  1. After the success of our post Christmas open day we are now planning our next open day for Sunday 24th April - 10:00 - 16:00 We are having a bit of a move around and hope to be able to show some new projects on the go More details of this event and others along with the latest things going on at the club. https://www.keighley-mrc.org.uk/
  2. I have been trying to do the same for our club in Keighley for some months now and we have had the same success as you Just checked and the domain is registered to Fasthosts Internet Ltd URL: http://www.fasthosts.co.uk The detail was last updated in Nov 2021 though it isn't clear if that was the record or the domain The hunt goes on Alan
  3. It keeps being mentioned that WKT town is crying out for the third rail and it's emblematic EMU's How about adding to your skills base and having a go at etching and 3D printing to get you a fleet of 503's I did post on here the other year that I had made a start on drawing up an etch for the 503's but work and life has got in the way. Maybe once I retire in the next 2 months that project might get moved on and I can get something on the rails
  4. https://greenwoodmodelrailwayproducts.co.uk/ are the suppliers of those in the photos or as an alternative http://www.midrailcentre.com/turntable-kits-general-information
  5. Yes that was my thought to buy while they were available, as you say some of the earlier kits are already out of production
  6. Just seen David's reply as I was writing mine, so you are in safe hands there I looked at all those options and went for the MOK kit, though put to one side until retirement in 3 years. My reasoning was that whilst the Scorpio was viewed as an improved kit from what it had been a few years ago there was still a need as mentioned to replace a fair number of castings if desired As you have also found out the MMP 9f is buried in Ragstone only to be bought RTR, though the castings are the source for the Scorpio upgrade So my train of thought was that for the saving of £250 between the kits, most of that would be consumed in buying the replacement castings. Plus the physiological angst of having to do that as against buying the premier kit. I know it is up to individual circumstances, but Dave also does some nice wheels to go with the 9f and whilst not cheap they do complement the kit. I have to admit I bought a second set of those wheels while they are in stock, so Telford is going to be expensive this year. I take the stance that I would rather have less, but quality kits than have a cupboard of cheap ones that challenge my abilities Oh for the DJH kits I have read on several forums that the frames are slightly overscale thickness and my preference would not be a whitemetal boiler, though I have to concede I have bought a Finney7 resin boiler for my Duchess build And as you, yes I could have probably dug deep and bought a RTR version. For me building kits is an achievement and also you can get two for the price of a RTR
  7. Or just go to Tower Models and buy a RTR Heljan GUV for £169, job done
  8. The book is by Keith Parkin and is a really good read if you are into BR coaching stock. Prices can be a bit crazy unless you are lucky as I saw a few copies at ScaleFour the other week https://www.abebooks.co.uk/book-search/title/british-railways-mark-1-coaches/author/parkin-keith/ There was me thinking Easi-Build but they only do the BG. If you are brave PRMRP do a GUV for £78.65, but if you are contemplating scratch building it would be a good base
  9. The Parkin book is the bible of MK1 stock Non Gangwayed Utility Van Page 201. It is not the biggest of drawings, but I have been using a similar one from some Jenkinson books to draw up a 1st Class Sleeper in O
  10. Have a word with the team at MIOG they had the 75t diesel version in 7mm on their stand at Kettering. I think there are detail on their FB page of who built the basic kit
  11. Marcway do rail which being fairly local to Sheffield, I go an collect to save postage and can get 1m lengths. I also picked up Peco slide and plain chairs whilst I was there
  12. I like that you have a good balance between track and real estate and not wall to wall track. My layout will be 15ft x 3ft so seeing your layout gives me a view of the possible I can't wait for the new Heljan Class 47's to come out as yours look fabulous
  13. There are a myriad of ways to push the rivets through, which include centre punches and nails with small hammers to limit the blow. The challenge is getting the right shape and most importantly consistency. I have just got one of the GW Models which come with 2mm/4mm/7mm anvils and you can set it up to give you a repeatable depth If you are going to do these quality kits justice then it's worth the outlay
  14. Hi John I have seen you comments on C&L many times in the smaller suppliers section, but hadn't realised you were this heavily into turnout building The Off the Rails check rail chairs get my vote. I need to get another batch as I have used all my stock. Yes they are a bit fragile but with care they do a nice job. I use Marcway rail so maybe the profile is slightly kinder on the chairs. I have broken a few but thankfully the middle ones which generally there are spares left over. Taking Martin's advice rather than a Y turnout this is a Negative curved one which is supposedly more prototypical than the Y I also like the MM1 tie bars as they look far better than copperclad pieces. Marcway rail is good for me as it's only a short trip to pick it up which means I can get it at full length without postage cost or risk of bending in the post. Peco slide and plain chairs have been good the only challenge is finding a supplier that sells more than 2 packs at a time I am trying some C&L plain chairs at present as at least I was able to pick up bags of 500 at Telford last year, I find that they are more fragile as well as more expensive, so might go back to Peco I must re-visit this 3-way I found on the Templot forum which I suppose was a bit ambitious after only having built a straight B6 How do you deal with chairing the crossing as I did get some crossing chairs from Off the Rails and then realised that they are S7. It strikes me that I could end up using a whole load of Peco slide chairs which are the most difficult to get in bulk
  15. Nigel have you looked at the Class 124 six car set kit producted by Mike Hughes https://www.jandmhughesogauge.com/ Off to Bristol this morning so hoping to have a look at what Mike does in his line up, as last time I looked it was impressive I do remember those unit climbing out of Lime Street and yes with all power cars it did rattle the roof with a cracking rasp. The current TransPennine 185 units that pass through Hudds sound really good. The idling is good and even better going out West up the bank up T'hill. It's alost like they tuned the pipes to get a pleasant note
  16. I didn't look at the other ones on offer, but that looks to be the business 1:48-1:50 and all the different chassis types over the years. The only downside seems to be finding ones that are in stock and the price
  17. Only 1:50 and newer than your F8, but see what you think http://harrisonbrownmodels.co.uk/epages/7c893344-8581-4e43-966d-a100e5ca63ac.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/7c893344-8581-4e43-966d-a100e5ca63ac/Categories/Online_Store/53/60
  18. Eligor seem to be the best supplier of 1:43 scale wagons, though for this excercise they are too modern. Impex stock their range though it looks to cater for either collectors or marketing of the actual fleets to customers which means they have to be current models It's also a shame 1:50 is too far out as WSI and the likes do some fabulous rigs and even Nooteboom have a shop with scale product though at eye watering prices
  19. First vehicle was a 2a SWB and for the las 15 years a 110 CSW so know a bit about Landies which is why the 110 is lurking behind the Scania Breakfast is a new one on me, but guess it's something to do with the folk law about the Aussie's using the front grill when it was metal for an instant 'barbie'. Also the one about go explore in a Landie, come home in a Toyota
  20. Eligor do some good wagons and there are some UK fleets in the lineup. They do quite a few fire appliances though as you have found they are all European. Maybe a change of signwriting is needed, though not sure as they are the latest Scania and Renault models so not fitting with slam door stock I did have some other thoughts in that maybe they only show in the doors of the engine house so less obvious. Another thought was portray it as 'being built' as you might then have a visiting Landie and then plenty of options for construction vehicles. It seemed to take forever to build the fire station at the time. The leisure centre took ages as well back in the day I bought some Eligor models as I want my layout to portray a preserved depot with stock being delivered by low loader. The trailer is a 1:50 with a 1:43 tractor unit, but with a 20T brake van on not that apparent
  21. Yes any build thread is a valuable reference source for us all, as you never know when it might just be sitting your workbench. I especially like to see these builds of quality kits. Please carry on showing us your progress with is loco
  22. Templot skills as well Gordy, will have to look out for your work on here and maybe pick your brains next time I am down in Bris'l
  23. Doh I knew there was something else I was going down there for
  24. Yeah 503's, bring it on I might have to have a chat with Michael Hughes at Telford PS like the photos bring back so many memories of my teenage years
