  1. I'm interested in building a model of the Titfield thunderbolt in 7mm, and I believe the brake van was a Dia AA20, Connoisseur models make a kit for a Dia AA19. As GWR is not normally my area of interest could somebody please advise me on the differences (if any) between the two diagrams, is it a feasible conversion? Thanks JP
  2. To revive an old thread, I have just discovered the st Combs branch today whilst researching for a small terminus to build in 7mm, and what a jem it is. The question is are there any good books on the branch, I seem to be coming up with a blank with all the usual suspects like Oxford Press etc. Can anyone help? Regards JP
  3. Thank you for your helpful suggestions chaps.
  4. Although I've traditionaly been a NE modeller, I'm now feeling drawn towards the GER area and in reaserching possible locations I've come across Thaxted as a bit of a gem, and are now trying to see if I can come up with a working plan foe 7mm in the 11ft 6in senic area I have available. I have the Peter Paye Oxford Pub book and I am aware that intentio do a very nice kit for the engine shed. Does anyone know of any other good sources of information? I'm particural keen to know the distance from the cross over at the end passenger platform to the engine shed, it looks very close almost as if the engine would have to enter the shed to run round. Any help? Cheers
  5. Your quite right Boris Robson was the first, however he has been a driver for a couple of years now and when you said we have recently passed out our first driver I thought you where refering to Merrick. J.P.
  6. Not our first driver Boris, I think you may have forgot someone who you could upset. J.P.
  7. Hi Brian I'm currently building a Shapeways BAA & BBA, and was concerned as to how the grainy finish would look once paint was applied, I have spent a bit of time trying to smooth it off where it will be most obvious. Then I find that you have made one in double quick time and looking at your pictures it makes a nice model, I don't think I have much to worry about. I have built PRMRP ones in the past and both models have there merits, but I prefer the Shapeways one, the mesh deck is a nice touch and a rake of these would look very nice. Cheers J.P.
  8. Thanks for your views gents, I thought it would help me decide but I'm still unable to make a decision. J.P.
  9. Hi All I am aware of the issues with the Heljan MK1's but what about the GUV, I've searched for reviews but all I can find are for the MK1's. So opinions please, is the GUV a accurate model. Cheers J.P.
  10. Thinking of getting some of these, can anyone please advise on Class A or B, where all class A converted to class B, or did some class A remain. Looking for something to go in a short mixed goods train, late 1950's period. Cheers J.P.
  11. Hmmm, I wounder if it comes down to who you talk to, I contacted them by e-mail. J.P.
  12. I did not find them that helpful, when I enquired about a chimney for a J72, is was told that it would only be supplied as a replacement if I had already bought a kit. J.P.
  13. Ok Brian I'll bite, are you going to tell who is the manufacturer of the warwell is ? the bogies look superb. J.P.
  14. David As I'm working on my Christmas list, may i ask how much the FNA kit is? Cheers J.P.
  15. As I said, I've only done it on a BG, so before you attack that lovely coach you have just built, double check the Easy Build larger window frames fit ok, although I'm pretty confident they will. J.P.
  16. This is turning into a bit of a "if you show me yours I'll show you mine". The JLTRT Glazing still fits ok, however this is only a BG and dosen't have big windows with ventilators.
  17. I cannot vouch for the MMP etches, but the easy build etches are a almost perfect fit on JLTRT coaches. J.P.
  18. Hi Brian Can I ask how you fitted the bogies and set the height? There appears to be no bogie mount on the underframe on my BG. Cheers J.P.
  19. Hi Brian I have been admiring your MK1, and as I've almost finished a BG, I would like to ask you if I may, how you went about painting it? I have never painted a JLTRT kit before, do you need to use a primer? and what paint did you use? I normally use Pheonix, but after hearing good things about railmatch I wanted to try them out, however it seems the blue grey required is only now available in Acrylic, which I've never sprayed before. J.P.
  20. Spot on D605Eagle, only I don't think we are going to have to wait 400 years, spares are becoming harder to find now, even a class 08 cylinder head and their's still loads of them about, people are holding on to them. I had a quick look at the D8233 website, the standard of the work carried out looks first class, well done. J.P.
  21. Hi Chris, the pictures a demonstration of my frustration at computers, us old timers did'nt have a laptop in our cot, just a rubix cube. Out on the class 24 tomorrow due to 45212 being kaput. How's Eric coming on I was thinking of coming down the week after Monday to try and help get her finshed. J.P.

  22. The big question is how does Pip Dunn propose to scrap something that belongs to someone, just like a mk1 escort parked up in somebody’s front garden, rusting away, you cannot just enforce a scrappage, the owner no matter how delusional, probably has dreams of one day restoring his beloved to its former glory. In the early days of preservation there was many a loco left in Barry that is now steaming because the Firebox etc. was thought to be to far gone, Duke of Gloucester was always thought to be beyond restoration. As for diesels, unfortunately I can see a few of these being broken up in the future, there are a lot of them preserved, and repairs/overhauls are only going to get more expensive as spares dry up, a cracked cylinder head or turbo charger in with a major overhaul and new tyres, could easily push costs into five figures, and generally speaking diesels do not have much appeal to non enthusiasts, unlike steam who even the general public can still appreciate. J.P.
