  1. .....there is a good close up of D5107 on the 'Derby Sulzer' site....http://www.derbysulzers.com/5107blaydon.jpg Dave
  2. ...I might have considered going to look but was washing my hair....let me know once sanity resumes. Dave
  3. The Hornby version can only ever be a poor relation Ian....moulded plastic is no solution to wagons with a plethora of fine sections/rivet detail. Congratulations on more excellent work Dave
  4. ....perhaps if you squint a bit. Unfortunately, when modifying RTR it has to be all or nothing. Dave
  5. .....see my post on page 1 for a Ditton to Earles (Widnes empties) working with a class 45 via Northwich. The Widnes working via Lymm ran until 1986ish when the Lymm line closed....see my pic on page 1. Dewsbury via Sheffield lasted a little longer....the working switched to PCAs around 1990. Here is a June 1988 view of the Dewsbury empties https://www.flickr.com/photos/walnut_rede/5440988227/in/photostream/ Dave
  6. ....the Thirsk derailment was a trigger point for the revised suspension. The whole fleet was grounded for a while. Dave
  7. .... ....the basic Rolling Stock Library outline diagram should be available on the Barrowmore MRG site. Have a look at page 53. Remember it is always better to cross check dimensions shown on these diagrams where possible..... http://www.barrowmoremrg.co.uk/BRBDocuments/BRPOWagons1Issue.pdf I have a 1964 Eastern Region Freight Trains Load Book of the type issued to guards at this time. Special mention has been written into the spaces under class 4 trains of the Cliffe to Uddingston working of these wagons..."brake at each end, roller bearing, 32 light alloy wagons via Ferme Park, D15/6 loco (1550 HP class 3 loco)". Class 4 trains running at 55mph had to have a minimum 90% of the wagons fully braked....brake vans had to be fully fitted or piped & gauged only and must have a wheelbase of 15ft or more. I last worked a rake of these from Ditton (ex Widnes) back to Earles sdgs via Weaver jcn & Northwich in the mid eighties driving 45034 when secondmanning Dennis Morton of Buxton shed. 50 mph 'vacuum passenger' braking/brake rate selector position. Have a picture somewhere taken in Ditton yard....I'll look it out...picture found but it was of the engineers trip which took us to Ditton from Guide Bridge and doesn't show the cement tanks. The rake of Cemflos just happened to be stabled there and we volunteered to take them back to Earles....not a regular sight though via Northwich as they used to run via Lymm in the booked working. Here is one that I took at Chinley at a similar time https://www.flickr.com/photos/43564631@N08/4569699681/in/album-72157622730543368/ Dave
  8. .....I'd be gathering together/consulting numerous close up images of the wagons which I intended to model from the various wagon websites so that I could understand the detail differences better and group individual features. Wagon books often have just one or two images of individual wagon types and a number of books might be necessary to get enough views. I would also be googling PCAs in 4mm to see which modellers/groups have made the best job of upgrading the Lima model so far. Dave
  9. Mornin' all, Has anyone found a positive comment from John on this thread yet? Dave
  10. ...maybe it is time to compare the SLW model standards with some of the good European mainland ones and have a look at some of the prices charged over there. Dave
  11. ....not seen any yet but we're bound to get pics posted here. Dave
  12. ....I suspect that he won't be turning down any sales, even if it means hiring an extra pair of hands for a day or two. Dave
  13. ...ring Phil on 01780 470086 This is the web address for the new model http://sulzertype2.co.uk/page.php?p=home Dave
  14. ....maybe they had signs in the loos of the caravans asking for flushes not to be done in stations. Dave
  15. ....you are free to post anything you like John. My only interest is in the best model of a type 2. Dave
  16. Re post 518 ....your actual quote was "not visible on the prototype" when there are numerous images showing that they are. Why not just say that they are visible under certain lighting conditions? Dave
  17. Aft'noon all, These juxtaposed examples will help demonstrate the advance in body profile with the SLW model compared e.g. with the most recent contender by Bachmann The correct roof curving/beading over the cab front windows and roof profile on the SLW model contrasts with the too shallow curvature on the other model....throwing out the proportions of the bodyside, or the height of the bodyside on the Bachmann threw out the curvature/proportions of the roof/cab front The correct cab front window shapes & sizes on the SLW are considerably smaller than on the other model The unsightly joint on the cab front between body and chassis is absent on the SLW variant.... The angle of the cab front upper is correct on the SLW example but not on the other.... Battery box/underslung tank area and bodyside grilles...there is no mistaking the fidelity of the SLW model.... Disregard the amateurish start to repainting on the lower bogie, it does however offer a comparison between the two versions, The overthick tyre rims of the Ultrascale wheelsets stand out too on the lower image.... Dave Satisfied type 2 owner
  18. ....me thinks that you need to look at more prototype 24 radiator grills. Given the number of detail variations within even the hundred plus headcode disc fitted 24s it isn't easy to find any two identical locos.....the more you look at prototype images the more detail variations you'll find. The single most significant feature of this loco for me is the correct body profile inc. 'the face' with its correct size window apertures, roof curves & angled slope of front end because for those minded to model a specific set of individual details and create a very individual loco it is the best point to start from. Dave
  19. ....I'll be having the glazing changed in my green'un but the overall presence of the rest of the loco is so good that I just spend the time savouring it. Dave
  20. ....good luck with the order Brian...they are lovely models. Dave
