  1. Measure the resistance of the coils - power removed totally of course! That will tell you if they're cooked - plus the burning smell of course!
  2. More details here. https://www.tme.com/Document/cb545971aaf7e641179e4750a1704dc9/HFD2_en.pdf What voltage did you say the CDU put out? You do have a multimeter?
  3. A CDU cannot put out AC. But yes relays are usually DC, but you can have AC ones.
  4. OK, but your photo doesn't appear to show screws for the motor, so glued? The switches are on a chunk of timber, with 2 screws holding it secure and two further pairs of 2nd hand screws holding the switches to the block of wood.
  5. There is a drawing of an almost identical item in Model Railways 1972 January. It is described as a 'Drop Arm Water Crane B.R. (LMR)'. Only real difference is the cast plate with the operating instructions.
  6. Yes, but to 76:1 scale.
  7. But no one was ever going to build a 2-10-2T. If a 10 coupled loco was the answer to banking on Lickey, then the Midland Railway would have built at least one more 'Big Bertha', perhaps a pair, making a trio.
  8. Got him! https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-03-26/truck-driver-charged-after-almost-colliding-with-train/103634638
  9. Wow, I have about 10 cars that I was going to use to shut and cut - I'll keep them and make my fortune!
  10. I don't actually see anything wrong with the CAB! Playworn condition please see all pics half broken cab perfect for restoration project please see the pictures. But perhaps I was only looking at the chassis, which apparently has been snapped in half and half of it chucked in the bin! But maybe there is another listing that says that there is a restoration project for a 'choose your own cab' model?
  11. Serves them right for reusing a trading name - they should be more original!
  12. Just to point out something that may be not be obvious to you. Did you realise that suitable diodes are ultra cheap, so you are only talking about pennies potentially saved. You could fit diodes everywhere, for less than the cost of a burnt out point motor or latching relay!
  13. July 1980? It was a request for more info etc on the Swanage branch and to thank people who loaned you photographs and a request for names of the photographer(s), for your upcoming book on the topic.
  14. South Wales coal wagons? Who'd have thought they existed in any significant numbers!
  15. Yes I was aware, although I must admit that I know little about the differences between various Western region diesels. The class 25 reference, was a joke.
  16. Love the mixture of metric and US standard measurements and spelling!
  17. Across the motor terminals directly.
  18. Discussing coloured locos, try this page. 😱 https://www.steamlocomotive.com/types/colored/
  19. No need for a 2A power output for a CDU.
