  3. I think it is quite common for different stations to be displayed at either end these days. I guess it is a question of when and where (like most things) and 'prototype for everything' type remarks. When I worked for Thameslink (1998-2005) there was only one time a train would have the destination at both ends of the train, on the return leg of a Luton-Sutton-Luton service, and only then because it wasn't changed at Luton when it was left there by the previous driver. Also of note from then was that 'Southern' 319s didn't have the 'north of London' destinations and often were left blank. All of this is, ofcourse, far from what is supposed to happen. My experience of recent Northern Rail trains suggests that some drivers/guards don't change them at all, with, for example, some Liverpool services displaying 'Southport' on the front.
  4. Eccles, in Greater Manchester, has three churches near the line side and it is in a cutting (along with the M602), one on the opposite side of the M602 (which was rebuilt after the railway was built), one near where Patricroft shed was and one in Eccles Town centre, where William Huskisson MP died (after being hit by 'Rocket' near Newton-Le-Willows) on the day the line opened in 1830. Urmston station has this, with a new ticket office between the road and the station and the old building turned into a pub, no footbridge either, passengers for Liverpool have to walk round the station on the public road to access the platform! Back to Eccles, and Wellington Road runs along the side of the M602 on top of a retaining wall with buildings on only one side and aswell as the church, has a petrol station, a patch of ground where a petrol station used to be and residential housing.
  5. Thank you both. Good luck with your project Beacon. I had forgoten about a couple of other units I did for my 'Scorton' layout (RIP), so here they are.... Unbranded FNW Gold Star livery (the idea being Northern had removed the First North Western branding) on a couple of 121s. I shudder to think how many stars would be needed for the full livery!
  6. I seem to remember an Intercity 158 somewhere which I think was on the old site thread (it won't load from the link in the first post for me), anyway that inspired some modelling from me based on XC keeping it's 158s a little bit longer. These units may appear on my new layout when I get to do it so if anyone knows of a place I can aquire some 'Northern' transfers it would be appreciated. Anyway, first up is my verion of what the Intercity livery might look like.... Virgin's first livery is next, in this case I don't have the lining and don't fancy trying to paint them either so you'll have to imagine a bit.... This third one is the better one IMO, Virgin's Pendelino/Voyager livery.....
