  1. This is my first powered test of the split chassis build for a Norwegian narrow gauge Beyer Peacock 2-4-0 loco "Brage" in S scale! I'll post up further progress; I'm very pleased with it so far.
  2. Here are a couple of recent 4mm builds, rolling stock again. I do like a bit of rolling stock! These are a macgeordie Bagged Cement Van, (a magnificent kit !), and a Comet marine ply Thompson LNER full-brake with extra detailing. Both very nice vehicles
  3. Hi, I'm building a Comet 4mm Thompson Corridor full brake kit and have opted for a substitute set of 8ft MJT bogies. The instructions mention that these bogies may have been the "dropped frame" type. Does any one know if this was the case with the full brake? Cheers Simon
  4. Hi Chris, thankyou, I'd heard that sound chips use up a lot of power, it's a good idea...I'm definately turning the volume down! Cheers Simon
  5. Thanks Keith, I'm hoping to convert it to P4, I have the Highlevel chassis etch, so as long as I keep my track clean there shouldn't be a problem. Cheers Simon
  6. Hi, thanks for getting back to me. I've got hefty stay-alives in such things as an LNER F4 2-4-2 tank in P4 with pickup on the 4 driving wheels. That works fine and I can judge the strength of the stay-alive by the many long seconds of sound before cut-off when picking the loco up from the track! The GT3 is on an admittedly grubby 00 test track and the sound cuts off as soon as the loco reaches a dirty spot or is picked up. I've just watched some YouTube reviews and apparently the tender picks up through the bearings on all wheels, with wire pickups on two of the drivers. I shall make a better job of cleaning the test track but I do like a bit of stay-alive! Cheers Simon
  7. Bingo! 3 worked, thankyou very much ITG! Now all I have to do is work out how to lower the volume of the whooshing noises. Interestingly it doesn't appear to be fitted with a stay-alive, has anyone tried this? Cheers Simon
  8. I'll try it, thankyou!
  9. Hi, I have just received my rather beautiful brown GT3 with DCC sound. Unfortunately it is completely unresponsive to my NCC powercab system, neither movement nor sound. It doesn't respond to 0003 or 0000 as an address. Other locos are fine. As a comparative novice with DCC could anyone offer any suggestions as to what is happening? I have emailed KRModels about it but I'm impatient to hear the whooshing noises! Cheers Simon
  10. Thankyou for the very helpful info. I've had a look at Plate 75 and love the "probably". So, basically, I'll take a best guess at the position of the red lining from that of the yellow passenger lining. Cheers Simon
  11. Great! Thankyou all. Anyone know whether Midland 1400 2-4-0 tender locos would have been classed as passenger, goods or both by the LMS? In fact, can you class a loco as both passenger or goods? Cheers Simon
  12. Thanks for your replies, I've got the Excellent Essery/Jenkinson books and was looking for a good photo of a tender goods engine where you can see the red lining clearly. Locomotive Liveries...states that the red lining was basically where the yellow lining on red engines would have been, so that's a good start! Cheers Simon
  13. Hi, does anyone have a drawing/photos of how black locomotives were lined out in red by the LMS? Cheers Simon
  14. Hi Jon, thanks for that, they seem exactly the same except that they are window-like openings instead of blank vents. Very helpful and I very much like your builds! Cheers Simon
  15. I'm building a D&S 4mm kit of a Great Eastern 6 wheel clerestory coach. Some of the windows or lights above the centre of each compartment may hinge outwards and there are a number of odd little castings that appear to be some sort of frame for these. Does anyone know anything about the prototype in this respect, or have any photos they could kindly share that show GER clerestory roofs? Cheers Simon
  16. Hi Ian, I hope all is well. I've almost finished the wagon and enjoyed every minute of it. I've mislaid the bolts to join the chassis and body, are they metricor b.a.? And do you still have any of your most recent Great Western kits available? Cheers Simon
  17. Thankyou; it's about 1890/1900, newish with a bit of dirt! Cheers Simon
  18. Here's a Hull and Barnsley horsebox painted following Mike Trice's brilliant techniques.
  19. Thanks very much! Here's another 4mm build, this time in 00. The wagon body is by Gordon Woods and the containers are adaptations from a mould I made from an old Triang model. The decals are Modelmaster, the securing chains adapted from Ambis engineering etches and the inspiration was from Geoff Kent's Wild Swan 4mm Wagons Volume 3!
  20. Another lock-down project; a GER F4, LNER condition, in P4. Detailed Gibson kit with a Marcus Burrow's chassis. Near ready for the paintshop...
  21. Thanks Mr Wright, I'll keep the finger tip advice to mind! I want the model to be 0-16.5 to complement my other O gauge modelling intererests so, unless a Wrightlines kit (no relation by any chance?) comes along, I think I'll scratch-build my Baldwin. A problem would be the domes, my lathe skills are rudimentary at best. Your model looks great, they really are lovely little locomotives! Cheers Simon
  22. Thanks for the replies, I've done a little research on the chassis via Mike (49395) who produced a very nice etch although he's run out of them, and I hadn't thought of Branchlines, I'll ask for their catalogue. I was wondering if the Bachmann chassis could be tinkered with? Cheers Simon
