation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- With just over a week to go until Peterborough (Stand G2 next to Roundhouse in case you're wondering!), time to reveal the prototypes of our new Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad Freight Stock. We have a range of 4 Boxcars, 3 Flat cars and 3 Cabooses which should allow a range of different trains to be run. Passenger stock will follow at a later date. Each kit as is standard with our range comes with bogies in the gauge of your choice (32mm or 45mm) and Accucraft Chopper Couplings. The kits are of course available without those items. All kits include postage to Mainland UK only with postage elsewhere at cost. The prices are as follows:- Flat Cars:- £70 Box Cars:- £80 Cabooses:- £90 You will be able to order these at the show or from our website a couple of days before the show. 2. Today was a day of stock work. 3 Ballast Hoppers and 4 3 Plank Wagons entered the paint shop and exited in LT livery. I know the Hoppers are probably very very wrong (LNER Trouts rather than LT pattern) but I wanted something I can run easily and these were the only ones available at the time. Trust me if Heljan Dogfishs were available, I'd have brought them instead. The 3 planks are the new tooling Hornby Wagons which run surprisingly well considering they're very light. Everything before repainting The 7 repainted wagons along with the existing two. Going to need another pack of decals if I get anymore wagons. The scene I wanted to recreate out of 'Red Panniers'. Two Ashford brake vans, 3 hoppers and L94 on a train. Looking good on the layout. Mixed train. You can fit a train of two hoppers and 2 3 plank wagons in the headshunt for shunting. Or 3 Hoppers or 4 3 Plank wagons. Plenty of room. Spare wagons in the sidings. Very happy to now have a small collection of LT wagons to run alongside the BR ones. Stock wise, the layout is, for now, more than operational/at a point, I'm happy with. In time, a pair of Dreadnaughts will follow as well as a Pannier and a Battery Loco. I mean, I have 3 Panniers already but I won't say no to another one! Although which engine to number it as would certainly make me think. Layout wise, a simple back scene along with a ballast pile (got to justify having ballast hoppers being worked onto the layout other than relaying the track) should see the layout complete for now.
  3. After taking some time away from smaller scales due to a lack of interest, I was looking at one of my old layouts and started thinking. A while ago, I did have a small London Transport Layout which used to be used as a small shunting layout. However, it was binned as operating it became a pain and the fact it was only 3ft by 1ft meant it didn't have room to run anything longer than a loco and a 3 plank wagon. The existing layout used to be a Preservation layout which meant it had the room to run longer trains and could mean a reasonably sized train could be run and fit inside the headshunts. As the layout didn't get used, time to bring it back into use! Only catch, budget is a little as possible. Fortunately I have a load of stock from the old LT layout as well as some brought afterwards to build up the fleet which is the expensive bit sorted for now. Only expenses to date have been a pair of Hopper wagons (wrong diagram but looks close enough to me), a pack of rail (can't have a London Transport layout without 3rd and 4th rail) and a load of superglue. After a couple of days work, I'm happy with how its turning out. In time, another hopper, some more wagons along with a E and F class will be on the agenda but that's for when the budget exists (if it ever exists). The layout is basically a terminus with small engine shed (sub-shed of Lillie Bridge is my excuse) and a small engineering depot next door. The whole layout showing the fiddle yard and main layout. Scenic section. Plently of room for shunting and loads of room for Pannier Tanks (I have 3 and a Hunslet Tank Engine (L30)) Station area. Room for a 2 car EMU (Class 416s used to run on LT tracks at one point so that's my excuse!) or a two car Dreadnought coaches (I have the Met Electric Loco ready for them). Headshunt to access the works yard. Can fit a Pannier tank and 4 3 Plank wagons in it. Even the shorter headshunt to access the coal yard, you can still fit a brake van and Pannier tank in that shorter length. Engineering depot shown on the left (3 tracks next door to each other) and the small engine shed on the right next to the running lines. Rolling stock wise, the list is fairly extensive. Lots of my existing non LT stock is in BR livery and seeing as there is a BR connection somewhere on this line (how else are the 2EPBs going to come along) so BR Locos might make a visit. London Transport Wise:- Pannier Tanks x3 (L89, L94 and L97) Hunslet Side Tank x1 (L30) Metropolitan Railway Electric x1 (11) 8 3 Plank London transport Wagons (4 Painted, 4 awaiting Painting) 2 LT Hoppers (Representative models which need repainting) 2 LT Ashford built Brake Vans (B581 and B583) 1 LT Hurst built Brake Van (B558) In time, there will hopefully be another hopper and some more 3 planks to follow. Plus a E class (can't have a LT steam layout without a E class), F class and a pair of the previously mentioned Dreadnoughts to represent a time before BR started running trains into the station. Overall, a very rewarding little project and one that I can genuinely say I'm happy with. Jon
  4. Seeing as I've just discovered this forum, time to post my garden railway. Its not long at the moment but its growing slowly! The original railway was laid on wooden planks but after my little company exploded in popularity recently, I needed a proper test track! Hence this appeared:- After a long discussion with the landlords, it's finally happened! A permanent line has appeared in my garden. Only about 22ft long at the moment but will grow to 30ft on Saturday with further growth potentially following in the new year if it beds in enough and the parents are still happy. First job, go and buy a load of Ballast. Phase 1 used 6 bags and I have 4 more in stock for phase 2/3 if it ever happens. Ballast down and in place. Taken just before it was packed (aka stood on) Track all laid and tamped. Ready for running (and yes, the trains do fit under the slab) The kinds of shots that are now possible. Leader shown at the end of the line. That's SO much better compared to the rotten planks the line was on before. The next day........... The final 3 yards are down! Total running line is about 10-11 yards (I think, I haven't measured it!) but I'm happy. Plus I've got 3 bags of gravel and 5 yards of track spare ready to start across the lawn (when the parents let me...) The spare track. Mostly in one piece. Unsurprisingly, the track on some of the newer boards didn't want to come off! First trains (battery powered to make life easier) should be tomorrow. Stock hasn't been decided yet but may end up being the welshpool set (again for ease). And the day after........... Only one image from today. First test runs were done with my IPE Jessica and two FR coaches. Surprisingly level for something I've built! Not bad really. Need to get some heavier locos running over it to start fully bedding it in but I'm happy. That's for another day unless I get back early enough from work either today or tomorrow.... Short test train under power. And the following Sunday! Having got back from work eariler than planned, time to run a train. A rudy heavy one at that! Stock was my Welshpool set which although not very heavy, don't roll as nicely as they should (I really should Oil them at some point.......) plus Superior. A nice heavy loco to test it all properly (well, it is the biggest I own!). Raising Steam. I think I've found the perfect steam up area (for now). After about 20 minutes light engine to let the ballast settle, The test train awaits! Quick couple up and then..... Off we go! Only a short run down the track but with the regulator cracked open and 20psi on the gauge, takes a surprisingly long time to get to the other end! Leaves a surprisingly nice steam trail as well! Run complete after about 45 minutes. Time to let the steam vent out before packing away! Been a long time since I ran a successful train in my garden with only 1 derailment after a very rapid stop (that brick does a good job as a buffer stop!). Safe to say I'm very happy! Bring on the next stage (most likely in December or eariler depending on funds......) Cheers, Jon
  5. About Bowaters Models Bowaters Models is a small UK Model Railway company owned and run by Jon Reeves specializing in 4mm Scale 3D Printed Products and 16mm Scale Garden Railway Kits. Bowaters Models released its first kit in March 2015 initially focusing on the rolling stock of the Bowaters Paper Railway. The Current Active and Planned Range includes models from the Bowaters Paper Railway, Sittingbourne & Kemsley Light Railway, Chattenden & Upnor Railway, Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways and the Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes Railroad. Website:- www.bowatersmodels.co.uk e-mail:- info@bowatersmodels.co.uk Examples of our current/upcoming Range:- BMS Series - Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad As things progress, things start to grow. And Bowaters Models is no different! We're starting to look beyond our current range and starting to look at other Prototypes. As such, we're starting work on the next range to follow on from our Ffestiniog, Chattenden & Upnor and Sittingbourne Ranges. As such, we're pleased to announce our 2018/2019 range which will see us working on a Maine Two Footers Range in 16mm scale! Focusing on the Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes, we've selected a range of 2 Coaches, 7 different Freight Cars and 3 Cabooses which will form the initial range allowing a wide mix of Sandy River trains to be run. The Range at present consists of the following items:- BMS-001 SR&RL Combine No.15 BMS-002 SR&RL Coach No.19/20 BMS-101 SR&RL 24ft Box Car No.55-66 BMS-102 SR&RL 28ft Box Car No.100-108 BMS-103 SR&RL 28ft Box Car No.121-125 BMS-104 SR&RL 24ft Dairy Car No.59 BMS-201 SR&RL 24ft Flat Car/Pulpwood Car/Coal Car No.200-210 BMS-202 SR&RL 28ft Flat Car/Pulpwood Car/Coal Car No.350-362 BMS-203 SR&RL 33ft Flat Car/Pulpwood Car/Coal Car No.363-387 ~ Eustis Railroad BMS-301 SR&RL Caboose No.551 BMS-302 SR&RL Caboose No.551 BMS-303 SR&RL Caboose No.553 At the moment, this range is at the design stage and is progressing well. We have extended plans for this range to cover a wide range of Sandy River Prototypes so if there are any particular Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes items of Rolling stock you would like to see, let us know! We envisage these items of rolling stock being suitable for both 32mm and 45mm gauge track. They will also in accordance with new policy, be supplied complete with bogies and couplings. These items will be to 16mm scale (1:19) and will fit in perfectly with the Roundhouse Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Baldwin. If you are interested in any part of this range, please contact us via e-mail at info@bowatersmodels.co.uk to register your interest. BME-001/BME-002 Battery Electric Locomotives Bowaters Models is proud to reveal our latest/upcoming releases. A pair of Battery Electric Battery Electrics! Something we’re not aware has been done in 16mm before by a kit designer. We have two options, one Freelance (released) and one prototypical (on the way and hopefully due by the end of October). The Prototypical BEV is based on the Bowaters Railway ‘The Tank’ while the Freelance one is a modification of this design. The Freelance engine runs on an IPE Chassis while the prototypical engine will run on a TBC chassis. The Freelance engine is 32mm only and the Prototypical is both 32mm/45mm compatible. Both our kits will pull 2-4 of our Pulp Wagons or 1-2 of our staff coaches depending on weight which is exactly what the prototype was able to pull (our end goal). Minimum radius is 2ft 6inches for the Freelance engine and TBC for the prototypical. These kits are perfect for both general Garden Railway use and to run with the SKLR/Bowaters Range we sell ourselves. The Range consists of the following items:- BME-001 Bowaters Paper Railway ‘The Tank’ BME-002 Freelance Battery Electric The range is designed to be easy to assemble while still producing a scale model for operation with the various 16mm Live Steam and Battery Electric SKLR items of Motive Power and rolling stock. As per our new policy, these items are available complete with chassis and couplings in the gauge of your choice and couplings. Newly announced at Sittingbourne, we are also working on 3 other locomotive kits. BME-003 is a Bagnall 0-6-2T based on the prototypes that operated on the Bowaters Paper Railway. We will be modeling 'Superb' although the kit will be designed to enable Alpha and Triumph to be modeled as well. We are aiming to have suitable etched nameplates available for the 3 engines as part of the kit. The engine will be able to run on 32mm & 45mm track and is to 16mm scale. This kit is at the Research stage with design work due to start shortly. BME-004 is a Vulcan 0-4-4RT Forney based on the prototype that operated on the Monson Railroad. We will be modeling Number 3 which is preserved today at the Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes Railroad. The engine will be able to run on 32mm track (we are working on 45mm as well) and is to 16mm scale. This engine is at the design stage with the mechanical work currently underway. BME-005 is a Baldwin 2-4-4T Forney based on the prototype that operated on the Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes Railroad. We will be modeling number 9 which sadly didn't survive the scraping of the railroad. The engine will be able to run on 32mm & 45mm track and is to 16mm scale. This kit is at the Research stage with design work due to start once BME-003 and BME-004 have been completed/released. BMU Series - Chattenden & Upnor Railway Coaches Bowaters Models is proud to reveal our latest release. A pair of Chattenden and Upnor Railway Coaches which are modeled in their current operating condition on the Sittingbourne and Kemsley Light Railway. With little work, these kits can be made to look as they did when operating on the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway in the late 1960s to mid-1970s. The Range consists of the following items:- BMU-000 ~ A Multipack of 3 coaches (2 BMU-001s and 1 BMU-002) BMU-001 ~ Chattenden and Upnor Railway Coach 196/200 BMU-002 ~ Chattenden and Upnor Railway Coach 199 The range is designed to be easy to assemble while still producing a scale model for operation with the various 16mm Live Steam and Battery Electric SKLR/Welshpool items of Motive Power. The Coaches are designed to run on both 32mm and 45mm track with a minimum radius of 3ft. As per our current policy, these items are available complete with bogies in the gauge of your choice and couplings. BMF Series - Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways Bowaters Models are proud to announce our Ffestiniog Railway Corridor Stock Range of kits for 16mm scale Garden Railways. The range will consist of 5 coaches all covering 5 members of the Ffestiniog Railway Operational Fleet circa 2016. The Range includes a range of coaches allowing anything from a 2 to 7 coach train to be created using the range as its basis. The 5 kits include all 3 'Carnforth' Coaches as well as 4 different Barns. The entire range is representative of the Coaches as they were operating during 2016 on the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways. BMF-005 is externally representative of Ffestiniog Railway Coach No.106/107 however it uses the same interior as BMF-002. This will change as of October 2017. The range is designed to be easy to assemble while still producing a scale model for operation with the various 16mm Live Steam and Battery Electric Ffestiniog Railway items of Motive Power. The Coaches are designed to run on both 32mm and 45mm track with a minimum radius of 5ft although the bogies can be moved outwards towards the ends of the coaches to decrease the minimum radius significantly. As with all our current products, the kits come complete with Accucraft Chopper Couplings along with IP Engineering Large Bogies in the gauge of your choice. Both items can be removed from your kit at your request. The Range consists of the following kits:- BMF-000 Ffestiniog Railway Multipack – (1 Observation and any 3 Non Tin Car coaches from the rest of the range) BMF-001 Ffestiniog Railway Observation Coach No.102 BMF-002 Ffestiniog Railway All 3rd Coach No.105 BMF-003 Ffestiniog Railway Composite Coach No.112/113 BMF-004 Ffestiniog Railway Buffet Coach No.114 BMF-005 Ffestiniog Railway Composite Coach No.106/107 BMF-006 Ffestiniog Railway All 3rd Coach No.22 BMF-007 Ffestiniog Railway Composite Coach No.104 BMF-008 Ffestiniog Railway All 3rd Coach No.116 BMF-009 Ffestiniog Railway All 3rd Observation Coach No.123 BMF-010 Ffestiniog Railway All 3rd Coach No.110 Please note, we have another 5 Modern FR Coaches in the works. With Regards to WHR, see below! To view the entire FR coach range, visit our website:- http://www.bowatersmodels.co.uk/fr-modern-coaches/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please see below for our announcements from the Exeter Garden Railway Show!:- Product Annoucement First of our announcements for Exeter. We will be doing 6 in total running up to the show! To go alongside our range of FR Coaches, we will also be producing a range of Welsh Highland Railway Coaches! This will be a range of 7 kits covering the majority of the WHR fleet. As with our FR coaches, these will be scale models (16mm) and will be designed from the outset to operate on both 32mm and 45mm track. Please note, at this time, we will not be producing the Observation coaches. If demand dictates otherwise, we will consider it. We don't have a release date set for this model but it will follow on from our Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Freight stock range therefore in the 2018/2019 timeframe. Research is underway and we expect to start design work once our Bowaters Bagnall is complete. The Range consists of the following kits:- BMH-000 Welsh Highland Railway Multipack (Details to be confirmed) BMH-001 Welsh Highland Railway Coach 2021/2022 BMH-002 Welsh Highland Railway Coach 2040/2041/2042 BMH-003 Welsh Highland Railway Coach 2043/2044/2045 BMH-004 Welsh Highland Railway Coach 2046/2047 BMH-005 Welsh Highland Railway Coach 2090 BMH-006 Welsh Highland Railway Coach 2011 BMH-007 Welsh Highland Railway Coach 2115 ‘Bodysgallen’ For details, please see our website here:- http://www.bowatersmodels.co.uk/whr-modern-coaches/ All images are from Wikipedia. Next Announcement! BMF-011 to BMF-013 Ffestiniog Railway Tin Cars! Yes, that's right. We are covering the now withdrawn Tin Cars as well! These 3 kits will cover 117-121 in the condition they last operated(or in 120's case, is still operating) on the Ffestiniog Railway. All 3 kits are 16mm scale and like the rest of our range can run on both 32mm track and 45mm track. These kits make use of 2 of our 3D printed end sections to produce the unique roofs these coaches had in service. However, as a result, these coaches will be the most expensive in the range at £110 each. They are currently awaiting the next prototyping slot (which will become free after Exeter (subtle hint about what else is on the way!)) after which we aim to have them out by the end of this year/early next year. Please note, the current BMF Multipack will not include these coaches. A variant of these will become available when the coaches are released. Now some will have noticed a gap in the product codes. We shall reveal all at a later date!!!! Image from Wikipedia. Annoucement Number 3 - SKLR Preservation Coaches After our very successful trip to the SKLR end of season gala, we are starting work on a set of SKLR Passenger Coaches. These will be modifications of our existing Bowaters Passenger Coaches into their current day variants as operating on the preserved railway. We will be covering coaches 657, 659 and 660 with representative interiors. These will be 16mm scale and will match the existing coaches we produce. We already have coach 641 as running today in our range hence it not being included in this release. We will update our website after Exeter to reflect the new coaches being produced. These are ready to order now so drop us a line if you are interested! Announcement Number 4 - Bowaters Paper Railway Battery Electric 'The Tank' We're pleased to unveil the second of our two Battery electrics which is now complete. This is the prototype version of our Freelance Battery Electric, The Bowaters Paper Railway 'The Tank'. This 0-4-0BE is designed to operate on either 32mm or 45mm track with 4 wheel drive thanks to a fantastic RTR chassis from PDF Models. This kit will be priced at £70 including couplings and the chassis in the gauge of your choice. For those who want another gauge, let us know and we will see what we can do. We've got one more annoucement on the way and it will be a big one. Stay tuned to see what we're on about! Announcement 5! Additional New FR Modern Corridor Coaches! BMF-006 to BMF-010 Ffestiniog Railway Modern Coaches Yes, time to fill in the gap. We are pleased to reveal another 5 coaches for our FR range including a second Observation coach and the Prototype Tin Car. The 5 kits cover a range of coaches and complete the 'pre superbarn' set of coaches except for Observation Coach No.100 (second) and Service Car No.124. These will follow later having been assigned product codes BMF-014 (Coach 100) and BMF-015 (Coach 124) alongside our Tin Cars. They are both complete design wise and awaiting the next prototyping slot. As with the rest of the range, these will be scale models (16mm scale) and suitable to run on both 32mm and 45mm gauge track. Prices will be between £82.50 (Normal Coaches), £95 (Observation 123) and £110 (Tin Car No.110). As per our standard policy, these kits will come complete with couplings and bogies in the gauge of your choice (32mm or 45mm). Shown are the completed prototype for Coach 116, the almost Completed Prototypes for Coaches 110 & 123 and the semi-complete Prototypes for Coaches 22 and 104. We're aiming to have them all complete and on show at Exeter. Please note, the images were taken mid-construction so the final products do not reflect the images shown. This completes our announcements for Exeter. Come and say hello to see our latest prototypes for yourself. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We have more on the way which we haven't listed here as well as others that are already released. To view the whole range, please visit our website. We will update this thread as releases come up based on our press releases. Kind Regards, Jon, Bowaters Models.
  6. Something I've been working on for a while now is my main OO/009 layout. With the small 009 layout disposed of due to lack of room, this is all I now have to run my small 009 fleet on. Not a lot, but it's enough. A bit of background into the layout before the main post (yes, I've nicked the post from my until now dormant blog). The layout was started Mid 2012 as a pure OO layout to replace my then roundy roundy train set as an attempt for a 'serious' layout using the Hornby Select controller. It's set in Kent in the modern day as a terminus for a preserved railway. Trains were always kept fairly short (2 coaches) until later 2015 then a second much longer platform was installed allowing 3 coaches (and a happier me as a result!). Minimum Radi is 2nd on pointwork and in the station area with the main curve being 3rd from memory. So when did the 009 come into the picture? In early 2013, the pure 009 layout that was booked to go to the Sussex Downs Members Day, 'slightly' blew up its electronics (that's what I get from wiring something up as a teenager in the middle of exams!). So a rapid section of 009 was laid on the new layout so it would 'fit in' as its replacement. For reference, The layout that tried to self-combust successfully made it to the same show 2 years later with no issues. Originally, it was DC before as part of the rewire for a new Gaugemaster controller, was wired into the main DCC power bus. However, most of my DCC fleet has been sold on so.... changes were needed. After sitting on the windowsill for nearly 2 years without any use/work, I finally decided to get the OO/009 layout running again. It, fortunately, didn't need much work for the OO. Only needed track cleaning, dust removing and cobwebs removing then it started to work again! The 009, however, was another matter. As well as the other work, it needed converting from DCC to DC. An easy task you'd think. Nope. The way the layout sits on the windowsill, getting underneath it to remove something from the main wiring is a nightmare. Fortunately, two little tugs pulled the track feeds off the main DCC power bus with ease (I must have done a good job of soldering it on NOT). One quick rewire later, now the 009 runs on DC. Seeing as it's the only 009 section of track I now have, running it on DC is probably for the best/involves the least risk. The overall layout The newly DCed 009 section. Now working better than it did on DCC! The Main Station area. Not bad for effectively a glorified inglenook with coaches! The 4 stars of the current OO Passenger Fleet. Bachmann 4575, Bachmann E4 and Oxford Rail Adams Radial. Other locos do see use from time to time. The two current 009 stars. A pair of until now unrun. Now running nicely. When you need bigger engines, these 2 and the C class tend to get used. The fact they're both sound fitted has nothing to do with it. Honest! What needs doing, the back of the layout needs tidying up as well as sorting out an engine shed for the 009. Then its Backscenes, detailing and sorting out the fencing as well. It's getting there is the phrase I'd use. Jon
  7. Another recent release from Narrow Planet has been the LKM V10C. They were built from about 1957, based on the NS4. LKM were standardising components and modules and the V10C shares items with the standard gauge V10B. The standard locomotives had an air-cooled 6-cylinder diesel engine (6 KVD 14.5 SRL, later 6 VD 14,5 / 12 SRL). The export models for warmer climated had a water-cooled engine (6 KVD 14.5 SRW). Depending on the gauge, the locomotive had an outer (600-762 mm) or inner frame (900-1067 mm). As standard the V10C had only a mechanical brake however a later option was a pneumatic brake, which only worked for the locomotive or as a continuous train brake. With an output of 102 hp, the V10C was designed for both field and industrial railways. In size and design, the locomotive has a certain resemblance to the military diesel the HF130C. The Kit consists of a 3D printed body shell, 3D printed detail and etched brass grill, exhaust and window surrounds. It requires and outside framed Graham Farish 08 chassis to be completed - which can be fitted with simple modifications detailed in the instructions. The kit is packaged in a re-usable box with all components required excluding glazing material, 0.4 and 0.3mm brass rod (required for the handrails). To assembly you will need superglue, a 0.3 and 0.4mm drill, a pair of needle nose pliers (to bend the handrails) and a pair of tweezers (to fit the window frames). The kit price is £50 and is available to order now. For more information, contact orders@narrowplanet.co.uk or visit our website at http://narrowplanet.co.uk/ We're also working on the following engines for release in 2015. NGR N Class/SAR NG4 in 009. Requires a Farish 08 outside framed Chassis to complete. CGR C Type 'Midget' in 009. Requires a Minitrains F&C Chassis to complete. I'm hoping to get more information on them out as they approach release but if you're interested in them, you can register your interest in either model at orders@narrowplanet.co.uk Cheers, Jon
  8. Now that looks absolutely lovely! Can't wait for my LBSCR one to arrive now. Can't wait to see one painted up. Why am I tempted though to order a second one in SR livery after seeing that........ Cheers, Jon
  9. Thanks L49 re chassis, I've designed it around the Bachmann Standard 2 2-6-0 + T chassis minus the tender and leading wheels. Ironically, it has near enough the exact same wheel base as the LT Hunslets. Jon
  10. And a couple of weeks later, here is the result awaiting printing from shapeways Thanks for all the help Jon
  11. Thanks guys. I've registered on district dave and have a copy of that magazine on the way. Cheers Jon
  12. Hi, I'm looking for drawings/pictures of the former District Railway Steam Engines L.30 and L.31 for a possible OO layout I'm thinking about doing. I already have some photographs from a couple of books about LT steam but I can't find any drawings or any detailed shots of the pair. Can anyone help with that? I know they were built by the Hunslet Engine Company (Wks.1674 & 1675/1931) and are 0-6-0Ts. Cheers, Jon
